It’s been ages since Steven Spielberg dabbled in horror — unless you found The Post’s depiction of a president trying to silence the press scary — so here’s some good news: The creator of Jaws is working on a revolutionary horror series. The twist: You can only watch it at night. Some explanation: Variety reports that the legendary filmmaker is at work on a “super scary story,” as he put it, for Quibi, the forthcoming mobile-focused streaming service being co-launched by his frequent business partner Jeffrey Katzenberg. Like Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, it will be one story divided into chapters, of which Spielberg, Katzenberg says, has already written five or six. One thing that’s exciting is this: Spielberg hasn’t actually written a screenplay — or at least received a screenplay credit — since the original Poltergeist, back in 1982. He mostly tasks others to write the script, such as Tony Kushner, his writer on Munich, Lincoln, and their upcoming West Side Story remake. Indeed, the only time he’s been a writer-director, handling both by himself, is 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The other exciting thing is this: Spielberg has requested that they put in place technology that only allows viewers to watch it at night. Phones already know where you are at any given moment, so it follows that phones could also know if it’s light or dark out. Only when it’s the latter will the show work. As per Variety:

A clock will appear on phones, ticking down until sun sets in wherever that user is, until the sun sets. Then the clock starts ticking again to when the sun comes back up — and the show will disappear until the next night.

Quibi, which is set to launch in April of next year, is being touted as yet another streaming giant angling for your time and money. Part of their lure will be shows that are, Variety reports, of the House of Cards/Handmaid’s Tale variety, as well as shorter “content.” They’re aiming to drop 125 pieces of content a week, or 7,000 in the first year. Already tasked to produce work for them are Guillermo del Toro, Steven Soderbergh, Sam Raimi, Anna Kendrick, and Laurence Fishburne, and that’s on top of the guy who made 1941.

Apple unveiled its first look at the tech company’s upcoming streaming services during a glitzy, star-studded press conference at the Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, California on Monday. The service will consist of two components: Apple TV Channels, which will bundle content from popular services such as HBO and Showtime; and Apple TV+, which will feature original content. The Apple TV services will be completely ad-free, with content available to be streamed on any device or downloaded, putting it in direct competition with Netflix. A-list actors and directors such as Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and Kumail Nanjiani, and even Big Bird were all on hand to dish on their respective projects in development with Apple TV+. The event culminated with Tim Cook bringing out queen Oprah herself to give a pep rally while teasing her own project, as attendees and those watching from around the world braced themselves for Apple to finally reveal the price point for this most ambitious endeavor. Were they trying to really sell the service before dropping a hefty monthly fee, or planning to surprise everyone by coming in below Netflix? Everyone waited to find out the answer. And then, Oprah left the stage … and the event ended. Without naming a price. So essentially, Apple revealed just about everything there is to know about Apple TV except for how much and when — other than an ambiguous “fall” timeline. People were understandably frustrated with this one, huge detail being omitted, and many took to Twitter to express their bewilderment.

Apple has lifted the veil on its first scripted series efforts: a drama set in the world of a network morning show and a revival of anthology “Amazing Stories” shepherded by Steven Spielberg and Bryan Fuller. The straight-to-series orders for both projects are the first fruits of the effort to rev up Apple Video’s entry into the premium TV arena. The tech giant recruited former Sony Pictures TV presidents Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg in June to head the production push, which aims to target a global audience. One big question surrounding Apple’s video effort is the distribution plan. It’s unclear if Apple will make the shows available by iTunes or another platform, and whether access will be based on a subscription or advertising-based model.

The untitled Aniston-Witherspoon drama hails from Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res studio, Aniston’s Echo Films and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner. The starry project was highly sought after by a number of outlets and landed a two-season order (10 episodes per season) from Apple. Media Res, Aniston and Witherspoon are the principle owners of the show.

The series is based on an idea from Ellenberg and will draw background material from CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter’s 2013 book “Top of the Morning,” which recounted the recent rivalry between NBC’s “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Jay Carson (“House of Cards”) is writing the pilot and will serve as showrunner. Stelter is serving as a consultant.

The project marks an impressive debut for Media Res, the venture launched in June by former HBO executive Ellenberg in partnership with Vancouver-based financier Bron Studios.

“Amazing Stories” hails from Universal Television and Amblin Television. Spielberg, Fuller, Amblin’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and “Bones” creator Hart Hanson are exec producers. Spielberg spearheaded an earlier edition of “Amazing Stories” that ran from 1985 to 1987 on NBC.

