Batwoman is already scheduled to visit the Arrowverse for the annual crossover event in December; she may now become a permanent member of it, expanding the universe and breaking some TV ground in the process. The CW has put in development a Batwoman series for 2019 consideration. It hails from former The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries and the architect of the CW Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti. In Batwoman, written by Dries based on the DC characters, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. Batwoman already has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in comics. After a long hiatus, she was reintroduced to the DC comic universe in 2006 when she was established as a Jewish lesbian, becoming the first-ever lesbian superhero title DC character. Now Batwoman would become the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series. (DC, Berlanti and Warner Bros. Animation previously collaborated on the first animated show with a gay lead, Freedom Fighters: The Ray on CW Seed). Batwoman would join Arrowverse, which features a number of LGBT characters, including Arrow‘s Curtis Holt, The Flash‘s Captain Singh, Legends‘ Sara Lance and Supergirl‘s  Alex Danvers. Batwoman comes from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television where the company recently extended its overall deal. Dries, who is lesbian, executive produces alongside Berlanti Prods.’ Berlanti and Sarah Schechter as well as former DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns (The Flash) via his new Mad Ghost Productions banner. Johns also has been producing the long-gestating Batgirl DC feature at Warner Bros., which switched writers this past spring. Casting is about to begin for an actress — likely lesbian — to play Batwoman in the DC crossover event in December. If Batwoman goes to pilot, the same actress will play the central character in it. Dries does not work on a CW DC series but is expected to be involved in some consulting capacity when the character of Batwoman is crafted for the crossover, which spans Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. (It is unclear yet which of the series would introduce her.) It was Arrow star Stephen Amell, along with the CW president Mark Pedowitz, who announced at the CW presentation in May that this year’s crossover event will feature Batwoman. “This is the first time ever that Batwoman will make a live-action appearance on any screen,” Pedowitz said, adding that, along with Batwoman, the City of Gotham also will be added to the ever-expanding Arrowverse. With Batwoman, the CW is following the strategy it used for The Flash, whose central character was introduced in a two-episode arc on Arrow in December 2013. While originally the network had planned a third Arrow episode later that season to serve as The Flash backdoor pilot, it ultimately opted for a standalone Flash pilot, which launched the series the following fall. Dries has superhero credentials — she started her writing career on the CW/WBTV Smallville before a seven-season run on The Vampire Diaries, on which she rose to executive producer and showrunner. The character Batwoman began appearing in DC Comics stories beginning with Detective Comics #233 in 1956, in which she was introduced as a love interest for Batman. On TV, Batwoman first appeared in animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which premiered on Cartoon Network in 2008. On film, Batwoman appeared in Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, voiced by Kyra Sedgwick, a 2002 direct-to-video animated film based on animated series The New Batman Adventures. Batwoman also made a cameo in direct-to-video superhero film Batman vs. Robin and appeared in 2016’s Batman: Bad Blood, voiced by Yvonne Strahovski.

On an early October afternoon, the casts of The CW’s “Arrowverse” serials gathered in an airport hangar on the outskirts of Vancouver B.C. for a historic event. From Arrow, there was Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen, aka the show’s emerald archer), David Ramsey (Diggle/Spartan), Willa Holland (Thea Queen/Speedy) and Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak). From The Flash, there was Grant Gustin (Barry Allen, aka the show’s scarlet speedster), Candice Patton (Iris West), Tom Cavanagh (H.R. Wells), Danielle Panabaker (Dr. Caitlin Snow) and Carlos Valdes (Cisco/Vibe). From Legends of Tomorrow, there was Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Franz Drameh (Jax, one half of Firestorm), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein, the other half of Firestorm). And from Supergirl, there was the maiden of might herself, Melissa Benoist, the only actor dressed in their caped crusader colors. (Must be dry cleaning day at the Hall of Justice).

