NEWS - Tutti i segreti del ritorno di "Will and Grace", compresa la richiesta di Debra Messing di rendere Grace una "femminista"
News tratta da "Vulture"
Ahead of the forthcoming Will & Grace revival, out this week, Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally joined co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan in conversation at the inaugural Tribeca TV Festival on Saturday night to talk about what it was like to come back and how their characters have evolved. “The only thing that I asked for was that Grace be a feminist,” said Messing. But other characters — *cough* Karen *cough* — won’t be as woke. When Mullally was asked if she wanted to change anything about her character, she answered simply: “No.”
For many of the actors, getting back into character took some time. McCormack and Messing have kept in touch since the show ended in 2006, so that helped. “We’ve maintained a sort of ongoing conversation that I think if we hadn’t this would have been a harder sandbox to jump back into,” McCormack said. “It’s been 11 years, and I think that I was a little tentative,” said Messing. “Eventually by the third episode I just sort of relaxed, and I was like, Okay, she’s back.” Hayes felt the same about returning to Jack. “There was so much response to the election video, and there’s so much now more than ever,” said Hayes. “But, you know, you don’t think about it when you go into work … You can only do the job you know how to do, and then it’s not up to you.” Describing the vibe on set, McCormack said, “We’re 11 years older, but on set we’re 11 years old. We are four idiotic children.” “Really naughty,” Messing added. Ahead: eight other things we learned about the reboot at the Tribeca TV panel.
Karen is friends with Donald and Melania Trump. “She’s down at Mar-a-Lago at lot with Donnie and Melania,” said Mullally. “I do love that line in the first episode, that Melania called me after one of her night terrors.”
Grace and Messing both went through a divorce. “Certainly, I feel Grace in my body differently because I’m 11 years older,” said Messing. “Grace went through a divorce, I went through a divorce.”
The show can do more around the characters’ sexuality this time around. McCormack said he doesn’t think the show got enough credit for Will’s sexual escapades back then. “There’s lots of episodes where I dated, and not just dated, I made out with Taye Diggs,” said McCormack. “People are always like, Oh, Will never had any sex. Will had lots of sex off-camera. It’s a sitcom. I’m not going to take my dick out. But in episode two, I take my dick out. It’s a whole new world.”
Messing added that the show will continue to reflect society as it is. “Back then, LGB, we stopped at B. And now 11 years later, the conversation has expanded. There’s T, A, I, and gender fluidity and there are all these things that are now finally being celebrated in our culture,” said Messing. “The thing we all committed to one another was that we’re going to be the show that we always were. We’re going to talk about what’s happening now.” Mullally agreed that there’s more leeway in what the show can cover. “When Will & Grace was on the air, at least for the first several seasons, there were no other shows that had gay characters. We were standing alone in that regard,” said Mullally. “Now, if you don’t have at least four gay characters, people are like, What’s this piece of shit?
Expect guest appearances from Harry Connick Jr. and Bobby Cannavale. “We’re all going to date cool guest stars,” said McCormack. “That was always the fun of the show is who can we get that will bring out new things in these characters.” Shelley Morrison, who played Rosario, will not be appearing. “She’s retired from the biz,” said Mullally. There will also be tributes to Debbie Reynolds and Sydney Pollack.
McCormack thinks he looks too tan onscreen. “I was in Vancouver all summer. I’m George Hamilton up there.”
Jack has trademarked a new acting technique called “Jack-ting.Hayes will be sharing acting tips in a web-extra series named “Just the Tips.”
Will and Grace will go into business together in the new series.“Grace Adler Designs has become quite a thing. And Will’s job as a lawyer, he’s doing as well as he can possibly do,” said McCormack. “He wakes up one day and realizes that I spent my [time] around lawyers and clients, and I want to do something that I love with someone I love. So Will and Grace go into business together. I’m not cutting cloth or anything. I’m still a lawyer, but I’m Grace’s lawyer. I think that’s going to create a lot of hilarity.”
The show is filmed with a live audience, so there’s no laugh track.

Eric McCormackDebra MessingSean Hayes and Megan Mullally reunite on the cover of the latest issue of Parade, out on Sunday (September 24)! Here’s what the Will & Grace co-stars had to say:
Eric, on where the show picks up again:“Obviously, it’s 2017—lots of Instagram and Twitter jokes. It’s not the same as a bunch of 24-year-olds sitting around yakking.”
Megan, on auditioning for the part of Grace: “They were like, ‘Next!’ I tried to make [Karen] just a little quirkier and added the ‘honeys,’ the tics and the laughing.”
Debra, on the late Debbie Reynolds, who played Grace’s mother: “She had a dirty mouth. You were convinced she was gonna moon people any second. She was outrageous!”

NEWS - Welcome back! Il promo del ritorno di "Will&Grace"!