The Apple iteration aims to enlist notable filmmakers and creative talent for each episode.

Una ragazzina piuttosto male in arnese - capelli rapati a zero, un numero tatuato sull'avambraccio - viene accolta in casa da un ragazzino e da due compagnucci che assieme a lui passano i pomeriggi a giocare quella mania d'altri tempi che fu "Dungeons e Dragons". Ha addosso solo una maglietta arancione - una divisa, non è chiaro di quale istituzione - quindi le offrono una tuta. Lei fa la mossa di cambiarsi, i tre in preda al terrore indicano il bagno e pretendono pure la porta chiusa. Siamo nel territorio di Stephen King, geniale osservatore del momento preadolescenziale in cui i maschi preferiscono stare tra loro, le ragazze sono d'impiccio. Dura poco, lo racconta bene anche Wes Anderson in "Moonrise Kingdom - Una fuga d'amore". Susy e Sam, entrambi dodicenni anche se lei ha gli occhi truccati come Françoise Hardy e lui il cappello di Davy Crockett, scappano insieme. Lui sa che deve darle il primo bacio, si fa così, e pure con la lingua. Lo fa, e poi sputa. In "Inside Out" di Pete Docter, è l'allarme rosso che scatta nella testa: "Aiuto, una ragazza!" (per l'antologia delle scene non basta lo spazio della rubrica, usiamo l'ultima digressione per ricordare che nel romanzo "Mr Mercedes" King raccontava un'auto assassina lanciata su una folla di poveracci in fila per un lavoro). Gli ultimi - per ora - a inoltrarsi nel territorio si chiamano Matt e Ross Duffer, con la serie "Stranger Things" (gli otto episodi della prima stagione sono su Netflix). Per via di "Stand By Me", il regno di Stephen King è presidiato in egual misura da Steven Spielberg, che in proprio contribuisce con "E. T.". Tra i due sì è solidamente inserito J. J. Abrams con "Super 8", prodotto appunto da Spielberg che ne approfitta per dar la sua benedizione (o passare le consegne). Vuol dire che la prima bicicletta con le ruotine entra in scena cinque minuti dopo i titoli di testa (assieme alla prima madre divorziata). E' la serie di cui si chiacchiera, segno che i nostalgici degli anni Ottanta sono una legione, tra spettatori e critici (va aggiunta agli entusiasti una manciata di millennial che si stupiscono di ogni cosa e reagiscono di conseguenza). Gente che a sentire "Demogorgon" prova la stessa reazione di Marcel Proust davanti a una madeleine (è il Principe dei Demoni nel gioco "Dungeons e Dragons", attendiamo un bell'editoriale sul tema "i nostri mostri erano migliori dei vostri Pokémon"). Figuriamoci che succede a vedere un telefono da muro di bakelite giallina, con il filo attorcigliato e il disco con le lettere, oltre che con i numeri. I ragazzini giocatori erano in realtà quattro, altrettanti nerd maltrattati dai bulli - allora essere nerd non era figo come pare oggi che abbiamo visto "The Big Bang Theory". Uno di loro scompare tornando a casa dopo un partitone. Siamo in una cittadina dell'Indiana, L'anno è il 1983, nel prologo (lo chiamiamo così perché i titoli di testa somigliano a copertine di Stephen King e gli episodi sembrano intitolati come capitoli) uno scienziato passa un momentaccio. Nel laboratorio le luci si accendono e si spengono. Lo sceriffo dorme in canottiera sul divano (segno sicuro di un'altra famiglia che non ha funzionato benissimo). E sì, certo, di nascosto dagli adulti si parla con il walkie talkie. Per farsi un giro negli anni Ottanta, "Stranger Things" è una perfetta macchina del tempo, c'è pure Wynona Ryder pettinata come l'operaia Meryl Streep in "Silkwood". In una sezione particolare del Dipartimento della giustizia, l’Unità pre crimine, i precog, tre giovani veggenti che vivono in una sorta di piscina amniotica e le cui premonizioni di omicidio non hanno mai sbagliato, riescono a vedere ogni traccia di reato da immagini che svelano il tempo, il luogo e altri dettagli e ch e rimandano su video. Se il film era prevalentemente svolto in chiave di thriller fantascientifico, nella serie c’è una continua oscillazione tra una visione distopica orwelliana — una società interamente dominata da un potere onniveggente, una nuova arena pubblica definita dalla visibilità istantanea del piccolo schermo — e buoni tratti di autoironia (Fox prende in giro la serie e se stessa con una immaginaria puntata de I Simpson). Bryan Cranston is going “All the Way” with HBO Films. The studio has acquired the rights to the Tony Award-winning play starring Cranston as President Lyndon Johnson, a role that also won him a Tony Award for lead actor. Robert Schenkkan will adapt his play for HBO. A behind-the-scenes look at President Johnson’s tumultuous first year in office, “All the Way” follows him as he takes the oath following President Kennedy’s assassination, copes with the escalation of the Vietnam War and launches his landmark civil rights bill. Cranston, who made his Broadway debut in “All the Way,” won not only the Tony Award, but also the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theater World Awards. He’s also won three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards for “Breaking Bad.” He’s nominated for the show’s final season.
“All the Way” will be produced for HBO by Amblin Television, Tale Told Productions and Moon Shot Entertainment, with Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank & Justin Falvey, Robert Schenkkan and Bryan Cranston executive producing, and James Degus co-executive producing.

