L'ossessione Usa per l'impeachment, da "Scandal" a "Homeland"
"Chiamiamola ossessione narrativa. Chiamiamola aspirazione. Chiamiamola non so come, ma nelle serie americane che si occupano di potere, di presidenza degli Stati Uniti, di deriva autoritaria c'è un grande tema attorno cui si aggrovigliano tutte le vicende e questo tema si chiama impeachment, il procedimento d'accusa contro il Presidente, sospettato di aver violato la legge nell'esercizio delle proprie funzioni. In questi giorni circola una curiosa fotografia ufficiale scattata al termine dei funerali di Barbara Bush: la foto racchiude gli ultimi 30 anni della Casa Bianca: Bush senior (1989-1993), Bill Clinton (1993-2000), George W. Bush (2001-2008), Barack Obama (2009-2017). C'era anche l'attuale first lady, Melania Trump. Manca solo lui, l'ossessione narrativa. In realtà, l'impeachment contro Trump è al momento una prospettiva molto remota: non solo per ciò che è accaduto finora nella questione Trump-Russia-Comey, ma anche per come funziona la procedura negli Stati Uniti. Tuttavia, questo assillo è presente in Scandal, in The Good Fight (lo spin-off di The Good Wife), in The Designated Survivor e soprattutto nella settima stagione di Homeland che è appena iniziata su Fox. Qui, l'ossessione narrativa si concentra su una vicenda tutta interna alla presidenza degli Stati Uniti. Dopo un tentato omicidio ai danni della presidente eletta Elizabeth Keane (Elisabeth Marvel), duecento membri dell'intelligence americana vengono fatti arrestare, fra cui Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). La sua protetta, la protagonista Carrie (Claire Danes), è costretta a lasciare la Casa Bianca per impegnarsi a liberare gli altri membri dell'intelligence. Intanto la figura presidenziale è sempre più caratterizzata da comportamenti che ricordano quella vera. Che potere hanno le serie televisive? Il loro soft power ha una decisa forza di convincimento? Maggie Q is starring in a new campaign for PETA in order to urge holiday shoppers to avoid buying fur products during the busy shopping season. The 38-year-old actress, who stars on the ABC series Designated Survivor, is pictured holding a bloodied and skinned “rabbit” for the anti-fur ad.“Here’s the Rest of Your Fur Trim,” the ad proclaims. “Eyewitness exposés of fur farms in China, the world’s largest exporter of fur, have revealed that animals are confined to barren wire cages—exposed to all weather extremes—and that many go insane from the constant confinement and frantically pace and circle [in] their cages,” Maggie said in a statement. “I want people to make the connection that the choice to wear fur is directly contributing to mass suffering.” Maggie joins a list of celebs, including Taraji P. Henson, Olivia Munn, who have starred in ads for PETA.

Kiefer Sutherland would have us believe that he’s a perfectionist. As he told Jimmy Kimmel on Monday’s episode of the ABC late-night series, the star of beloved ‘80s films like Young Guns and The Lost Boys does not like watching the finished product of his movies and television shows, because once he wraps production, there’s simply nothing he can do about it anymore. So, instead of just sitting back and enjoying Emilio Estevez’s perfect Old West hairstyle in that delightful Billy the Kid bar scene, Sutherland simply steers clear of his work so he doesn’t wonder if perhaps he could have twirled his gun a little better or somehow looked cooler leaning back in his chair.
His reasoning, the star of the new ABC series Designated Survivor told Kimmel, dates back to the 1986 film Stand By Me. He claims he was “absolutely horrified” by his performance and thought that his career was over, and so once the film was a huge hit, he decided it was just wise not to watch anything he’s in. Shockingly, that includes 24, the show that changed his name to Jack Bauer for the rest of eternity. “I’ve managed to make 216 episodes of 24 and I don’t think I’ve ever watched a single one of them,” he claimed. Is he just being modest and yanking our cranks? He has to be, there’s no way he hasn’t enjoyed being one of TV’s all-time greatest badasses.
He also says that he hasn’t watched the Designated Survivor pilot, which airs Wednesday night on ABC. In it, he plays the titular “designated survivor,” who becomes president of the United States after an explosion at the State of the Union address kills the president and every member of his Cabinet. Of course, it makes sense he wouldn’t watch, because I assume the first episode is just Sutherland’s character saying, “Holy sh*t I’m the president” for an hour.
