Ellen Pompeo is opening up about the status of her relationship with Patrick Dempsey after he left their hit series Grey’s Anatomy in 2015. The 49-year-old actress says that she hasn’t talked to Patrick since he exited the series. “We haven’t spoken since he’s left the show, if that’s… I have no hard feelings toward him,” Ellen said on an episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk. “He’s a wonderful actor and we made the best TV you can make together. That’s a talented man right there. He did 11 amazing years.” “Typically, when people leave the show, they need to sort of find themselves, who they are without the show, because the show takes up so much of your life,” Ellen added. “You need that time to figure out who you are without the show, we have not spoke, but I will always have a place in my heart for Patrick.”

On negotiating her $575,000/episode rate:“In all negotiations they don’t immediately give in, and this is also quite a big cast, so they have everybody to deal with, but eventually we got what we wanted. I would say the only time you ever have a good negotiating position is if you’re completely willing to walk away. That’s the only real strength you have. And I never really was there until this last round. I asked for everything on Grey’s because I saw a piece of paper that told me it had generated $3 billion for Disney. That information changed the game for me: knowing my numbers and having information as to what my actual worth was. Over the years lots of characters have come and gone, lots of writers have come and gone. The one thing that’s remained on the show is me, so that’s how I arrived at my confidence.”

On communicating with people above you in a professional hierarchy: “I lead with kissing ass… you always want to start with the positive.”

On sticking to what she knows: “…I’ve been on Grey’s Anatomy forever, and I don’t chase relevancy or trophies. A lot of girls would rather have the attention, and then they realize in their 40s that they have no money to feed their kids and they’re fucked…I made the choice to be OK with no awards and no attention and make it just about going to work and punching the clock. Which I think is healthier for the ego down the line.”

Ellen Pompeo is firing back at rumors and reports suggesting that her Grey’s Anatomy co-stars’ surprising exits are due to her salary increase. The 48-year-old star took to Twitter on Thursday (March 8) to respond to the “unfortunate” claims that her $20 million salary is to blame for Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw exiting the hit medical drama after season 14. 

“Its unfortunate that @DEADLINE chooses to try to pit women against eachother on #InternationalWomensDay #shameonyounotme,” Ellen first tweeted. Back in January, Ellen revealed how much she makes per Grey‘s episode while also sharing that she signed another two-year deal with the show.

“I’m a big girl @DEADLINE can take shots at me if they want but to the fans please don’t fall into that trap. This is above my pay grade,” Ellen also wrote.

On how Patrick Dempsey leaving the show changed things: For me, Patrick [Dempsey] leaving the show [in 2015] was a defining moment, deal-wise. They could always use him as leverage against me — ‘We don’t need you; we have Patrick’ — which they did for years. I don’t know if they also did that to him, because he and I never discussed our deals. There were many times where I reached out about joining together to negotiate, but he was never interested in that. At one point, I asked for $5,000 more than him just on principle, because the show is Grey’s Anatomy and I’m Meredith Grey. They wouldn’t give it to me. And I could have walked away, so why didn’t I? It’s my show; I’m the number one. I’m sure I felt what a lot of these other actresses feel: Why should I walk away from a great part because of a guy? You feel conflicted but then you figure, “I’m not going to let a guy drive me out of my own house.”

On how she negotiated her record-breaking new deal: “What happened is that I went to Shonda and I said, ‘If you’re moving on to Netflix and you want the show to go down, I’m cool with that. But if you want it to continue, I need to be incentivized. I need to feel empowered and to feel ownership of this show.’”

On her meeting with Harvey Weinstein: “My agent once sent me to see Harvey, too. I went right up to his room at the Peninsula, which I would never normally do, but Harvey was a New York guy, so it made sense. Plus, it was in the middle of the day, and he had an assistant there. He didn’t try anything on me. Had he, I’m a little rough around the edges and I grew up around some very tough people, so I probably would have picked up a vase and cracked him over the f*cking head. But I also feel completely comfortable saying that I walked into that room batting the shit out of my eyelashes. My goal in that room was to charm him, as it is in most rooms like that.”

Sofia Vergara is the reigning queen of television.
The “Modern Family” star is the world’s highest-paid TV actress for the fifth year in a row, according to Forbes. With $43 million (before management fees and taxes), her salary is almost $20 million more than that of runner-up Kaley Cuoco, who earned $24.5 million. Unlike the list of film stars, she makes more than her male counterparts.

Aside from the hit ABC sitcom, Vergara can also thank a handful of lucrative product endorsements (from Head and Shoulders to Ninja Coffee Bar to Careisma Scrubs — a line of medical scrubs) for the 66% spike in earnings over the previous year.

