GOSSIP - Smollet quel cappio!
New video of Jussie Smollett moments after his alleged attack has been released by the Chicago Police Department. The video comes from police body cam footage as they responded to the 37-year-old Empire actor’s 911 call back in January. In the vid, Jussie can be seen wearing rope around his neck in his apartment. The officers ask if he wants to remove the rope and he complies but says he “just wanted you all to see it.” He also adds that his alleged attackers poured bleach on him.
Jussie then tells officers he does not want to be recorded and they agree to turn their cameras off.

NEWS - La caduta dell'Impero!

Netflix had never canceled an original scripted drama series — until this week. On Wednesday, the streaming service pulled the plug on “The Get Down,” one of the most expensive series in television history, with a first season that cost at least $120 million for 10 episodes. Despite recent assurances that creator Baz Luhrmann that a second season was in the offing, Netflix decided not to move forward with the Sony Pictures Television show. According to data from research firm Parrot Analytics, U.S. viewer demand for “The Get Down” never matched that of buzzier Netflix shows such as “Stranger Things” and “The Crown.” It also failed to outshine comparable linear series, including HBO’s canceled “Vinyl.” Parrot uses a proprietary demand-expression metric incorporating desire, engagement, and consumption measurements to gauge audience activity around a show. A report prepared for Variety found activity around “The Get Down” to be minimal in the weeks following its releaseFrom Aug. 11, 2016 through May 24, 2017, “The Get Down” registered 26.6% of the viewer demand for “Stranger Things” and 83.5% of the demand for “The Crown.” “The Get Down” enjoyed a relatively strong start, with 19.8 million demand expressions in its first week on Netflix. “The Crown” was 8.3% higher with 21.4 million demand expressions in its first week, beginning Nov. 4. Netflix split season one of “The Get Down” into two parts. While the premiere of part two April 7 gave the series a slight bump in audience demand for two weeks, that bump failed to sustain, with demand quickly regressing to a lackluster baseline. Parrot also compared demand for “The Get Down” to that for two linear dramas rooted in music — Fox’s “Empire” and HBO’s “Vinyl.” Unsurprisingly, “Empire” — one of the most watched series on television — far outperformed “The Get Down” in audience demand. When compared to “Vinyl,” the “The Get Down” averaged 92% more demand than the HBO show for the Aug. 11-May 24 period. But that’s no great accomplishment, considering that “Vinyl”had been canceled long before that stretch began. In between the premieres of parts one and two of “The Get Down” season one, the series showed a baseline level of demand near or lower than a show that had already been killed. Looking at international markets, “The Get Down” was far outperformed in Brazil and France by “Stranger Things.” In Brazil, the Luhrmann series performed on par with “The Crown,” with neither able to muster much demand. In France, “The Crown” preformed slightly better.

L'EDICOLA DI LOU - Stralci, cover e commenti sui telefilm dai media italiani e stranieri