Calling this unprecedented all-star squadron of comic book stars to order, director Dermott Downs instructed them to perform a very important heroic duty: Surprising Benoist with a “Happy Birthday” serenade. “That was overwhelming,” says the actress, who turned 28 on the day in question. “I think that will be the first and only time I will be sung to by a group of superheroes.” Of course, Benoist and all of her Super-Friends had to actually work on her birthday; not even the girl of steel gets a day off for turning another year older. The occasion of this massive team-up: filming a four-show crossover event, which begins in the final scene of the Nov. 28 episode of Supergirl and unfolds over the next three nights in episodes of The Flash, Arrow and Legends. Entertainment Weekly visited the set of the massive undertaking and brings you a report in our new issue, on sale this week. We got to see Supergirl fly, The Flash and Cisco tear a hole in the fabric of space-time (or pretend to), and even saw someone get shot. No, we can’t tell you who, but we can tell you the threat that set the sprawling plot in motion: The Dominators, mind-controlling extraterrestrials threatened by Earth’s surging population of metahumans. If you’re wondering if “mind-control” = “we’re totally going to see these superheroes fight each other,” then you’re absolutely [REDACTED].

The “Arrowverse” has an alternate moniker, the “Berlantiverse,” named after the super-producer who presides over it, and he has some feelings about the term. “I object to it, to be honest. There are just so many people that are also part of this,” says Greg Berlanti, 44, whose prodigious, eclectic output began with Everwood in 2002 and currently includes Blindspot on NBC. “Plus, you never want anything named after you that people could be upset or angry about.” Produced in collaboration with Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, Berlanti’s small screen treatment of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics properties offers an alternative – some might argue correction – the studio’s big screen superhero pop, including the apocalyptic heavy metal of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel flicks and the bubblegum nihilism of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The Arrowverse actually likes superheroes, believes in superheroes, and knows how to have fun with them – and critique them – without deconstructing them to smithereens. They possess the levity of Marvel’s cinematic universe (still the genre’s gold standard), and the progressiveness of Marvel’s best TV offerings (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage), but with a more carefree embrace of melodrama and whimsy.

“These shows have to work on multiple levels,” says Berlanti. “You want them to be fun and enjoyable. But if they’re not about something, why are you showing up to work every day and asking everybody to pour their heart and soul into a story if it’s only about the Flash fighting a villain of the week?”

The 33-year-old actor was on hand to promote the third season of his hit show Arrow. “Being here is a dream come true,” Amell shared during his appearance. “Arrow was my tenth American job; I got my first American job sitting in that audience.” In case you didn’t know, the mid-season premiere of Arrow premieres on Wednesday (January 21) on CW.

Rimettete la freccia, ritorna "Arrow": su Italia 1 venerdì 17 gennaio in prima serata. La serie tv più vista del piccolo schermo italiano ha segnato venerdì scorso su Italia 1, all’esordio della seconda stagione inedita, oltre 3 milioni di spettatori (3.133.000, pari al 13.96% nel target 15-64 anni). Un boom di ascolti trainato dagli spettatori maschi tra i 15-19 anni (26.9% del pubblico sintonizzato) e 20-24 anni (16.2%) – anche se tutte le fasce maschili fino ai 54 anni sono risultate al di sopra del 15% - nonché dalla fascia femminile 20-24 anni che ha raggiunto il 18.5% del pubblico rosa.

Benissimo anche, a seguire, l’esordio di “The Tomorrow People” con Robbie Amell (cugino di Stephen): quasi 2 milioni e mezzo di spettatori (2.446.000, con l’11.61% di share tra i 15-64 anni), in quello che su Twitter è già stato soprannominato l’#AmellFridays per via dei cugini Amell. Un botto anche da #TrendTopic che è arrivato agli account ufficiali di Stephen Amell (@amellywood) e Robbie Amell (@robbieamell), che hanno twittato i ringraziamenti ai fans italiani per il boom di ascolti.

Nel secondo appuntamento con “Arrow”, entra in scena un volto amatissimo dal pubblico seriale e dai telefilmaddicted. Summer Glau, già vista in “Firefly” e “Dollhouse” di Joss Whedon, vestirà i panni di Isabel Rochev, vicepresidente di un’importante azienda che punta ad ottenere il controllo della compagnia della famiglia Queen.