Cop shows, doctor shows, courtroom-based dramas–for years, Halle Berry had heard pitches for just about every iteration of what’s already on TV. Nothing seemed invigorating enough for her to briefly abandon a still-thriving film career. Then, in the fall of 2013, a spec script called Extant started a feeding frenzy in Hollywood, with just about every major TV player–ABC, FX, Netflix, you name it–trying to buy the sci-fi thriller. As soon as CBS prevailed, CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tasser knew exactly who she wanted to play Molly Woods, an astronaut who returns from a year-long solo mission in space with a baby (possibly alien in origin) in her belly.

“The minute I started to read it, I couldn’t put it down,” says Berry, who spoke to EW in an exclusive interview for this week’s cover story on Extant (airing July 9 on CBS). “I thought, ‘Wow. This is different.’ It’s innovative. Molly is a strong female character, which I really love to play. Molly is a complicated woman with a complicated family.  Who is a woman who goes away to space for a year and leaves her husband, first of all? Who is a woman who comes back pregnant and tries to handle it somehow on her own? That just felt like a complication that I wanted to be a part of.”
Extant has all the elements of an exciting new sci-fi series: spaceships, futuristic toys, aliens–even Steven Spielberg, who is an executive producer through his company Amblin TV, which is also responsible for CBS’ summer hit Under the Dome. “I remember walking on the stage and someone going, ‘Oh, Steven is here by the way,’” says Goran Visnjic, who plays Molly’s husband John. “I was like, ‘Really? Is my hair okay?’”

"There was a time when summer was dead for television — a creativity wasteland filled with reruns and daytime schlock. Indeed, quality TV during the summer months is a recent phenomenon and now that it's officially summer, it's a phenomenon we are ready to enjoy. Given this golden age, networks are upping the ante year-round. These are the programs your friends will be (or at least should be) talking about this summer. Queue up the DVR, get your streaming schedule ready or just settle in at the actual times when these shows are actually on TV. However you choose to watch, happy viewing.

1. "Almost Royal" (BBC America)
  
Saturdays at 10 p.m. (ET) 
Fan of British humor? Then you should be watching BBC America's first original comedy-reality show, it's brilliance is in keeping with the mockumentary tradition of The Office. This time 'round, the subjects are two spoiled, aristocratic siblings who are touring the United States and attempting to understand American culture. The show's stars are Ed Gamble and Amy Hoggart, both young comedians to keep an eye on. The premiere was this past Saturday, so catch up before next week.

2. "Tyrant" (FX)

Premieres: Tuesday, June 24, at 10 p.m. (ET)
This 10-part drama series, brought to you by Homeland developers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, follows protagonist Bassam Al Fayeed, a renowned pediatrician based in L.A., as he returns with his wife and two teenage children to the fictional Arab country Baladi after a 20-year self-imposed exile. The twist? His father used to be the dictator. Baladi is still embroiled in political turmoil, and Al Fayeed and his family are drawn back into the conflict. Anything from the minds of the Homeland team is sure to make a few waves.