Cuoco, who stars in “The Big Bang Theory,” tied with Vergara on last year’s Forbes list, when both actresses netted $28.5 million. Unlike the Colombian actress, Cuoco’s haul is based almost solely from her pay as Penny on the CBS comedy, for which she commands $1 million per episode. Like Vergara, Cuoco and her TV ensemble costars negotiated their salaries together, making the gender wage gap on TV narrower than on film.
Mindy Kaling is the biggest climber on this year’s ranking, rising from eighth to third place with $15 million, between June 2015 and June 2016.
“Quantico’s” Priyanka Chopra cracked the list for the first time, coming in eighth with $11 million. The Bollywood star can also soon be seen on the Hollywood big screen alongside Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest-paid actor, in the “Baywatch” movie.
Mariska Hargitay and Ellen Pompeo rounded out the top five, while Kerry Washington, Stana Katic, Julianna Margulies, and Vergara’s “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen made this year’s top 10. The 15 highest-paid stars commanded a combined $208.5 million — $43.5 more than last year’s total of $165 million.

The 48-year-old Grey's Anatomy leading man dives deep into his personal life, revealing his thoughts on plenty of topics, including audition nerves, his dangerous and expensive hobby... and his mother's legacy after a courageous battle with cancer.On the cover, Dempsey is decked out in a snowy gray blazer covering a classy and unassuming sweater. The conservative look is highlighted nicely by a bright blue handkerchief. Inside pages show him wearing a light bomber leather coat, a jeans-and-blazer combination and seated behind the wheel of a vintage convertible. Relaxed and ready for fall, the actor reveals the mind games that went on during his audition for Grey's Anatomy many years ago. 'At first I thought (show creator) Shonda Rhimes hated me, but she was calculating in her head where to put me and what I'd be right for. 'They liked me, but they wanted me to do a chemistry read with lead actress Ellen Pompeo. I had an immediate connection with her because she has a Boston accent, and I'm from Maine, so that disarmed me.' 

The show has made Dempsey a bona fide star, but as it enters its twilight in season 11, he's had other things keeping him busy lately. His mother recently died from ovarian cancer after a 17-year battle, and Dempsey has since turned even more of his attention to his passion project - the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer, Hope & Healing based in his hometown of Lewiston, Maine.

'The human touch is so healing, and when people come into the center, they're greeted usually by cancer survivors themselves who already know what's going on and are compassionate. I think that's really important, and sometimes you don't get that.'

Ellen Pompeo revealed some shocking news at BuzzFeed Brews with Facebook Live on Wednesday: She plans to move on from acting once Grey’s Anatomy comes to an end.

“I definitely don’t have a strong desire to act after Grey’s,” Pompeo said as she sat beside Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, the two other leading ladies on Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night dramas. “I feel myself transitioning. I don’t find acting terribly empowering. For the place I am in my life … I don’t necessarily want to work for other people.”
Pompeo said her decision stems from feeling a sense of completion with her work on the hit ABC medical drama, which is heading into its eleventh season this fall. “With acting, I don’t feel I have anything to prove anymore,” she explained. “Grey’s is in 97 countries or something, and we’ve had this blessing of all these wonderful fans who still love us 10 years later; I feel like we did it. And I don’t have anything else to prove.”
She continued, “I’d like to try and challenge myself. I feel like I got the acting thing. I would like to try and see if I could do something different, and be successful at something different. I feel like I’m very successful at acting, at my definition of success. Some other people want films or Oscars or whatever, and that’s their journey. For my journey, I kind of feel like I did the absolute top of what I could do with television, and I would like to try a new sport and see if I’m any good at something else.”

To that end, Pompeo has thrown her hat into another area of Hollywood, forming the production company Calamity Jane. “Producing is very challenging, but it’s very interesting to me and fun to try and find projects. That’s where I really have fun now,” she said. “That’s fun for me, to find a book or an article or an idea and turn it into something.”

Pompeo also said that she isn’t ruling out acting in the future entirely. “Never say never,” she said with a laugh. “I’m not going to come out there and make one of those statements like, ‘I’m retiring.’ I think Jay Z said he was retiring at one point too. So, I try to keep an open heart and open mind and open soul and spirit to whatever comes my way, and whatever is meant to be for me will be.”
For now, Pompeo is signed on to Grey’s through Season 12, should ABC order another year of Shonda Rhimes’ longest-running series, but when asked if she would be open to playing Meredith Grey beyond that, she replied, “I can’t possibly say. I don’t ever take anything for granted, and I would never be so arrogant as to assume the show would go to Season 12. If we’re doing our jobs, then possibly we’ll be grateful to get a Season 12, but I won’t assume anything. Let’s just make them happy now before we worry about making them happy four years from now.”