A seguire, su Italia 1 alle ore 22.10, nuovo appuntamento con l’anteprima assoluta di “The Tomorrow People” con protagonista il cugino di Stephen Amell, Robbie Amell. Quest’ultimo sta diventando popolare anche in Italia e “Vanity Fair” in edicola lo ha intervistato in anteprima. “Ho sempre amato la fantascienza - dichiara l’attore nell’intervista – ho visto praticamente tutto del genere, sia al cinema che in tv. Sembrano normali, si mischiano tra la folla. Eppure hanno qualcosa di speciale. Di molto speciale…

Dalle autorevoli firme di Greg Berlanti (“Arrow”) e Julie Plec (“The Vampire Diaries”) arriva su Italia 1 in anteprima assoluta “The Tomorrow People”, ogni venerdì subito dopo “Arrow”, alle ore 22.10. La super-accoppiata trova altresì ragione nel fatto che “TTP” veda tra i protagonisti Robbie Amell, cugino di Spethen Amell di “Arrow”. I Tomorrow People sono degli esseri umani che, a seguito di un'evoluzione genetica, sviluppano poteri straordinari (le cosiddette "Tre T": telepatia, teletrasporto e telecinesi). 
La serie segue le vicende di Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell), un emergente neo-membro dei Tomorrow People. Suo padre, capo dello stesso gruppo, scomparve anni prima per dedicarsi alla ricerca di un posto sicuro dove vivere insieme alla sua specie per sfuggire alla persecuzione degli Ultra, un'organizzazione che mira alla loro distruzione per mezzo dei loro simili, al fine di salvaguardare la razza umana. 
Stephen ha cominciato da poco a “sentire” alcune voci e a risvegliarsi in posti strani. Un giorno decide di “ascoltare” una di queste voci e finisce per incontrare altri come lui: il ribelle John Young (Luke Mitchell), capace di teletrasportarsi; l’affascinante Cara Coburn (Peyton List), dotata di telepatia; Russell Kwon (Aaron Yoo), il quale usa la telecinesi per i propri interessi. Nel frattempo il leader degli Ultra, il dottor Jedikiah Price (Mark Pellegrino) offre a Stephen la possibilità di condurre una vita normale se lo aiuterà a eliminare i suoi simili…Sul piatto della bilancia finisce pure Astrid Fich (Madeleine Mantock), amica d’infanzia di Stephen segretamente innamorata di lui, la quale viene a conoscenza del segreto genetico del protagonista. La serie ideata da Phil Klemmer, lanciata con il claim “Different is dangerous”,  è liberamente tratta da un telefilm omonimo inglese del 1973 (inedito in Italia). Berlanti e Plec firmano da produttori esecutivi con Klemmer, nonchè con Thom Beers, Danny Cannon, Craig Cegielski, Anthony Optican e Roger Damon Price (quest’ultimo ideatore della serie inglese). David E. Russo compone la colonna sonora. Le riprese sono avvenute tra New York e Vancouver. Brian Lowry di “Variety” ha definito il serial “50% ‘Matrix’, 50% ‘X-Men’”. Il clou della serie, aldilà del filosofico dilemma esistenzial-adolescenziale introdotto da "Smallville" (2001) "è meglio essere un super-eroe o essere normale, come tutti gli altri?", è rappresentato da Robbie Amell, cugino del più noto Stephen che mette la Freccia Verde in "Arrow" (in onda con la seconda stagione inedita la stessa sera del venerdì, ma alle ore 21.10). Si dice che in America Robbie, classe '88, rischi di surclassare, in quanto a cuori infranti, le fans del neo papà Stephen. Su Twitter non c'è ancora gara, dove il più maturo interprete di "Arrow" regna sovrano con oltre 256.00 followers contro i quasi 80.000 del cugino (@robbieamell l'account di quest'ultimo). La sfida generazionale a colpi di sex-appeal è aperta, ma c'è da giurarci: l'Amell rivelazione del 2014 sarà Robbie.

Si avvicina la fine dell’anno e “Arrow” risulta la serie tv più vista del 2013 in Italia. Proprio a inizio 2014, il serial con protagonista Stephen Amell tornerà con la seconda stagione inedita su Italia 1 in prima tv free, dal 10 gennaio ogni venerdì in prima serata alle ore 21.10. Per l’occasione, la rete diretta da Luca Tiraboschi lancerà l’accoppiata super-eroica con l’anteprima esclusiva di “The Tomorrow People” (stesso giorno alle ore 22.10), dove compare il cugino di Stephen Amell, Robbie Amell).