3. "Girl Meets World" (Disney)

Premieres: Friday, June 27, at 9:45 p.m. (ET); moves to 8:30 p.m. (ET) on Friday, July 11
Feeling really nostalgic? Disney is rebooting Boy Meets World, to the tune of Girl Meets World. Cory and Topanga are now married with kids, and the show centers on their 12-year-old daughter Riley as she presumably tries to find her Cory/Topanga equivalent. Though Mr. Feeny will not be reprising his role as a series regular (Cory is Riley's history teacher, after all), a large number of Boy Meets World alums are confirmed to reappear, including William Daniels (Mr. Feeny), Lee Norris ("Minkus"), Betsy Randle (Amy Matthews), William Russ (Alan Matthews) and Rider Strong (Shawn). We don't care how corny it looks, we're watching.
 

4. "The Leftovers" (HBO)
Premieres: Sunday, June 29, at 10 p.m. (ET)

Two percent of the world's population suddenly vanishes without explanation. Fast-forward three years. So begins The Leftovers, created by Damon Lindelof (cocreator of Lost) and Tom Perotta (who wrote the novel from which this was adapted). The show explores the apocalyptic, not from by irreparable destruction or zombies, but through the grief of inexplicable loss and collective uncertainty in a small New York suburban town. It stars Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler.


5. "Extant" (CBS)

Premieres: Wednesday, July 9, at 9 p.m. (ET)
There has been a lot of buzz around this series, executive produced by none other than Steven Spielberg and starring Halle Berry as an astronaut who has returned home after a year in space. Here's where things get weird: in her health exam back on Earth, Berry's character learns that she's pregnant, though this is "impossible," given she was on a solo mission.
Wait, it gets weirder: the son she has with her husband is actually a machine … who appears to know a thing or two about the potential extinction of humanity. Extant has positioned itself as a show with a lot of questions. The question on our end is how well it will answer them.


6. "Welcome To Sweden" (NBC)

Premieres: Thursday, July 10, at 9 p.m. (ET)
Can you ever have too much Amy Poehler? Did you even know there was more Poehler to have? Poehler has a brother, and her brother has a new comedy coming to NBC (which NBC has already renewed for a second season). More Poehlers. Greg Poehler stars in the largely autobiographical show about how, after 12 years of practicing law in New York City, he moves to Sweden to follow his girlfriend. Greg knows nothing about Swedish culture or the language, and hijinks ensue.
Along with appearances by Amy, Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza and Gene Simmons are all slated to make cameos.


7. "The Strain" (FX)

Premieres: Sunday, July 13, at 10 p.m. (ET)
Looking for a new show to watch while cowering behind your couch? Then your hunt can stop with Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) and Carlton Cuse's (Lost) new vampire series. An outbreak of vampirism (à la zombie-ism in World War Z) has struck New York City, and one CDC doctor is at the helm of trying to find a cure. Don't roll your eyes: This is not a show about nice or sparkly vampires. These are not vampires that will carry you on their back and call you a "spider monkey." They are terrifying monsters who kill anyone in sight.


8. "Manhattan" (WGN)

Premieres: Sunday, July 27, at 10 p.m. (ET)
There is a lot of potential for WGN’s Manhattan, executive produced by Sam Shaw, a former writer for Showtime's Masters of Sex. The series is set in 1943, in a secluded New Mexico town harboring the scientists working on the most top-secret project of all: the first atomic bomb. Charting the relationships between the scientists and their families as they wrestle with the implications of their work, Manhattan is definitely worth checking out.


9. "The Quest" (ABC)

Premieres: Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. (ET)
Someone at ABC let an executive producer from The Lord of the Rings create a reality television show, and it is absolutely everything that you would want from someone with those credentials. Premise? LARPing: coming to a TV near you. "Normal" adults dressed like they're at a Renaissance Faire battle an army of orcs (played by actors) to defend their ice kingdom and tiny castles on television. This could be one of the most entertaining reality shows in a long while. Who doesn't want to watch a bunch of actual adults fight elaborately styled orc-actors in the service of an imaginary monarchy?
 

10. "Knick" (Cinemax)

Premieres: Friday, Aug. 8, at 10 p.m. (ET)
The Knick is hands-down one of the most talked-about debuts of the summer, reason No. 1 being that it briefly brought Steven Soderbergh out of retirement to direct the 10-episode season. The show takes place in turn-of-the-century New York, and stars Clive Owen as a surgeon who is determined to push every boundary to save lives. In the recently released trailer, it appears that means the surgeon's methodology isn't always precisely legal or ethical. Earlier teasers flashed the tagline "Surgery wasn't always science." There's a distinctly creepy vibe to the show (a little American Horror Story), so it will be interesting to see where the series goes, particularly given that its creators, Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, have been behind far more family-friendly films like Big Miracle and Raising Helen.