Mentre a Seattle continuano le avventure dei medici del Seattle Grace, a Santa Monica l’equipe di professionisti dell’Oceanside ha i suoi guai da risolvere. Archiviata la pratica lesbo tra la cardiologa Erica (Brooke Smith) e l'ortopedica Callie (Sara Ramirez), "Grey's Anatomy" punta a un nuovo scandalo (più moderato). E' da poco entrata nel cast la dottoressa Sadie, interpretata da Melissa George (già vista in "Alias"). La particolarità è che il nuovo personaggio è dichiaratamente bisessuale ed è un'amica adolescenziale di Meredith (Ellen Pompeo): per gli addetti ai lavori il "due più due" è quasi d'obbligo. La stessa George viene tenuta all'oscuro degli intrecci: "vado sul set e chiedo chi sarà la mia fidanzata o il mio fidanzato...è divertente. La bisessualità, del resto, è più comune di quanto si pensi". Per tutti i fans di "Grey's Anatomy", la puntata di questa sera su Italia 1 è già imperdibile.
Al Seattle Grace ritorna a sorpresa la Dottoressa Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), la quale aveva lasciato l'ospedale per trasferirsi a Los Angeles dopo la fine dell'amore con il marito, il Dottor Derek "Stranamore" (Patrick Dempsey). Si trasferisce nell’assolata Los Angeles per lavorare nella una clinica privata privata Ocean Wellness Center, dove lavorano Naomi (Audra Mc Donald), sua amica dei tempi dell’università, Sam (Taye Diggs), capo dello staff medico della clinica ed ex marito di Naomi, Violet (Amy Brenneman), una psichiatra in crisi sentimentale, Cooper (Paul Adelstein) il pediatra della clinica e il giovanissimo receptionist Dell (Chriss Lowel). Ma soprattutto Pete (Tim Daly), specializzato in medicina alternativa, affascinante e magnetico, che ha già catturato l’attenzione di Addison. E chissà che la nuova vita dell’ex signora Shepherd non parta proprio dall’inizio di un nuovo amore.
Anche "Private Practice" è creata da Shonda Rimes (vincitrice del Golden Globe come Miglior Serie Drammatica) ideatrice e produttrice di "Grey's Anatomy", che anche in questo caso riesce a mescolare sapientemente dramma e commedia, casi medici e intrecci amorosi, facendo ancora centro: ha debuttato a fine settembre negli Usa su ABC e con oltre 14 milioni di spettatori è stata una delle nuove serie più viste dell’autunno televisivo americano.

