(ANSA) - LOS ANGELES - C'e' chi usa il "metodo" per entrare nella parte. Idris Elba e' andato oltre. L'attore inglese di Prometeus, Thor e Star Trek, nonchè di Luther e The Wire, si e' allenato per diventare un kickboxer professionista, peso massimo, davanti alle telecamere del programma 'Idris Elba: fighter', la cui realizzazione e' stata annunciata nell'ambito del festival della televisione di Edimburgo, in corso di svolgimento in Scozia. Niente copione, niente recitazione, le telecamere DMax, canale 52 del gruppo Discovery Italia dalla primavera del 2017, e' stata filmata nel corso di uno spazio temporale di un anno e sara' composta da tre puntate da sessanta minuti, che racconteranno il percorso dell'attore nel mondo del pugilato professionale, le riprese mostreranno i veri allenamenti e i veri combattimenti dell'attore e atleta, sudore, sangue e fatica compresi. Allenato da pugili professionisti Elba, 44 anni a settembre, non era comunque nuovo alla disciplina. A vent'anni infatti, per qualche tempo, si era allenato a scopo ricreativo ma non aveva mai partecipato a gare. "Eppure e' una aspirazione che ho da molto tempo - dice l'attore che della serie e' anche produttore - salire su un ring per mettermi alla prova e' una di quelle esperienze che volevo fare. Ho cambiato completamente il mio stile di vita per partecipare a questo progetto. E' stato faticoso e impegnativo ma sono orgoglioso del percorso fatto e del risultato". Gli spettatori avranno la possibilità di vedere e conoscere Idris Elba come uomo e non come attore, in un esperimento che mostrerà al pubblico ciò che gli dà grinta, le sue aspirazioni di vita e le sfide che vuole affrontare e vincere.

On constantly working: “…It’s unhealthy to have that much going on. [laughs] I don’t want to sound ungrateful or anything, but I sleep less, I’m constantly thinking, I’m constantly multitasking, and I really don’t know what the effects are going to be when I’m older. I don’t ever stop. Not because I’m greedy or anything, but I’m always creating, debating with the part of my brain that is dormant. Wondering how I can move in and create a bit more space and take a bit more time. But it’s almost like the more I achieve, the more capacity I have to achieve. I do worry sometimes about whether I’m going to burn out. Not burn myself out, but burn my art out, with audiences going, ‘Ah, yeah, I’ve seen enough now, thanks very much.’”
On DJ’ing: “Anyway, what happened was, once I got The Wire, my life changed. I couldn’t DJ as much and I couldn’t take it seriously because my career as an actor was just getting to a place where I was finally making it in America. I wanted to be on American TV so much. I didn’t park DJ’ing; I just sort of ended up becoming more of a studio guy. I had a bit more money and I could buy every little piece of equipment and drum machine that had just come out—I’ve got quite a collection now— and I continued to collect music. Then about five years ago, my career blossomed, but I really missed being out on the road, DJ’ing. So I started picking up gigs here and there, and what occurred to me really quickly was that I was going to water down my passion for DJ’ing, because the type of gigs I was getting were celebrity DJ work, and that just didn’t sit right. So I made a decision about five years ago to really do it properly, to do it at that level I had never done it, but take it seriously and not ride the coattails of being an actor. It took a while because I had to take my time to introduce myself into that world: doing remixes, being taken seriously.”

Damian Lewis is reportedly one of the favorites to succeed Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond, at least according to UK bookies.It has been reported that the 44-year-old Homeland actor’s price has been dropped way down from outsider odds of 25/1 to being a near-favorite with odds of 3/1. Other actors that have great odds right now are Idris Elba with 5/2, Tom Hardy with 4/1, Henry Cavill with 5/1, and Michael Fassbender with 7/1. “This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 [$312] on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig as the world’s most famous spy,” a William Hill spokesperson told THR.

(ANSA) - LONDRA - Pierce Brosnan rilancia l'idea del primo James Bond nero. L'ex 007 in una intervista a Radio Times ha dichiarato che vedrebbe bene nei panni dell'agente britannico l'attore inglese Idris Elba ("Luther", "The Wire"), gia' interprete di Nelson Mandela in 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' e del Capitano Janek in 'Prometheus' di Ridley Scott. Da qualche tempo si parla della possibile candidatura dell'artista venuto dal quartiere londinese di Hackney, che cosi' andrebbe a sostituire Daniel Craig, che ha piu' volte manifestato il desiderio di abbandonare il ruolo. Il nome di Elba come possibile nuovo Bond era emerso anche da una email del vice presidente della Sony Pictures Entertainment fatta trapelare dopo il cyber-attacco nei confronti della multinazionale. Perfino un sondaggio di YouGov dello scorso dicembre lo aveva indicato fra i favoriti dal pubblico americano per la parte.

The 42-year-old actor just revealed that he is focusing on music right now and is brushing off all of those James Bond rumors.
“It’s really just a rumor—and it’s not even my rumor!” Idris told Bloomberg Business.
“I appreciate you saying that I’d be a good James Bond, but Daniel Craig is doing a great job with it right now,” he added. 
”I love working with music, making people dance.”
“I mostly taught myself to DJ, but I did used to lift the speaker boxes for my uncle when he would do weddings. He was the first to really turn me on to it,” Idris said.

There would be no better Bond than Idris Elba.

