NEWS - Clamoroso al Cibali! JJ Abrams cala il tris seriale su HBO: lo spin-off di "The Shining" di King, una serie tratta dai personaggi di "Justice League Dark" e un crime
J.J. Abrams is working on exciting new DC Comics series, which is heading to HBO Max! THR is reporting that the prolific producer, director, and writer has three new series heading to the streaming service, including “an untitled drama based on characters in the so-called Justice League Dark universe.” Some of the characters that are part of the Justice League Dark team include Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and John Constantine. The other two series are crime drama called Duster and a spinoff to The Shining, which will be called Overlook. All three of the series will be produced by Abrams, his wife and business partner Katie McGrath, and Bad Robot’s head of television Ben Stephenson. Bad Robot’s exec vp TV Rachel Rusch Rich will be a co-executive producer.
“What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J.and Katie,” HBO Max’s chief content officer Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic IP from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.”

Apple unveiled its first look at the tech company’s upcoming streaming services during a glitzy, star-studded press conference at the Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, California on Monday. The service will consist of two components: Apple TV Channels, which will bundle content from popular services such as HBO and Showtime; and Apple TV+, which will feature original content. The Apple TV services will be completely ad-free, with content available to be streamed on any device or downloaded, putting it in direct competition with Netflix. A-list actors and directors such as Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and Kumail Nanjiani, and even Big Bird were all on hand to dish on their respective projects in development with Apple TV+. The event culminated with Tim Cook bringing out queen Oprah herself to give a pep rally while teasing her own project, as attendees and those watching from around the world braced themselves for Apple to finally reveal the price point for this most ambitious endeavor. Were they trying to really sell the service before dropping a hefty monthly fee, or planning to surprise everyone by coming in below Netflix? Everyone waited to find out the answer. And then, Oprah left the stage … and the event ended. Without naming a price. So essentially, Apple revealed just about everything there is to know about Apple TV except for how much and when — other than an ambiguous “fall” timeline. People were understandably frustrated with this one, huge detail being omitted, and many took to Twitter to express their bewilderment.

NEWS - Fermi tutti!

The creators and executive producers of the TV show Lost have issued an apology to actress Evangeline Lilly, who said earlier in an interview that she was made to feel “cornered” on the show’s set about doing partially nude scenes.
Creators and executive producers J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse issued a joint statement apology for the alleged problems on the show, which ran on ABC from 2004-2010. “Our response to Evie’s comments in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologize for the experience she detailed while working on Lost,” the statement read. “We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.”
Lilly is currently featured in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp, and claimed in a recent podcast interview that she was “mortified and trembling” after filming a specific Lost scene. “In season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter,” Lilly said. “And I was mortified and I was trembling and when it finished, I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on do a very formidable, very strong scene thereafter.” She added: “In season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control and I failed to control it again. And so I then said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want—I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again,’ and I didn’t.”Lilly previously said she flayed the skin off both of her forearms during a stunt that went wrong several years ago on the set of Lost.  Lilly also made it clear that the accident was no accident, accusing an unnamed stunt coordinator — who she described as “misogynistic” — of punishing her for defying his wish to have a stuntwoman do the stunt. It involved rolling off a thick tree branch high above the ground and hanging on for dear life, though there was no risk of falling because she was safely harnessed to the branch.

NEWS - Shonda Rhimes lascia ABC per Netflix? Ecco perché i grandi showrunner mollano i network generalisti