Empire is killing it at home. Even with a small season two ratings slump, it's still a pop cultural phenomenon of the highest order within the U.S. Elsewhere, though, it's another story: According to the Hollywood Reporter, diverse casts don't tend to play well with international audiences, which in turn helps to explain why they're not as aggressively funded in Hollywood. "These shows are a reflection of our society, but [they are] not a reflection of all societies," Marion Edwards, president of international TV at Fox told THR of shows like Empire, which have expanded the range of stories that get told on television.
"Having a diverse cast creates another hurdle for U.S. series trying to break through; it would be foolish not to recognize that," she continued. "We are telling our units that they need to be aware that by creating too much diversity in the leads in their show means ... problems having their shows translating to the international market."
According to THR, Empire pulled in an underwhelming 717,000 viewers when its first season aired on the U.K.'s E4 network, its second season attracting an audience of only 595,000. In Australia, 181,000 people tuned in for season one, that number dwindling to 77,000 for season two.
In Canada and Germany, audience numbers were similarly low, a viewer turnout that's especially disappointing when compared with the show's consistent weekly audience growth in the U.S. Some 16.7 million viewers watched Empire's season one finale live. Despite an audience dip in the show's second season, its fall finale still drew 11.2 million people.
The disparity is an unfortunate one for an industry that's increasingly come under fire for its lack of inclusivity. The arenas of television and film prioritize projects for white audiences — artists who push for stories that speak to black audiences, for example, are often fighting an uphill battle. When Nate Parker pitched his Sundance hit, The Birth of a Nation, he was repeatedly told that a movie about a slave revolt wouldn't sit well with white audiences, that it couldn't gain traction overseas without a white star. The film later sold for a record $17.5 million to Fox Searchlight.
It took Parker years to get the green light on his movie; many others aren't so lucky. The reminder that efforts at upping inclusivity backfire with international audiences is a frustrating one, because it indicates that industry-wide change — tied as it is to financial concerns — will only come very slowly.
On that note, though, it's worth noting that audiences abroad don't seem to have a fundamental aversion to watching people of other races on screen. THR noted the huge popularity of crime dramas NCIS and CSI amongst international viewers, and explained that both the Cosby Show and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air attained huge popularity wherever they aired. They might, however, have an aversion to shows that tell "specifically black stories."
"If it's too black, it might be too unwatchable for certain people," as Vulture put it.
Part of the problem, too, is the long-form TV show coming out of the U.S. these days, according to THR. While our television increasingly resembles the miniseries, with hour-long installments and plot that builds on itself over the course of a season, international viewers tend toward easily digestible episodes that are shorter in nature and perhaps not designed for binging. Bite-sized television snacks, if you will. Ideally with a white — or, not not white — bent, it seems.

Beau Willimon, Nic Pizzolatto, Shonda Rhimes, Lee Daniels... Ma cos’è uno show runner?

Taraji P(orn) Henson preme l'acceleratore sexy su "W"

Taraji P. Henson shows off a ton of her breasts in this brand new photo from her W magazine cover story. Here’s what the 44-year-old Empire star had to share with the mag:
On her role of Cookie in Empire: “Not only would I never be offered a character like Cookie in a movie, but she doesn’t exist. Cookie is bold and crazy, and she loves the struggle. She started from nothing, and now she’s at the top. In that way, we’re alike: Cookie is the American Dream.”
On originally turning down Cookie: “I was like, This is stupid. Hip-hop—dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. But then I started to think, Cookie is going to piss so many people off! She hits her son with a broom; she talks back. Clearly, this was a challenge.”
On moving to LA to pursue acting when her son was a toddler: “It was a struggle. But my son grew as my career grew. I never had a nanny—I did TV so I could be home with him. I wasn’t making my millions, but I was able to fulfill my dreams and be a mother.”

Taraji P. Henson lets her gorgeous hair run wild on the July 2015 cover of Allure magazine.
Here’s what the 44-year-old Empire star had to share with the mag:
On co-star Terrence Howard‘s legal issues: “Let’s pop the trunk to your life and see what’s dysfunctional and what’s bad…. At the end of the day, we’re all human and we got flaws and we got shit.”
On working her way into the industry by doing friends’ hair and nails: “I come from a family of hard workers….Oh, yeah, I knew how to hustle and make money. We used to do wet sets…I bought a hooded dryer, and I had my box of rollers…I could have gone to jail; I had no license whatsoever. But it was just my friends. They were like, ‘Girl, hook me up.’”
On not sleeping with co-stars: “I always wanted to be known for my work. Not who I dated. Not who I slept with…I have a gift, and my gift is acting. I started in the business at 26 with a kid, so I was smart enough to know reality from fantasy. I didn’t want to blur the lines. This is a job that I have to do. I cannot get caught up in it. And if I sleep with these guys, why would they want to work with me again? The conquest is up.”

NEWS - "Power" vs. "Empire".

James Gandolfini era uno sconosciuto in pratica.

Okay, maybe it’s not a SUPER huge deal, just normal huge. The Big Bang Theory is still the second highest-rated show in the key demo, and its most recent episode was watched by 16 million viewers, which was actually down two million from three weeks prior. But TBBT doesn’t appear on theWrap‘s list of the 50 youngest skewing shows on television, or the 50 oldest. It’s somewhere in the middle, unlike Empire, which is the 24th youngest. You can practically see #brands salivating at the chance to slap their commercials in-between Cookie telling people off.