News tratta da "Uproxx"
There’s never been a more inviting time to take a show out of suspended animation and give it the “revival” treatment. Among the latest crop of television programs returning after a long-ass hiatus is the new go-around of the sitcom Will & Grace. Going off of the promo dropped on the 4th of July, it feels like we’re in for a total throwback. The promo, which we have nestled above because we believe in patriotic video releases, has the core four (Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally) smiling and doing the ol’ slow motion hug treatment. Essentially, it looks like the sort of commercial you’d see during Will & Grace‘s Must See TV heyday. Look! There’s playful poses by names, Karen slapping Jack and some supportive grimacing (I think?) as Grace dances with glee. You could have sandwiched this slice of video between a 15 second spot for Inside Schwartz and a 30 second clip for Good Morning Miami and I would be none the wiser. If this bonus run is about a ritual slaughter cult it sure as sugar isn’t tipping its hand in advance. Will & Grace, which initially waved goodbye in 2006, will return for a 12-episode run for the 2017-18 season. The debut episode for this limited series engagement is set to premiere on September 28.

L'EDICOLA DI LOU - Stralci, cover e commenti sui telefilm dai media italiani e stranieri

VARIETY
Dove sono le serie tv d'acchiappo?
"As the upfronts approach, it’s hard to scope out pilot pickup buzz at the major broadcast nets this year because there are few clear heat-seekers.
The big bets of this year’s development crop were made early on in the cycle (last summer and fall) and for the most part have retained their front-runner status: ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of Shield” with the Whedon clan; CBS’ redo of “Beverly Hills Cop”; NBC’s 22-episode throwdown for the Michael J. Fox domestic laffer; Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher in Fox’s cop comedy “Brooklyn 99″; and the union of David E. Kelley and Robin Williams in CBS’ “Crazy Ones.”
J.J. Abrams has his minimum allotment of two pilots: Fox’s robot-cops vehicle and “Believe” with Alfonso Cuaron at NBC. David Shore is said to be looking promising with ABC drama “Doubt.”
The fuzzy picture for next season’s series pickups will clear up a little this week as the broadcast nets begin their formal pilot screenings. Here’s hoping there is more sizzle on the screen than there seems to be at this stage. The nets need some flash after a ho-hum 2012-13 season.
There are notable in-demand thesps on the pilot roster this year — Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Josh Holloway, Debra Messing, Rainn Wilson among them — but not so much in the way of eye-popping, mold-breaking material. Procedural dramas abound, as do ensemble comedies about various combos of thirtysomething friends (“Friends” still casts a looonnng shadow).
Some of the most creative ideas have come in the form of nontraditional casting decisions.
“Office” alum Wilson is set for a dramatic turn as a misanthropic homicide detective in CBS’ “Backstrom” (it’s got a Swedish pedigree so ’nuff said), especially with Dennis Haysbert along for the ride. Christopher Meloni is leaving the serious law-and-order biz for a sitcom turn in Fox’s father-son laffer “I Suck at Girls,” which has good buzz. Wendell Pierce of “The Wire” and “Treme” is lending his mellifluous baritone to the Michael J. Fox sitcom (he’ll have to watch his language on broadcast TV).
CBS has put Beau Bridges, Margo Martindale, J.B. Smoove and Will Arnett under one roof for writer Greg Garcia’s untitled father-son comedy, which has momentum at the Eye. With that cast, who needs a script? Also gaining steam at CBS is comedy “Friends With Better Lives,” an ensembler featuring Kevin Connolly and James Van Der Beek. It is fortified by having been directed by James Burrows, who has a hell of a pilot-pickup track record.
At ABC, Adam Goldberg’s comedy with the colorful but soon-to-change title “How the Fuck Am I Normal” is hot enough to begin making staffing offers. At Fox there’s a lot of chatter about domestic laffer “The Gabriels” from Justin Hurwitz and Andrew Gurland.
NBC is said to be high on Jason Katims’ spin on “About a Boy.” A sleeper to watch at the Peacock is comedy “Welcome to the Family” from writer Mike Sikowitz, which revolves around a culture clash of white and Latino families brought together by an unplanned pregnancy. Writer DJ Nash’s comedy “Then Came Elvis,” featuring Harold Perrineau and Parker Posey, also has traction at the Peacock.
Drama-wise, ABC is said to be ready to roll on “Lucky 7,” a redo of a British drama about a group of supermarket employees who win the lottery. Fox likes the look of Kinnear as a charming rogue lawyer in “Rake” — a tonal successor to “House,” no doubt.
There are always a few no-brainers. ABC’s “Agents of Shield” drama is getting on the air unless we all wake up on May 14 (the day of ABC’s upfront presentation) in a parallel world where Disney doesn’t control the Marvel Universe. CBS wants Kim Raver in its stable of stars, which bodes well for the “NCIS: Red” spinoff that the network test-drove as a two-episode arc last month.
Chuck Lorre’s Mom, starring Anna Faris and Allison Janney, is pretty much bulletproof at CBS, aided by a great script and swell cast.
I’m not sure what the reviews are yet for CBS’ legal drama “The Advocate,” from “Mentalist” man Bruno Heller, but I’ll be hunting down a screener just to see Ben McKenzie (fresh off a career-making role on “Southland”) work with the always-awesome CCH Pounder.
McG’s ABC drama “Westside” is also a must-obtain, if only to see what haunts he and writer Byron Balasco chose to feature in the drama set among warring families in Venice (California, not Italia). Angelenos, of course, know the beachside hamlet is not actually a city unto itself, but we’ll let that slide for artistic license — just as long as the Warner Bros. TV production doesn’t have telltale traces of Burbank in its backdrops.