Articolo tratto da "Vulture"
For networks and their affiliated studios, finding a way to hold on to top-tier talent used to be a relatively simple proposition. Big producer threatening to jump to another company? Back up a Brinks truck. And if money alone wasn’t the only concern, offer the talent more “creative freedom,” usually by guaranteeing a certain number of “straight-to-series” projects so her ideas won’t have to go through the usual (and often demoralizing) pilot process. As important as both those factors remain in talent negotiations, Shonda Rhimes’s just-announced decision to sign with Netflix and leave ABC/Disney points to a bleak new reality for old-school broadcasters trying to hold on to big names. For some Hollywood creatives, particularly those at the peak of their careers, offers of big bucks and promises of creative autonomy aren’t enough to overcome the view that network television is now the least attractive medium in which to work. Rhimes didn’t leave just leave ABC. She left network TV. As financially lucrative as broadcast remains, the trade-offs seem increasingly not worth it for showrunners such as Rhimes, who chafe at its many downsides. Instead of making anywhere from 8 to 13 episodes per year, broadcast producers often have to churn out two dozen episodes each season. Content restrictions mandated by advertisers and the government give creators less storytelling freedom. Shorter and shorter episodic lengths, the result of networks trying to squeeze in even more commercials, mean stories often need to be rushed. Talking to The Wall Street Journal about her decision, Rhimes strongly hinted that these fundamental differences between making a show for a broadcaster and for a streamer such as Netflix drove her to depart. “I’m thrilled by the idea of a world where I’m not caught in the necessary grind of network television,” she told the newspaper. Keep in mind, Rhimes already had about as much creative freedom as any producer currently working in linear TV today enjoys. She had basically stopped taking most (if not all) notes from her bosses at the network and studio. Even after her drama The Catch had clearly failed to connect with audiences, ABC ordered a second season of the show and gave Rhimes time to overhaul the premise. (It still didn’t work.) Still, even if her superstar status understandably forced ABC to give Rhimes more room to make shows the way she wanted to, she was still mostly making shows by network TV rules.
By contrast, streaming networks in general offer producers a completely different creative playground. Netflix lets Masters of None’s Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang imagine a comedy in which every episode feels like a new, mini–independent film. Amazon gives Jill Soloway the freedom to tell a story like that at the heart of Transparent, an idea that wouldn’t make it past the pitch stage at a broadcaster. And the all-episodes-at-once model pioneered by Netflix gives creators the opportunity to engage audiences in immersive viewing experiences designed to be digested over the course of a few days rather than via the relatively glacial pace of a weekly release. Linear networks such as HBO and FX obviously offer some of the same freedoms as a Netflix, and even broadcasters have pushed their own boundaries to allow for creative innovation (think ABC’s own American Crime). A streamer like Netflix, however, offers all of these innovations, in addition to a global reach unmatched by linear networks and a deep, deep pocketbook with which to fund creators’ visions. For a few years now, the stark differences between the network and Netflix models of television have made it more difficult for broadcasters to attract top names. Networks struggle like never before to find interesting and well-known actors in their shows each pilot season because so many stars now want to work on streaming shows. As one exec told Vulture last year, “The talent wants to go to the fancy-schmancy new kids on the block.” (And if a streaming series isn’t an option, a premium or basic cable show often comes before broadcast these days.) The Rhimes deal shows how streaming fever may now be spreading beyond younger, fresher talent to creators who are already successful veterans in the network world. While this is clearly a problem for broadcasters, particularly a struggling network such as ABC, it’s also important to not assume it spells doom for linear TV. There are still plenty of talented producers willing — even eager — to work in a medium where even the least successful series reaches far more viewers than most cable shows and the likely audience for streaming shows. Plus, networks have proven time and again they’re able to adapt to new threats. Basic cable was supposed to spell the end for broadcast; it didn’t. HBO’s late-1990s golden age (Sex and the City, The Sopranos) was seen by some as a sign great writers would never again work for one of the Big Four, but then some relative unknowns named J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, Marc Cherry, and, yes, Shonda Rhimes created Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s Anatomy, all of which premiered in the same 2004–05 season.
Things are far tougher for broadcasters than they were even ten years ago, of course. Younger viewers in particular have nearly given up watching scripted shows via linear television. Advertisers are moving their money elsewhere. But plenty of folks still do have a nightly TV habit, and like the Big Three automakers who’ve managed to (mostly) stay afloat despite decades of foreign threats, broadcasters have proven themselves exceedingly resourceful over the years. Pundits have predicted the death of network TV forever, but so far, network TV has always found a way to survive.

(Antonio Dipollina, 05.10.2016)

NEWS - Una promessa o una minaccia? "Westworld" programmata per durare 5 anni...nel futuro!

News tratta da "Uproxx"
After a series of delays attributed largely to the production’s complex nature, HBO’s forthcoming television adaptation of the 1973 film Westworld is almost here. It’s one of the fall TV season’s most promising new shows, and if showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy can deliver, then it might be quite good. Maybe even Game of Thrones-good — an accomplishment HBO wouldn’t mind at all. And if Nolan and Joy’s recently revealed long-term plan for Westworld is any indication, that’s exactly what HBO wants.
Yes, Westworld‘s initial run consists of only 10 episodes, yet it seems plans have been drawn for at least five seasons. And as actor James Marsden explained to Entertainment Weekly, that’s just how the producers “operate”:
“[The delay] wasn’t about getting the first 10 done, it was about mapping out what the next five or six years are going to be… We wanted everything in line so that when the very last episode airs and we have our show finale, five or seven years down the line, we knew how it was going to end the first season — that’s the way Jonah and [executive producer J.J. Abrams] operate. They’re making sure all the ducks are in the row.”
That’s not to say that if HBO picks up Westworld for additional seasons, the show will simply “have a story that repeated itself” every year. As Nolan put it:
“We didn’t want the Fantasy Island version of this [where new guests arrive at the park every season]. We wanted a big story. We wanted the story of the origin of a new species and how that would play out in its complexity”
Until the series premiere Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO, just imagine how maniacally happy Law & Order creator Dick Wolf is right now. The Westworld: Fantasy Island and Fantasy Island: Westworld spin-offs have potential.