NEWS - (Ri)mettete la freccia! Da stasera la seconda inedita di "Arrow" con Flash
Rimettete la freccia, ritorna "Arrow"! La serie-fenomeno della scorsa stagione tv, la più vista con oltre 3 milioni e mezzo di spettatori raggiunti, torna sugli schermi italiani - a ridosso della trasmissione Usa - con una spettacolare seconda stagione in cui i super-eroi diventeranno addirittura due! Oltre al protagonista Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), farà la sua apparizione lo storico super-eroe Flash (interpretato da Grant Gustin), destinato a conoscere uno spin-off su misura firmato dalla stessa produzione di "Arrow". L'appuntamento con l'anteprima assoluta della seconda stagione di "ARROW" è su Premium Action dal 22 ottobre, ogni martedì in prima serata.
Un lampo a Starling City. Nella metropoli vigilata da Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) compare - o meglio, sfreccia - un nuovo super-eroe (in realtà vecchia conoscenza dei fumetti DC Comics nonché del piccolo schermo a puntate). Flash farà il suo esordio nell'ottava puntata della serie tv più vista in Italia nel 2013, per poi dar vita a uno spin-off ad hoc con lo stesso team produttivo di "Arrow" (Greg Berlanti in testa). Ad interpretare il super-eroe che corre e si muove più veloce del lampo è stato chiamato Grant Gustin, già visto in "Glee" e prossimamente al cinema nel film apocalittico "Affluenza", ambientato allo scoccare della recente crisi economica. Gustin vestirà i panni dello scienziato dalla doppia vita Barry Allen, il quale capita a Starling City per indagare su una serie di rapine che riguardano il suo passato. Allen-Flash sarà presente in "Arrow" lungo 3 episodi prima di sfrecciare nella propria serie "su misura": oltre all'ottavo, è prevista la sua presenza nel nono e nel ventesimo episodio. Geoff Johns, celebre fumettista della DC Comics, prenderà parte al progetto di spin-off del personaggio nato nel 1940 e già protagonista di una fortunata serie tv del 1990 con John Wesley Shipp nella tutina di foamglas del rosso giustiziere mascherato.

Flash è un personaggio dei fumetti creato da Gardner Fox e Harry Lampert nel 1940, pubblicato dalla DC Comics. È un supereroe con il potere di muoversi a velocità straordinaria, sfidando le leggi della fisica. La sua prima apparizione è avvenuta nel primo numero di Flash Comics (1940). Secondo  le strips, le capacità straordinarie di Flash derivano dalla loro connessione alla Speed-Force, una fonte di potenza extra-dimensionale infinita che permette di controllare l'energia cinetica. Flash è infatti in grado di muoversi a velocità incredibili riuscendo a superare di svariate volte la velocità della luce. Quando Flash è in movimento risulta invisibile perfino ad esseri super-veloci come Superman (!), oltre a poter camminare sull'acqua, sui soffitti o addirittura per aria. Facendo vibrare le molecole del proprio corpo a super-velocità, il super-eroe dalla tuta rossa fiammante è in grado di attraversare gli oggetti solidi o farsi attraversare, senza conseguenze, da corpi contundenti o proiettili. Inoltre, può eventualmente viaggiare nel tempo o accedere ad altre dimensioni. Oltre alla velocità di movimento Flash possiede anche un'incredibile rapidità di pensiero e riflessi da combattimento elevatissimi. PICCOLO GRANDE SCHERMO - Clamoroso al Cibali! Hunnam rifiuta "50 sfumature": Amell (ri)sfreccia in pole position? 

La scelta del protagonista maschile di “Cinquanta sfumature di grigio” si sta rivelando una saga più lunga di quella letteraria. Charlie Hunnam, prescelto tempo fa per interpretare Christian Grey, ha rifiutato qualche ora fa la parte per “sopraggiunte difficoltà con le riprese del serial ‘Sons of Anarchy’” che lo vede in prima fila nel cast. Secondo “Variety”, il passo indietro dell’attore potrebbe risiedere nella valanga di proteste del pubblico (e dei fans della serie tv) che non avevano apprezzato la scelta caduta su Hunnam.

A questo punto, a quanto rivela Qui Mediaset (www.quimediaset.it), i riflettori potrebbero tornare ad accendersi su Stephen Amell di “Arrow” (la seconda stagione inedita andrà in onda su Premium Action dal 22 ottobre). L’interprete della serie tv più vista nella stagione scorsa in Italia (oltre 3 milioni e mezzo di spettatori su Italia 1) è stato il primo nome comparire pubblicamente tra i candidati (lo ha ammesso egli stesso su Facebook). Secondo alcune voci, tra l’altro, Hunnam avrebbe declinato l’offerta all’improvviso per via di una sceneggiatura che prevedeva scene a tinte forti (non che in “Sons of Anarchy” l’attore si sia mai tirato indietro…). Amell vanta di suo, di contro, una spregiudicatezza altresì nelle scene di nudo già messa in mostra nella serie a sfondo omosessuale “Queer as Folk”.

