On her thoughts about beauty pageants today (Priyanka won Miss World 2000): “I feel like in an evolved world, where we are today, as long as a woman understands that that’s not [her] only option. And then chooses to do it. Who is anyone to judge her? But when women are made to feel like your only option to succeed is to be OK with being objectified or being made to feel stupid…then it’s wrong.”

On her original dream job: “I wanted to be an engineer. Looking back now, I should have seen the signs that girl, you can’t pass a reflective surface without looking at yourself. You’re not going to be an engineer.”

On why the world needs to see beauty differently: “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And everyone doesn’t look the same way, so the world needs to be trained to see beauty differently.”

Priyanka Chopra had something to say about Meghan Markle‘s Vanity Fair cover story, which was released earlier this month and featured so many questions about boyfriend Prince Harry. If you don’t know, Priyanka and Meghan have been friends for years, and Priyanka wanted to stick up for her pal as more than “just a plus one.” “I don’t [know] if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion. I mean, she’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I’m just saying. I mean, she’s an actor, she’s an activist, she’s a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more,” Priyanka told ET. “It’s just a little sexist. Look, I’m a feminist and I love boys, okay… The only thing I’m saying is that there needs to be a certain sense of equality where a woman is not just a plus one, you know. It’s nice to be your own identity too.” If you didn’t know, this isn’t the first time Priyanka has stood by Meghan‘s side!

On the pressure of being one of the few Indian actors well-known in the U.S: “After Quantico was picked up, I was like, ‘Oh crap, if I don’t do well, people will be like, ‘Oh my God, Indian actors can’t do lead parts.’ I felt that pressure.”

On what people don’t understand about being Indian American: “I don’t think a lot of people understand what Indians are. And that’s our fault, a little. We tend to forget our roots a bit. As kids [we think], If I’m too Indian, I’ll be put in a box, and people will think of me as different. They’ll think I’m weird, because I eat Indian food or my name is difficult to pronounce. That girl in school used to call me ‘curry.’ You’re scared of those things. We’re afraid of letting people see the glory of who we are.”

On the upswing of violence toward Indian Americans and the idea of the quiet ‘model minority’: “Staying in your lane — I heard that so much. I want to make my lane! And yes, it’s an extremely scary time. Maybe I, being on the platform that I am, can say this louder than the kid who has to get on the subway and go to school: You don’t need to be afraid of who you are. I don’t want any kid to feel the way I felt in school. I was afraid of my bully. It made me feel like I’m less—in my skin, in my identity, in my culture.”

We're sitting in Chopra's Upper East Side living room in New York City, where she's currently shooting the second season of Quantico—a fastpaced spy confection in which she stars as sexy, unstoppable CIA agent Alex Parrish. It's a miserable January afternoon outside, but Chez Chopra is a cozy, serene oasis of cream and pale-blue silk in the midst of which sits Chopra herself, all dark hair and liquid eyes and ripped Levi's, with her tiny new puppy, Diana, dozing on her lap.

On her love life: "I'm not someone who looks for love. I don't believe in making it happen. My life has been shaped by so many serendipitous moments so far, I feel like, Why screw with a good thing?"

On her upcoming project, Baywatch: "I loved Baywatch so much growing up. It was the quintessential American Dream. All those beautiful people in bathing suits, running slo-mo on the beach in Malibu—amazing!"

On her start in Bollywood—without any previous acting experience: "Coming from academics, like an idiot, I was like, Oh, it's just pretty people. You've got to wear lovely outfits and say a few lines. How hard can this be?" Boy, was I surprised. I just kind of went on set and fell and dusted myself off, and learned, and then fell again and figured it out."

And casting needs to happen based on the best person for the job, not the Indian girl or the black girl. The girl next door is no longer blonde-haired and blue-eyed, nor is she brown-haired and brown-eyed. She’s not one person. And our entertainment needs to be a representation of that.”
On fighting for feminism: “We’ve been told for eons that a woman should be a certain way, dress a certain way, behave a certain way. That’s what the fight of feminism is for: we’re asking for the opportunity to make our own choices without being judged—a freedom that men have enjoyed for centuries.”
On how she chooses roles: “I always look for parts that make an impact. It’s a great time to be a female actor right now, especially if you stand your ground. I won’t settle.”