11. "Legends" (TNT)

Premieres: Wednesday, Aug. 20, 9 p.m. (ET)
Legends follows FBI agent Martin Odum (Sean Bean), who operates deep undercover but can and does consistently change identities. The problem becomes (in a Bourne-esque twist) that Odum begins to doubt who he actually is. The show is based off the novel by Robert Littell and has executive producers from Homeland and 24, with a premiere directed by David Semel (Homeland, Hannibal, American Horror Story). If Legends proves to be as good as the concept is intriguing, then TNT may find itself contending for awards with networks like HBO, Showtime, AMC and FX next year.  Are there any new shows you're excited about that aren't included in this list? President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's oldest daughter Malia could be setting her sights on Hollywood. Malia Obama, who turns 16 on July 4, was spotted this past week working as a production assistant for a day in Los Angeles on the set of Halle Berry‘s upcoming sci-fi series “Extant,” an individual with knowledge of the production told TheWrap.
“She helped with computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take,” the insider said.

The insider also said Malia laughed with delight saying, “My first time. This is a big deal.”

CBS has not yet not responded to TheWrap's requests for comment. A spokesperson for the First Lady also has not responded. In the series — which hails from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios — Berry will play an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life.  Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.
In addition to the “Extant” role, Berry and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, have entered into a two-year, first look production deal with CBS Television Studios.

Malia attends the exclusive Sidwell Friends private school in Washington, DC, but classes let out earlier this month. She joined her parents on Friday in Rancho Mirage, where President Obama took in a round of golf, according to the Press Enterprise newspaper. The President was in Southern California to deliver the commencement address at the University of California Irvine on Saturday.

NEWS - Prism of Interest, quando una serie tv anticipa la realtà e lo scandalo... 
(ANSA) - ROMA - Bufera sull'amministrazione Obama, con l'Fbi che spia cellulari e web. Fonti ufficiali assicurano che il programma 'Prism' e' rivolto solo a cittadini non americani e che vivono fuori dagli Usa. E il governo giustifica il 'Patriot Act' come uno strumento fondamentale per difendere la nazione. Il presunto scandalo su 'Prism', la fonte principale delle informazioni che le agenzie di intelligence forniscono nel rapporto che ogni mattina viene consegnato al presidente Usa, era un qualche modo gia' stato previsto da un telefilm. 'Person of Interest' di J.J. Abrams (l'ideatore di Lost), e' in onda in America dal 2011 e in Italia e' trasmesso su Premium Crime (ogni sabato in prima serata con la seconda stagione inedita). Racconta di una societa' prossima ventura in cui ciascun cittadino puo' venir spiato sulla base del puro sospetto di poter compiere atti criminosi. Nello slang delle forze dell'ordine 'person of interest' e' un soggetto sotto indagine, ma senza prove sufficienti ad arrestarlo. Nella serie tv la lotta al crimine si arriva a combattere anche su Twitter e Facebook, controllando tutto e tutti. Il telefilm in America ha sfiorato i 16 milioni di spettatori. Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson, gia' protagonista di Lost), e' un eccentrico milionario esperto di informatica. Dopo l'attentato alle Torri Gemelle di New York ha messo a punto un sofisticato software che permette di prevenire crimini non ancora accaduti. La macchina pero' non offre tutte le risposte: individua solamente il codice di previdenza sociale del sospettato. Nessun altro dettaglio, nessuna prova di colpevolezza. Privati cittadini diventano cosi' 'sorvegliati speciali', controllati attraverso telecamere, pc, cellulari, carte di credito. Ma questo e' illegale e nessuna agenzia federale puo' avallare il progetto. Finch ingaggia Reese (James Caviezel, La passione di Cristo) un ex agente della Cia creduto morto, per cercare di fermare i futuri criminali. Il tema della prevenzione del crimine era gia' stato toccato nel 2002 nel film di Steven Spielberg 'Minority Report'. 'Person of Interest', pero', e' meno fantascientifico e, come ha dichiarato Michael Emerson, la serie e' scientificamente basata su fatti reali. A riprova dell'attualita' degli argomenti trattati dalla serie, nel 15/o episodio appare - in immagini d'archivio - il presidente degli Stati Uniti Barack Obama.