Amell, attualmente sul set delle riprese della seconda stagione di “Arrow”, per vestire i panni di Christian Grey dovrebbe fare gli straordinari o lasciare maggior spazio, nel serial campione d’ascolti, al personaggio di Flash (interpretato da Grant Gustin), originariamente previsto per tre episodi e già in procinto di dar vita ad uno spin-off.

L’unica certezza del film tratto dal best-seller di E.L. James, atteso nelle sale ad agosto, resta al momento la protagonista femminile Dakota Johnson nei panni di Anastasia Steele. Sempre “Variety” stila una lista di candidati extra-Amell in cui compaiono tra gli altri Ian Somerhalder di “The Vampire Diaries”, Matt Bomer di “White Collar”, Alexander Skarsgard di "True Blood" e Theo James di “Golden Boy”.

I super-poteri della seconda stagione di "Arrow"

"For the coming second season of its superhero series "Arrow," the CW Network is adding actual superpowers. "Arrow" is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, who was introduced in 1941, and it features a costumed crime fighter, played by Stephen Amell, who is great with a bow but doesn't have any supernatural abilities.

To differentiate the TV hero from the comic-book character, the series splits its time between the Arrow and his alter ego, a billionaire playboy named Oliver Queen who picked up his archery skills when he was marooned on a mysterious island for five years.

Rather than rely on superheroes, the show's first season featured high-octane fight scenes and high-tech weaponry. The result was the network's most watched show in the 2012-2013 season, with a premiere that drew 4.1 million total viewers, the largest audience for any show on the network in three years. The CW is owned by CBS Corp. CBS +1.09% and Time Warner TWX +1.32%Inc..

"We always pitched this show more like Jason Bourne than a comic book," says Greg Berlanti, a writer, executive producer and co-creator of "Arrow." "But we're changing some of it up this season."

Those changes include a shift in genre, from action-adventure series to superhero-driven drama.

Arrow "doesn't want to be the vigilante anymore, he wants to be the hero," says Marc Guggenheim, a writer, executive producer and co-creator of "Arrow."

As the CW seeks to continue broadening its programming beyond its core demographic of women 18 to 34 years old, the show's creators have teamed up with DC Entertainment's chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, to introduce another DC character, Barry Allen/the Flash, played by "Glee" co-star Grant Gustin, into three of this season's 22 episodes.

Allen is a forensic police scientist who gets struck by lightning and transforms himself into the Flash, a costumed hero who is imbued with super speed.

Season 2 of "Arrow" will start Oct. 9, just a few weeks after "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."—Marvel Entertainment's first live-action series since it was acquired by Walt Disney Co. DIS +0.53%—arrived on ABC with 11.9 million viewers, the highest-rated network-drama debut in four years.

DC Entertainment is owned by Time Warner, as is Warner Bros. Television, which produces and distributes the series. In addition to the Flash, "Arrow" is also incorporating the Black Canary and the Bronze Tiger, two other DC characters, into its sophomore season.

Culling a greater number of characters from the DC universe is a big synergetic move for Warner Bros., whose film studio has grossed more than $6 billion world-wide because of its DC film properties such as Batman, Superman and the Dark Knight trilogy.

Translating that relationship to the small screen, Warner Bros. Television announced two DC-related projects that are in development, "Constantine," an NBC drama about a con man turned detective, and "Gotham," a Fox show that takes on the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and some of the fictional city's villains.

Fox Broadcasting Corp. is part of 21st Century Fox Inc., FOX +1.62%and until recently it was part of the same company as The Wall Street Journal.

Last season 51% of the audience for "Arrow" was men. To increase those numbers, the network created its first two-hour TV special recap for a continuing show titled "Arrow: Year One," a nod to the titling style of DC's graphic novels. The recap will air Oct. 2.

"We approached season two of 'Arrow' like a sequel," said Mr. Guggenheim, "and we've all seen how superhero sequels have performed. We want to tap into that."