NEWS - New York New York, arriva Liza Minnelli a "Smash" (e stasera la serie debutta su La5)!

L'EDICOLA DI LOU - Stralci e commenti sui telefilm dai giornali italiani e stranieri

There are multiple ways to look at the very conception of Smash, the Broadway musical theater drama for NBC. It was originally developed at Showtime when Robert Greenblatt, now heading NBC, was running the pay cable channel. So the narrow constraints of the premise make sense – it could have been perfect on cable. It was also an idea that came from Steven Spielberg and nobody in the television business has been able to say no to him for, well, ever. Which means it was likely to get made no matter what.
And the adorable part is Greenblatt bringing it over to NBC, walking it into the big tent and promoting the hell out of it (airing the night after the Super Bowl, no doubt with ad support, following one of the rare NBC hits, The Voice). It’s almost like Smash was a remembrance of things past for Greenblatt – a gewgaw from the gilded world of cable, useless in the brutal world of mass entertainment.
And then there is this other way to look at it: Smash is excellent, a bar-raiser for broadcast networks. It may be pigeonholed as Glee for grown-ups, but Smash could be the first series to take America’s fascination with singing shows (one of its main stars is singer-turned-actress Katharine McPhee, the beloved American Idol runner-up in 2006) and mix it with a well-written drama to create something of more substance than Glee.
Of course, Smash wouldn’t shy away from Glee’s ratings or attention, but its focus is loftier -- a behind-the-scenes look at casting and launching a show on Broadway and the ego clashes, emotional toll and dramatic battles that ensue before the curtain finally goes up. Where Glee is a tonal clash of styles that was admirably ambitious in its first season, it’s a creative mess at this point, content to be pop-culture candy haphazardly tossed together in the hopes of being passably funny, superficially dramatic or treacly.
Smash, on the other hand, looks and feels like a well-written, tightly focused adult drama more likely to be found on cable (NBC didn’t tamper with its intellectual DNA) than anywhere else. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be a hit, nor even acclaimed going forward. But it’s a hell of a start.
Smash focuses on Broadway writing partners Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle) who have had enough success to take a break while Julia and her husband Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) adopt a child. But the hectic life of Broadway beckons when Tom writes a song he wants Julia to hear – for a potential musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, an idea both had dismissed as impossible or dumb – and slowly the duo are lured into making it happen. Anjelica Huston plays producer Eileen Rand who desperately wants the production to go forward, even though she’s in a bitter divorce with a husband bent on freezing her assets.
Rand hires the brilliant but egotistical and difficult director-choreographer Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) who creates drama wherever he steps. And soon there’s a battle for the lead of the Marilyn musical between Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) the seasoned chorus performer obsessed with being the star, and recent New York arrival (via Iowa) Karen Cartwright (McPhee) who has the talent but perhaps not the conniving viciousness to make it to the top.
A well-worn theme, yes, but in the hands of the Smash creators, a drama with real vitality and the musical numbers are exceptional. That’s because the talent in front of and behind the camera on Smashis gold. Borle, Hilty, James and Davenport have theater experience. All the songs are written by Tony and Grammy Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The pilot was written by playwright and screenwriter Theresa Rebeck and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. The list goes on.
So the pedigree is there (and if you’re dubious about McPhee’s ability to play on this team, she’s wonderful). The question then is, will anyone watch? For starters, they should. But musical theater isn’t exactly mainstream fare in America, no matter how well it’s wrapped in drama. On the plus side, it will have The Voice as a lead-in on Tuesdays and, theoretically, the audience would be interested in similar content.
But it’s also possible that Smash is a niche show, something NBC has all-too-many of scattered on the schedule. And yet, quantitative performance is not your worry – leave that to Greenblatt. Smash is a surprisingly high-quality drama and entertainment well worth your investment of time and support, and that’s the only thing a viewer needs to be concerned about.

NEWS - "Smash", ah haaa!

NEWS - "Smash", gioco, partita!

Il sesso (ex?) forte sarà messo alla berlina da “The Last Day of Man” e “Man Up” (entrambi ABC: due titoli, un programma!), “My Life as an Experiment” (NBC) e dal nuovo progetto, ancora senza titolo, di Rob Schneider.