PICCOLO GRANDE SCHERMO - Anteprima JJ Abrams: al cinema si lancia sulle tracce dei nazisti (oltre ai sequel di "Star Trek" e Cloverfield"). In tv visioni poco rassicuranti con "Revolution" e "Person of Interest"

J.J. Abrams, l'ideatore di "Lost", è diviso tra passato e futuro.

E' notizia di queste ore che colui che i critici hanno designato quale "l'unico vero erede di Steven Spielberg" sia al lavoro su un film ambientato durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale: in "Wunderkind", atteso nelle sale nel 2013, due cacciatori di taglie uniscono le forze per far giustizia sui crimini di guerra perpetrati dai nazisti, gettandosi sulle tracce dei colpevoli. Ancora nessun nome per il cast.

Altro titolo in flashback firmato da Abrams, seppur nuovo di zecca, è il prossimo capitolo cinematografico di "Star Trek" (in uscita nel 2013) - sottotitolato "Into Darkness" - che segue il successo di "Il futuro ha inizio" che ha riacceso l'entusiasmo per la fanta-saga dell'Enterprise nel 2009.

E mentre al cinema Abrams firmerà sul finire del 2013 anche il sequel del terrorifico low-budget "Cloverfield" dopo il primo capitolo del 2008, sul piccolo schermo sembra cavalcare a briglie sciolte su un futuro prossimo venturo non proprio rassicurante.

Se "Person of Interest" (in onda su Premium Crime con la seconda stagione inedita dal 28 novembre in prima serata) racconta di una società controllata telematicamente per prevenire i crimini, "Revolution" (in programma su Steel a gennaio 2013) vede le macchine e i dispositivi elettronici ribellarsi all'uomo e gettare la popolazione mondiale in un clima pre-rivoluzione industriale. Che mondo sarebbe se fossimo controllati 24 ore su 24 dalle telecamere? E senza mezzi di trasporto e internet? Le visioni di Abrams su una democrazia in pericolo (e troppo legata al mondo virtuale) fanno quasi più paura di quelle di "Lost"...

NEWS - Frecce(ro) al nostro arco! Da stasera il tris "Rome"+"Band of Brothers"+"Boardwalk Empire" su Rai4
(AGI) - Roma, 4 lug. - Peplum, kolossal bellico, epopea gangster: nella sua eta' dell'oro Hollywood ha celebrato la grandezza dell'America rievocando l'ascesa e la caduta di Roma antica, esaltando la superiorita' di mezzi e d'ideali dimostrata nel secondo conflitto mondiale, raccontando il lato oscuro di una nazione costruita da immigranti e avventurieri. Inaugurata dal canale via cavo HBO, la golden age anni duemila della tv americana passa anche attraverso la rivisitazione di questi tre generi classici e popolari. Dal 5 luglio, ogni giovedi' a partire dalle 21.10 su Rai4, l'eccezionale appuntamento e' con tre pluripremiate produzioni HBO: tre diverse declinazioni di dramma epico-storico ideate o prodotte da altrettanti maestri del grande schermo. Si comincia, in prima serata, con due episodi di Rome (2005-2007), sontuosa coproduzione con BBC e Rai Fiction ambientata sullo sfondo storico della dittatura di Giulio Cesare e delle successive guerre civili e firmata, tra gli altri, da John Milius. A seguire, Band of Brothers (2001) filiazione televisiva del film di Steven Spielberg Salvate il soldato Ryan (1998), non a caso prodotta dallo stesso re Mida di Hollywood assieme alla star Tom Hanks. Chiude il programma Boardwalk Empire (2010-in corso), saga gangsteristica ambientata nella Atlantic City degli anni venti, ideata da Terence Winter - uno degli sceneggiatori di punta dei Sopranos - e coprodotta dal maestro del genere Martin Scorsese.

Stracult e Stracotti - …ovvero la serie che questa settimana va su e quella che inevitabilmente va giù. Parola di Stargirl!

Come abbiamo già detto la scorsa settimana, in questi mesi molte serie sono giunte al termine, alcune salutandoci definitivamente, altre prendendosi un break per lasciar spazio agli show “estivi”.
Stracult&Stracotti indossa una veste speciale, per decretare oggi la “top 3”, o meglio la “flop 3” dei telefilm più deludenti di quest’anno.

