Ellen Pompeo revealed some shocking news at BuzzFeed Brews with Facebook Live on Wednesday: She plans to move on from acting once Grey’s Anatomy comes to an end.

“I definitely don’t have a strong desire to act after Grey’s,” Pompeo said as she sat beside Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, the two other leading ladies on Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night dramas. “I feel myself transitioning. I don’t find acting terribly empowering. For the place I am in my life … I don’t necessarily want to work for other people.”
Pompeo said her decision stems from feeling a sense of completion with her work on the hit ABC medical drama, which is heading into its eleventh season this fall. “With acting, I don’t feel I have anything to prove anymore,” she explained. “Grey’s is in 97 countries or something, and we’ve had this blessing of all these wonderful fans who still love us 10 years later; I feel like we did it. And I don’t have anything else to prove.”
She continued, “I’d like to try and challenge myself. I feel like I got the acting thing. I would like to try and see if I could do something different, and be successful at something different. I feel like I’m very successful at acting, at my definition of success. Some other people want films or Oscars or whatever, and that’s their journey. For my journey, I kind of feel like I did the absolute top of what I could do with television, and I would like to try a new sport and see if I’m any good at something else.”

To that end, Pompeo has thrown her hat into another area of Hollywood, forming the production company Calamity Jane. “Producing is very challenging, but it’s very interesting to me and fun to try and find projects. That’s where I really have fun now,” she said. “That’s fun for me, to find a book or an article or an idea and turn it into something.”

Pompeo also said that she isn’t ruling out acting in the future entirely. “Never say never,” she said with a laugh. “I’m not going to come out there and make one of those statements like, ‘I’m retiring.’ I think Jay Z said he was retiring at one point too. So, I try to keep an open heart and open mind and open soul and spirit to whatever comes my way, and whatever is meant to be for me will be.”
For now, Pompeo is signed on to Grey’s through Season 12, should ABC order another year of Shonda Rhimes’ longest-running series, but when asked if she would be open to playing Meredith Grey beyond that, she replied, “I can’t possibly say. I don’t ever take anything for granted, and I would never be so arrogant as to assume the show would go to Season 12. If we’re doing our jobs, then possibly we’ll be grateful to get a Season 12, but I won’t assume anything. Let’s just make them happy now before we worry about making them happy four years from now.”

(ANSA) - MILANO, 10 SET - Sono in arrivo due nuovi canali targati Fox International Channels su Sky. Dal primo novembre si accenderanno, infatti, Fox Animation e Fox Comedy, per offrire agli abbonati Sky "il meglio dei due generi". Su Fox Comedy, la 'casa del divertimento', verranno trasmesse serie comedy e sitcom prodotte negli Stati Uniti: da classici, come New Girl e Modern Family, a novita', tra cui Friends with better lives, Welcome to the family e progetti innovativi come Wilfred, Louie, The league o It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Su Fox animation, la 'casa delle serie animate', troveranno spazio classici del genere, come The Simpson, I Griffin e American Dad ed esclusive come Bob's burger, Brickelberry e King of the hill, in attesa del nuovo Bordertown di Seth MacFarlane. "Il lancio di questi due nuovi brand indica l'energia e la creativita' del gruppo, e la voglia di investire in nuovi progetti", ha spiegato l'amministratore delegato di Fox International Channel, Fabrizio Salini, durante la presentazione dei nuovi programmi Sky a Milano. "Abbiamo scelto di lanciare nuovi canali di genere come Comedy e Animation - ha spiegato Alberto Rossini, vicepresidente Entertainment and Factual di Fox Italia -, perche' la semplificazione della proposta e' un magnete attrattivo nei confronti degli spettatori". Approda poi sui canali Fox Italia una delle serie televisive "piu' attese della prossima stagione", Wayward Pines, con la regia di M. Night Shyamalan e un cast composto dagli attori Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard, Juliette Lewis e Toby Jones. E' una delle novita' della programmazione di Sky per la stagione 2015, presentata oggi a Milano. Tra gli ospiti anche Matt Dillon che nella nuova serie tv veste i panni di un agente segreto in missione in una cittadina americana, Wayward Pines, in cerca di due agenti federali scomparsi nel nulla. Una volta arrivato, scoprira' di non essere piu' in grado di andarsene e di comunicare con l'esterno, rimanendo intrappolato in uno scenario surreale e inquietante e in situazioni umoristiche. "Il progetto mi e' piaciuto subito - ha spiegato Dillon - ed ero incuriosito dalla possibilita' di recitare in una serie televisiva. La tv e' un mezzo estremamente potente ed efficace -ha proseguito - che rispetto al cinema permette di entrare piu' all'interno di una storia, raccontandola in diverse puntate''. ''Ho lavorato con un cast fantastico - ha proseguito - e il regista ha avuto la capacita' di tirare fuori il meglio dagli attori". Dillon ha pero' rifiutato il paragone tra Wayward Pines e la celebre serie Twin Peaks, perche' Twin Peaks e' "unica e inimitabile". La nuova serie si aggiungera' all'offerta Fox su Sky, con l'obiettivo di proporre ogni sera "una prima visione in prime time".