On diversity: “I think diversity is the need of the hour. Look at the world around us. You can’t say the girl next door is a certain type anymore. And entertainment should be a reflection of society.”
On Bollywood: “We are not a miniature Hollywood. We are the Indian film industry, one of the most prolific producers in the world…We are artists, we are people, we know our jobs. You can put me in front of a camera anywhere in the world and I’ll hit my mark and say my lines and give the director what he wants. I can break out into song and dance as well. I’m kick-ass at that too. That makes me a triple threat, not a stereotype.”

Even before the premiere of Spectre in November, rumors were swirling about who might be the next person to play 007 — or one of the spy’s many love interests. One of the names that’s been bandied about is Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, but in a new interview with Complex for the magazine’s latest cover story, she revealed that she has no interest in being considered for a role as a Bond girl.
“I get that all the time,” she told Complex. “But f— that — I wanna be Bond.”
In the wide-ranging interview, Chopra also said that she’s excited for her part in the upcoming Baywatch movie, adding that her role as the bad guy was originally written for a man.
Chopra stars as the icy Victoria Leeds in Baywatch (out May 19, 2017) alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, and earlier this year, Chopra spoke to EW about her villainous ambitions on the Oscars red carpet. “I wanted to play a bad guy for a really long time,” she said at the time. “And I’m doing that in Baywatch, so I’m excited.”

There’s little that’s flashy about ABC. It lacks an Empire-sized hit. Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder recently returned to series-low ratings. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to be a ratings disappointment compared to the CW’s superior superhero series. But of the Big Four networks, ABC is quietly the most consistent.
Modern Family, while not Outstanding Comedy Series-worthy, isn’t a bad show, and Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, The Middle, and The Goldbergs continue to impress week after week. On the drama side, Quantico is a bonafide hit; Agent Carter has greatly improved in its second season; and your aunt probably still watches Castle. That’s a solid group of shows, but ABC ranks last in the 18-to-49 demographic, which is one of the reasons why the network’s frustrated entertainment president, Paul Lee, resigned today.

Mr. Lee’s departure was orchestrated by Ben Sherwood, chairman of the Disney-ABC Television Group, who became Mr. Lee’s boss early last year. Mr. Sherwood, who disagreed with Mr. Lee over programming choices and future strategy, has used ABC’s soft standing in the overall ratings race to make a case inside Disney for a management shake-up at the network. This departure is a big deal for two reasons. One, Lee is being replaced by Channing Dungey, the first black president of a major broadcast network. She helped launch Scandal and Once Upon a Time, two of ABC’s biggest hits.

Two, Lee emphasized diversity (Quantico, How to Get Away with Murder, Fresh Off the Boat, and Black-ish all premiered under his watch), wasn’t quick to pull the trigger on dramas with lower-than-expected ratings (like Agent Carter), and was willing to make on-the-fly adjustments, as he did (for the better) with The Muppets. In addition to being an advocate for those shows, Lee also backed “serialized dramas like Scandal and American Crime,” according to the New York Times, while the hands-on Sherwood “wanted ABC to focus more on CBS-style procedural crime series like N.C.I.S.” That’s worrisome.
It’s historically important that Dungey is the new president of ABC Entertainment, and lucky for her, Lee didn’t leave the cupboards bare. There are a lot of quality shows on ABC already — now it’s up to Dungey to find the one big hit her predecessor couldn’t. Hopefully it’s not N.C.I.S.: Orlando.

The star of the ABC procedural would be the latest in a torrent of casting decisions. Paramount’s big-screen remake of the ’90s TV drama last week added Kelly Rohrbach as C.J. Parker, the character originally played by Pamela Anderson. Alexandra Daddario reunited with San Andreas costar Johnson when she dove in last November. Information on the project is under wraps, but the plot reportedly centers around an elite squad of lifeguards, led by Johnson, who must team up with a former Olympian and hothead (Efron) to protect their bay; Chopra reportedly would play the villain. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) will direct. Quantico marks a U.S. breakout performance for Chopra, the first South Asian woman to headline a network series; the 33-year-old is one of Bollywood’s premier stars.

On getting her first break and ‘never looking back’: “I’m a complete geek and I believe that the geeks will take over the world one day. I wanted to be an engineer and build planes, and now I fly in them all the time. I was 17 when I became Miss India and movie offers started to come my way. My dad and I had a big chat about it. He said, ‘You know you have this amazing opportunity, so give yourself a timeline.’ I gave myself two years.