La medaglia d’oro in questa classifica al negativo va appesa al collo di Steven Spielberg, produttore e ideatore di Terra Nova, il nuovo show sci fi targato Fox che nelle menti dei piani alti del network avrebbe dovuto colmare il vuoto lasciato da Lost. Attorno a questo prodotto c’erano fortissime aspettative, un budget da capogiro e una campagna marketing massiccia, certi di un forte successo in molti paesi, fra cui il nostro, la Fox aveva deciso di trasmetterlo in contemporanea con gli USA. Ma è bastata una manciata di episodi per vedere gli ascolti dello show precipitare nel baratro. Lo spunto iniziale della trama non risulta abbastanza forte, i personaggi sono artefatti e stucchevoli: dialoghi che girano a vuoto e un senso generale di noia e fastidio. Del sense of wonder che i dinosauri avrebbero dovuto suscitare, non c’è la minima traccia… e questo la dice molto lunga sulla qualità finale dello show. Bocciato da pubblico e critica, a noi non resta che dire “provaci ancora, Steven”.

Secondo posto al teen drama di Josh Schwartz Gossip Girl, in onda il prossimo autunno con la sesta, estenuante stagione. Trama sconclusionata, surreale, inverosimile a livelli inauditi, lo show sui ragazzi dell’Upper East Side ha toccato davvero l’apice in quanto ad assurdità quest’anno, rasentando in più di un’occasione il fondo del barile. Le innumerevoli situazioni ripetitive e paradossali della quinta stagione hanno trascinato la serie in fondo a un baratro, senza lasciare speranze di salvezza. Eppure, quei “masochisti” della CW hanno deciso di concedergli un’altra chance, vuoi per condizioni contrattuali troppo complicate, vuoi per scelte di marketing a noi sconosciute. Ritroveremo quindi Blair e Serena fra qualche mese, per fortuna per uno spicciolo di episodi appena: a loro infatti, toccherà lo stesso destino di One Tree Hill, concluso quest’anno dopo 9 stagioni nel corso di una midseason di 13 episodi.

Terzo posto per Ringer, lo show che ha segnato l’attesissimo ritorno si Sarah Michelle “Buffy” Gellar sul piccolo schermo. Un ritorno col “botto” ma non nel comune senso che tutti diamo a questo termine, anzi: flop clamoroso e senza precedenti per l’ex cacciatrice di vampiri, caduta vittima di uno pseudo crime per nulla convincente né coinvolgente. Caratterizzato da una regia a dir poco debole, una sceneggiatura contorta e nella maggior parte dei casi dai risvolti fin troppo superficiali, Ringer si è trascinato con fatica, nel corso di 22 interminabili episodi, verso una season finale ancor più confusa e inverosimile di tutta l’intera stagione. Stracotta come poche, per fortuna non rinnovata.

NEWS - Siamo tutti spiati! Da stasera "Person of Interest" (free su Italia 2 il pilot)

Nello slang delle forze dell’ordine person of interest è un soggetto sotto indagine ma senza prove sufficienti ad arrestarlo. Immaginate ora che ogni singolo cittadino venga considerato person of interest. Immaginate che una macchina, sulla base del puro sospetto, possa prevenire attentati terroristici e crimini violenti. E che la lotta al crimine si possa combattere anche su Twitter e Facebook, controllando tutto e tutti.Sareste disposti a rinunciare alla libertà personale per “un mondo migliore”? “Person of Interest”, serie evento ideata da J.J. Abrams e da Jonathan Nolan, approda in anteprima assoluta su Premium Crime (Mediaset Premium) dal 27 aprile in prima serata. L’eco della tragedia dell’11 settembre 2001, contaminata da visioni futuristiche orwelliane, contraddistingue una delle serie più intriganti della stagione. 

Mediaset per l’occasione trasmette la puntata pilota di "Person of interest" anche in chiaro sul canale Mediaset Italia 2 in contemporanea a Premium Crime il 27 aprile (ore 21.15).

Su Premium Crime, oltre al pilot, il 27 aprile andrà in onda anche la seconda puntata, e dalla settimana successiva il resto della serie (due puntate ogni venerdì).

La serie in America ha sfiorato i 16 milioni di spettatori e la CBS ha già programmato la seconda stagione.