Tra le fiction, Sky punta su Papa Giovane, la prima serie tv diretta dal regista premio Oscar Paolo Sorrentino, che racconta sogni, paure e desideri di un pontefice, i Delitti del BarLume, tratta dai romanzi di Marco Malvaldi, e Diabolik-La serie, ispirata al popolare fumetto. Andra' in onda nel 2015 la serie in 10 episodi 1992, da un'idea di Stefano Accorsi, che racconta la stagione di Tangentopoli. L'obiettivo e' quello di raggiungere i picchi d'ascolto di Gomorra, venduta in oltre 70 Paesi: le riprese della seconda serie della fiction ispirata al libro di Roberto Saviano inizieranno a marzo. "Gomorra si e' dimostrato uno dei prodotti di maggiore successo della scorsa stagione - ha spiegato l'executive vice president per Cinema, intrattenimento e news di Sky Italia Andrea Scrosati - e probabilmente sara' il primo film italiano che verra' doppiato negli Stati Uniti, allargando ancora di piu' il pubblico. Abbiamo fatto grossi investimenti - ha proseguito - e da 100 ore di trasmissioni autoprodotte quest'anno siamo passati a 300". Spazio anche alle grandi fiction internazionali su Sky Atlantic Hd, con titoli come House of cards 2, True detective, Boardwalk Empire e Fargo.

Warner Bros has set Dax Shepard to write, direct and star in a screen version of CHiPS, that TV series that ran from 1977-83 and featured two officers who patrolled the highways of California armed with motorcycles and the tightest khaki cop uniforms in television history. Shepard will play Officer Jon Baker (played in the original by Larry Wilcox), while Michael Pena is attached to play Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, the role Erik Estrada originated. Rick Rosner created the NBC series. This is the most serious Warner Bros has been in turning CHiPS into a film. The studio tried it years ago, after That ’70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama showed up in the office of exec Greg Silverman (who’s now running production at the studio). Dressed in the signature tight-fitting uniform, Valderrama merely said, “Funny, right?” — and he walked out with a deal and an intention to play Ponch. Apparently it wasn’t funny enough because while TV shows from that era such as Starsky & Hutch and The Dukes Of Hazzard got movie transfers, CHiPS stalled. The new take is envisioned as much in the tone of Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon than a comedy. Shepard is known mostly in humorous roles and the series Parenthood. He’s actually a professional driver of race cars and motorcycles, and he expects to be performing his own riding and stunts. Andrew Panay is producing, along with Shepard’s Primate Pictures. Rosner will be exec producer, and Warner Bros execs Jesse Ehrman and Nik Mavinkurve will oversee for the studio. Shepard most recently directed and wrote the indie comedy Hit & Run, which he starred in with Kristen Bell. CHiPS will be the first one for a studio.