La dottoressa Meredith Grey di "Grey's Anatomy" è elettrizzata all'idea di essere un'icona gay. "Sono stata cresciuta dalle drag queen - ha detto. - Mia madre è morta quando avevo 4 anni, così mi hanno tirato su una schiera di persone bizzarre. Molte erano amiche di mia sorella, Katlhleen, che aveva un sacco di amici gay". Così oggi Ellen Pompeo è portavoce dei diritti degli omosessuali e, nel loro cuore, ha un posticino speciale. L'attrice in America è una di quelle celebrity considerate, a ragione, "amiche degli omosessuali". Questi impazziscono per il suo personaggio in "Grey's anatomy", e lei non potrebbe esserne più felice. La ragione l'ha spiegata a "Us magazine", ricordando la sua infanzia, tormentata ma serena, trascorsa in ambienti prevalentemente gay. "Mia sorella Kathleen (una delle tre, ndr) mi faceva da baby sitter tutto il giorno e mi portava a casa dei suoi amici. Io stavo a guardarli, mentre si facevano la ceretta, si depilavano le soppraciglia, si truccavano. Insomma, sono stata praticamente cresciuta da loro. Oltre, naturalmente a mia nonna e i miei zii...". Quando da Everett, Massachusetts, dove era nata, Ellen Pompeo (allora ventenne) si trasferì a Boston, lo fece con molti di quei gay che eran diventati i suoi amici del cuore. "Però non posso mentire: non conosco i tormenti o le gioie delle persone gay - conclude l'attrice, fidanzata con il produttore musicale Chris Ivery. Tuttavia, sia lui che lei sono menti aperte. "Chris è cresciuto a Cambridge, in Massachusetts, uno dei luoghi più liberali del pianeta. Ed ha avuto una madre ebrea e un padre di pelle nera, quindi sa cosa sia la diversità" dice Ellen. Ma se suo figlio fosse omosessuale, come reagirebbe? "Bene! Fin tanto che è sano e felice. Spero che cresca decorandomi la casa" dice, ridendo. I produttori del telefilm più visto d'America le hanno rifiutato un aumento. Ancora tensioni sul set del serial cult dopo gli insulti omofobi di Isaiah Wahington al collega T.R Knight Katherine Heigl fuori dal cast del serial medico di culto "Grey's Anatomy"?
L'interprete della bella dottoressa Izzie Stevens sarebbe infatti ai ferri corti con la produzione del telefilm che attualmente è il programma più visto in America e che dal 16 marzo conquisterà tutta la prima serata del venerdì di Italia 1 con il raddoppio di episodi dopo la fine di "Dr.House". Al centro del contendere ci sarebbe soprattutto la richiesta d'aumento del compenso da parte della Heigl, la quale chiede di essere equiparata agli altri membri del cast a livello economico, Sandra Oh e Isaiah Washington in testa. Secondo indiscrezioni, l'attrice se la sarebbe anche presa per la decisione di affidare lo spin-off di "Grey's Anatomy" alla collega Kate Walsh, colei che veste il camice dell'affascinante dottoressa Addison Shepherd, la moglie ritrovata del "Dottor Stranamore" Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Una scelta che avrebbe contrariato e colto di sorpresa non solo la Heigl, ma anche, tra gli altri nomi, la protagonista Ellen Pompeo, interprete della dottoressa Meredith Grey. Quest'ultima rivendica il fatto di non essere stata nemmeno avvisata, mentre in realtà la produzione avrebbe scelto di affidare il ruolo da protagonista dello spin-off di "Grey's Anatomy" alla Walsh sulla scorta di alcuni sondaggi interni al network ABC che rivelavano un boom in ascesa di preferenze da parte del pubblico per la figura della dottoressa sexy e un pò cinica Addison, a discapito della più dolce e romantica collega Grey. In pratica, si tratterebbe di una sorta di operazione di salvataggio nei confronti del personaggio a cui dà vita la Pompeo e, nel contempo, un'occasione unica per sfruttare al meglio l'inaspettato successo della figura incarnata dalla Walsh. Sempre ABC ha negato infine la dipartita di Katherine Heigl dal set, pur usando parole ferme e decise, che puntano sui vincoli contrattuali e non negando dissidi a livello economico: "Katherine fa parte integrante del successo di 'Grey's Anatomy' e fortunatamente abbiamo un contratto a lungo termine con lei, che assicura la sua presenza per molti anni. Coniugando il suo strepitoso talento al successo della serie, abbiamo proposto a Katherine una compensazione significativa al suo contratto vigente. I fans stiano tranquilli: vedremo Izzie per molti altri anni". La domanda che striscia tra gli addetti ai lavori è: Katherine Heigl sarà rimasta soddisfatta della "compensazione significativa" accennata da ABC? Il tira-e-molla della Heigl sul contratto giunge comunque dopo una sequela di tensioni sul set di "Grey's Anatomy" che hanno addirittura conquistato le prime pagine dei giornali americani. Su tutte, quella del diverbio tra Isaiah Washington (interprete del dottor Preston Burke) e il resto del cast quando l'attore ha insultato con un epiteto omofobo il collega T.R. Knight, il quale ha scelto in seguito di fare "coming out". Proprio Katherine Heigl, a margine dei recenti Golden Globes, ha fermamente accusato Washington per quanto accaduto, intimandogli di "chiudere la bocca" sull'argomento. Già in precedenza lo aveva criticato aspramente durante il seguitissimo "Ellen DeGeneres Show". La produzione del telefilm e la ABC, per tutta risposta, hanno obbligato Washington a collaborare con le associazioni di attivisti gay: una linea soft che non sembra aver placato le tensioni sul set del serial più visto e chiaccherato in America.

Solo oggi, Rob Lowe rivela che il ruolo del dottor Shepherd di "Grey's Anatomy" era stato originariamente proposto a lui: "Nelle scelte di un attore ci sono sempre pentimenti, come è successo a Brad Pitt quando ha rifiutato 'Matrix' per interpretare 'Sette anni in Tibet'. Ho rifiutato quel ruolo, ma ora penso che Patrick Dempsey sia perfetto, ottimamente calato nella parte. Obiettivamente, mi sento di dire che non avrei potuto fare di meglio". Il coming out di Lowe cozza però con le dichiarazioni di Ellen Pompeo, che a "Vanity Fair" dichiarò di aver scelto lei il bel Dempsey per il camice di colui che in America è stato soprannominato "McDreamy"...Chi dice la verità (e chi mente) in corsia?