At least, that's the sentiment of Amy Pascal, the head of Sony's film division, according to emails that were released after the massive hack that eventually led to the cancellation of assassination buddy comedy The Interview. The message in question here is a simple one: "Idris should be the next bond." Pascal sent it to Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, in January, according to the Daily Beast. While some of Pascal's other email leaks have been relatively embarrassing, this one has the significance of being absolutely right. While Daniel Craig is starring in the iconic spy franchise's upcoming installment, called Spectre, he's only under contract for one more Bond movie after that (it would be the 25th of the series). Craig doesn't seem married to the role, voicing his interest in other movies and telling Rolling Stone in 2012, "I've been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it." Elba — who you might recognize as Stringer Bell from The Wire, John Luther from Luther or that one god who stands in a gilded gazebo for most of Thor — definitely seems game. Asked about whether he would play Bond during a Reddit AMA, he responded,  "Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely."

He's got support from others in the business too. Jamie Foxx told the Daily Beast, ""I ran into Idris and I said, 'You know you're the motherfuckin' James Bond, right?'"

Only time will tell. Pascal may very well be on her way out at Sony thanks to the leaks and the company's handling of The Interview disaster, and who knows what other executives have in mind for the cash cow franchise. But if there is any faith to be had in Hollywood, Elba will get his shot.

HBO is going to a dark place with Guillermo del Toro. The premium cable network has optioned Corinne May Botz’s Nutshell Studies, a Hitchcockian drama about a 1950s small-town housewife who becomes obsessed with solving brutal crimes. Del Toro will serve as an executive producer as well as director on the project, with novelist Sara Gran on board to write and co-executive produce. Joining the duo is del Toro's manager Gary Unger, who is attached as a non-writing executive producer. Botz, who published the book in 2004, will consult. Gran writes for TNT’s Southland and is poised to write and co-EP an adaptation of her female detective novel series, Claire Dewitt, for John Wells and Warner Horizon. For his part, del Toro has been developing a potential Hulk live-action series for ABC. On the big screen, the Oscar-nominated writer-director, best known for such films as Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, is prepping the sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim, starring Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman. He has said of the film: "It's a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Da ''Downton Abbey'' a ''Modern Family'', da ''Homeland'' a ''Luther'' a ''Game of Thrones'', i Golden Globe hanno premiato la grande qualita'. Un'edizione, quella che riguarda i riconoscimenti ai prodotti televisivi, caratterizzata dalla ''british invasion'': tre fra i premi piu' importanti sono andati ad attori o serie inglesi. E tra i premiati numerose serie tv in onda o prossime al debutto sui canali Sky in esclusiva per l'Italia ma anche su Rete4 (Downton Abbey).
Ma da segnalare che tra i vincitori anche le due serie preferite dal presidente Usa: Barack Obama aveva infatti fatto sapere recentemente di seguire insieme a tutta la famiglia Modern Family, quando e' invece solo o insieme a sua moglie Michelle, preferisce guardare qualcosa di piu' dark, come Homeland. Quest'ultima in particolare e' in arrivo dal 6 febbraio 2012 in prima visione su FOX (canale 111 di Sky) ed e' una delle serie piu' attese della stagione.
- HOMELAND: 2 Golden Globes: Miglior Serie Drammatica e Miglior Attrice in una Serie Drammatica a Claire Danes. Basata su Hatufim, serie tv drammatica israeliana sui prigionieri di guerra e con l'aspetto umano e di approfondimento psicologico dei personaggi in primo piano, Homeland racconta di Nicholas Brody, un sergente dei marines che e' rimasto prigioniero in Iraq per otto anni, viene liberato da una squadra speciale e, al ritorno negli Stati Uniti, viene accolto da eroe nazionale.
- MODERN FAMILY: la terza stagione arrivera' in prima visione su FOX ad aprile 2012, ottiene il premio Miglior Serie Comedy o Musical, dopo aver vinto anche l'Emmy nella stessa categoria.
- DOWNTON ABBEY: e' la migliore miniserie tv per la giuria della Hollywood Foreign Press Association, serie capolavoro del piccolo schermo, le cui prime quattro puntate sono andare in
onda in Italia a dicembre su Rete4. Evento televisivo dell'anno in Gran Bretagna e in Usa, definito dalla stampa 'un affresco sontuoso' (the Guardian), la serie di cui e' gia' prevista la
terza stagione ha un pedigree eccellente: scritta e creata da Julian Fellowes, l'attore e scrittore premio Oscar per la sceneggiatura di Gosford Park, diretta dal pluripremiato Brian
Percival.

Una menzione speciale per i due premi riservati agli attori non protagonisti. Il riconoscimento femminile e andato a Jessica Lange, migliore non protagonista in una miniserie, AMERICAN HORROR STORY - in onda su FOX (canale 111 di Sky) ogni martedi' alle 22.45. E quello maschile a Peter Dinklage, miglior attore non protagonista per GAME OF THRONES (Il Trono di Spade), rivoluzionario fantasy prodotto da HBO che ha debuttato in esclusiva su Sky Cinema lo scorso novembre e ritornera' con l'attesa seconda stagione a maggio 2012.
E sale sul palco anche Idris Elba: a lui il premio Miglior Attore in una Mini Serie o film tv, LUTHER, il poliziesco targato BBC la cui seconda stagione si e' appena conclusa su FoxCrime (canale 117 di Sky).
Matt Le Blanc, a sorpresa, si e' aggiudicato il globo d'oro come migliore protagonista di una serie comica, EPISODES, premio, per l'altro sesso, andato a Laura Dern, per Enlightened.