Il tema della prevenzione del crimine era già stato toccato nel 2002 nel film di Steven Spielberg Minority Report. “Person of Interest”, però, è meno fantascientifico e, come ha dichiarato Michael Emerson al Comic Com di luglio a San Diego, «la serie è scientificamente basata su fatti reali perché tutte queste tecnologie esistono e sono sul mercato». Il tema della prevenzione del crimine “ad ogni costo” è stato rilanciato negli USA dall’ossessione per la sicurezza post 11 settembre 2001. A riprova dell’attualità degli argomenti trattati dalla serie, nel 15esimo episodio appare - in immagini d’archivio - il Presidente degli Stati Uniti Barack Obama.

Su “Person of Interest” J.J. Abrams, ha dichiarato: «Con la tecnologia non solo puoi essere rintracciato, ma le tue mosse possono essere anticipate. La cosa che mi piace della serie è che è molto celebrale ma non impenetrabile. È buona televisione».

Il critico televisivo di "Entertainment Weekly", Ken Tucker, ha scritto: «Già dall’episodio-pilota, 'Person of Interest' è un cult (…) La serie viaggia nella zona grigia di una morale spesso ambigua e ambivalente, una scommessa non facile per attrarre l'audience a tutti i costi, ma di indubbio valore qualitativo ».

NEWS - Ultima ora, Spielberg c'ha finalmente azzeccato: "Smash" rinnovato. La serie giudicata da "Variety" l'ago della bilancia "per capire se si è usciti dalla crisi seriale d'idee" ha fatto aumentare l'audience di NBC al lunedì del 106%.
"Smash", la serie firmata da Steven Spielberg in onda su Mya (Mediaset Premium) ogni domenica, è stata rinnovata per la seconda stagione. Una notizia dell'ultima ora che assume una valenza speciale, se si considera quanto scritto preventivamente dall'influente "Variety" sul destino del serial, "vera e propria cartina di tornasole per capire se la serialità americana sia realmente uscita dalla crisi".
Mentre sul set si brinda e si attende l'entrata in scena di Uma Thurman lungo 5 episodi (in onda su Mya dal 15 aprile), nei panni della terza aspirante Marylin Monroe nel musical al centro delle vicende, la serie deve però registrare l'arrivederci dell'ideatrice Theresa Rebeck, la quale tornerà a dedicarsi al teatro (il personaggio di Julia Houston nel telefilm, interpretato da Debra Messing, sarebbe autobiografico).
L'uscita della Rebeck ha spinto gli addetti ai lavori a chiedersi se il vero motivo della dipartita non sia il taglio del serial pensato in un primo momento per la pay-tv americana, giudicato da qualche critico fin troppo raffinato nel suo raccontare il backstage di Broadway, lasciando in secondo piano le vicissitudini tra i personaggi. Nonostante la critica di essere talvolta troppo "alto", il serial ha permesso a NBC di aumentare l'audience del 106% nella giornata del lunedì (giorno di trasmissione americana), sfiorando gli 8 milioni di spettatori.
Nel frattempo nel cast potrebbe entrare un altro nome di richiamo: Grace Gummer, figlia d'arte di Meryl Streep, prenderà parte ad un episodio in cui darà vita alla figlia della produttrice Eileen Rand, interpretata da Anjelica Houston. La puntata andrà in onda su Mya domenica 1 aprile. Secondo alcune voci Gummer, reduce dall'esordio seriale in "Gigantic", ha buone chance per entrare a far parte del cast fisso del telefilm.
Sempre a proposito della NBC e di rinnovi, si registra nel contempo la conferma per una seconda stagione del telefilm-rivelazione "Grimm", detective-story basata sulle favole dei fratelli Grimm (ma non solo). La serie esordirà su Syfy (Steel - Mediaset Premium) il 2 luglio in prima serata.

Grace Gummer, figlia d'arte di Meryl Streep, prenderà parte ad un episodio di "Smash" in cui darà vita alla figlia della produttrice Eileen Rand, interpretata da Anjelica Houston. La puntata andrà in onda su Mya domenica 1 aprile. Secondo alcune voci Gummer, reduce dall'esordio seriale in "Gigantic", ha buone chance per entrare a far parte del cast fisso del telefilm firmato da Steven Spielberg sulla messa in scena di un musical sulla vita della Monroe. La seconda serie di Terra Nova pare proprio che non ci sara', gli ascolti pure alti non sono bastati alla serie prodotta da Steven Spielberg. ''Cattive notizie'', scrive il protagonista Jason O'Mara su twitter, ''#TerraNova e' stato cancellato per decisione della Fox - Stiamo provando a trovare un altro network per realizzarlo. Stand by''.