Abrams, in arrivo su Premium Stories prossimamente.

Insomma, sì, faccio a mio modo psicoanalisi».

Abrams e dallo stesso King (in Italia su Fox, luned'i ore 21.10).
"Person of Interest", l'avanguardia delle mancate certezze

NEW YORK (AP) — "Star Trek" may be the next frontier for William Shatner — again. Shatner, who played the original James T. Kirk, says he's meeting soon with Roberto Orci, who's directing "Star Trek 3," to discuss reprising his Kirk in the rebooted franchise.
"I had a talk with him the other day," says Shatner. "So there's talk — simply talk — about the next movie." Shatner has said J.J. Abrams, who produced and directed the 2009 "Star Trek" film and 2013 sequel, recently called to say Orci had an idea about how Shatner might be in the next film of the new franchise, which stars Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk. Shatner says he would do the movie if it's a meaningful part, "a role that had something to do with the turning of the plot." Still, the 83-year-old actor says he's not sure how they'd bring him back now — 20 years after his character was killed off in "Star Trek: The Next Generation". "That was so long ago. How do they bring me back physically like this? I don't know," he says.
Shatner isn't waiting around to find out. He stars in and produces the home renovation series "The Shatner Project," which premieres on the DIY Network on Thursday (10 p.m. EDT). The six-episode series follows Shatner and his wife, Elizabeth, as they revamp the Southern California home he bought 50 years ago.
He says allowing cameras into their home was a "terrible" experience, but he's happy with the result.
Shatner is also designing a motorcycle, a clothing line, a new kind of comic book, continuing his priceline.com ads and his "Brown Bag Wine Tasting" webisodes — and has three films due out.
Ask him about retirement and he says, "What does retiring mean? It means you want to step back from what you're doing and do something else that's more interesting." With a smile, Shatner adds, "I'm in the middle of such a fertile, febrile fantasy that anybody would wish for what I'm doing."

PICCOLO GRANDE SCHERMO - Clamoroso all'Enterprise!

The original Captain Kirk has confirmed that he might be making a return to the franchise in the upcoming Star Trek film set to be directed by Roberto Orci. Appearing at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con Saturday, William Shatner explained that he got a call from J.J. Abrams regarding the project. “He said, ‘I’m calling, Bill, because the director of Star Trek, the next movie, has had an idea where you might be involved. So I’m calling to find out whether you’d be interested,'” Shatner recalled Abrams saying. “I said, well, you know, if it’s meaningful.”
Shatner explained that the notoriously secretive Abrams told him to keep mum, but word got out on the Internet. “So the news is out that they have an idea that they want Leonard and myself—they might want Leonard Nimoy and myself,” Shatner.
Badass Digest reported last week that “the script for Star Trek 3 includes a scene that reteams Shatner and Nimoy onscreen as Kirk and Spock for the first time in canon since 1991’s Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.” Following that report, however, Shatner pleaded ignorance.

Abrams (stica!). E così Hulu lancia la sfida a Netflix e Amazon...

News tratta da "Entertainment Weekly"
One of Stephen King’s most acclaimed novels in recent years is coming to Hulu as a limited series thanks to super-producer J.J. Abrams.
Hulu has greenlit an adaptation of King’s bestseller 11/22/63 from Warner Bros. TV and Abrams’ Bad Robot productions. The 2011 novel follows a high school English teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and discovers the past can become very tricky to change. Abrams, King, writer Bridget Carpenter (The Red Road, Friday Night Lights) and Bryan Burk are all executive producers.
“If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it,” King said in a statement.
The project will be designed as a stand-alone story based on King’s novel. But if the show is successful, we’re told the opportunity exists to do additional seasons based on the same format.
Abrams released this note: “I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school. The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream.”
From Carpenter: “Stephen King is one of my literary heroes. Creating this miniseries from his extraordinary book is a dream come true. My dad, a lifelong Stephen King fanatic, still cannot believe it.”
For Hulu, the order marks the streaming service’s most significant original series order yet as the company looks to compete with streaming kingpin Netflix along with Amazon. No release date has been determined.
