So what can you tell us about the experience of being the leading actress of a sitcom now, being in television?

ANNA FARIS:  I am loving it.  This is, in a lot of ways, the most satisfying job I've ever had.  And I love the family that the ‑‑ the TV family that we have.  I love my cast members.  I love the idea that I get to potentially play a character for an extended period of time.  I love it that I don't ‑‑ my character dates a little bit, but I don't really have a love interest; that my struggle is one of trying to be a better mom, a better person, and – because for so long, I think ‑‑ from, like, until you're ‑‑ from, like, 20 to 40 or maybe longer, most of the roles you have in film, there's ‑‑ revolves around some kind of love interest.  That's either the goal, or that's ‑‑ you know, you want the guy, or you have to keep the guy, or you're rolling your eyes at the guy and you want him to change because he's being such a child or ‑‑ So it's so liberating to not ‑‑ and that's just one of so many things, but I'm really ‑‑ I'm really loving this.  I drive to work every day, and I'm just so thankful and happy.  And so I'm hoping good things.

Does it feel like an upside‑down world where film has become a space where predictability has become a big issue for character and sitcom, which once upon a time we might have actually thought was exactly that, is now a space where there's some quite fun and risky things happening?

ANNA FARIS:  It's definitely ‑‑ it is a changing environment, isn't it?  And I don't know ‑‑ this is my first time in TV, so I'm so unfamiliar with how everything works.  I'm kind of a moron with that stuff.  But I ‑‑ I find this character and the fact that she gets to evolve as we ‑‑ and we get ‑‑ you know, we're all still finding who she is, what her past is.  And I find that experience just so rewarding.  And you don't get that in film.  And I do think finding ‑‑ I think that for a long time ‑‑ maybe it's ‑‑ maybe it's starting to shift, but female characters in film, like the kind of roles that I would be up for ‑‑ I'm getting older now, so I'm not necessarily up for them ‑‑ but were ‑‑ the fear, it always felt like, is the audience going to like this person?  Are the men going to fall in love with her, and are the women going to want her to be their best friend?  It was always the mantra, I felt like, of filmmakers in my world ‑‑ in terms of comedy and romantic comedy I'm talking about ‑‑ that you end up with a very watered‑down, to me, kind of bland character.  So this is ‑‑ this is opposite of that.  Does that kind of sort of ‑‑

Anna, does it become harder or easier to discuss heavy issues, like in this show, through comedy? Like alcoholism and single mother?

ANNA FARIS:  I find ‑‑ I mean, I love it that we deal with these issues.  I love it so much.  It's terrifying.  We just had an episode air about breast cancer.  And it's one of those things, like how ‑‑ how do we deal with breast cancer with ‑‑ but I just ‑‑ I love it that ‑‑ I feel like we're a comedy ‑‑ and I know this is important to Chuck ‑‑ that has a lot of deep emotional moments.  And I'm hoping that our audience in turn will become emotionally invested with us and care about our journey as opposed to dealing with issues of, like, you know, I don't know, the laundromat's closed or whatever.  I mean, not to knock ‑‑ I love ‑‑ I love everything out there, but ‑‑ But it's very satisfying as an actor, for me, and I hope that our audience agrees that ‑‑ 

You probably could have played her without being a mother, but how has the approach to her changed with ‑‑

ANNA FARIS:  I feel slightly more qualified. But I think ‑‑ I'm still learning with my kids on the show because I have a little baby.  So that's ‑‑ it's a different deal.  But even hanging out with Sadie, who plays ‑‑ Sadie Calvano, who plays my teenage daughter, during the first few episodes, I was like, I have not been around a 16‑year‑old in a really long time. And so I think I'm still finding my footing with Christy being a mom.  And I find it ‑‑ it's two very different worlds.  And I think that maybe that's okay because I think Christy, being newly sober, is still finding herself as a mom.  Like we're dealing with sort of the storyline of my daughter's pregnancy.  And I asked the writers, you know, "Why isn't my character more mad?," you know.  Like "You're making the same mistake that I made.  You're making the same mistake that Bonnie made.  Your dreams, whatever you had, everything is going to shift now."  And I think that the explanation of why my character isn't more mad is because she's ‑‑ and who knows?  Maybe in the next episode, I'll get furious.  I don't know. But I think that right now she's struggling with so much guilt.  So I think she has to, like, swallow a lot of her anger and try to mend the ‑‑ repair the damage that she's done as a mom, or at least that she feels that she's done.

What has surprised you the most about doing television?

ANNA FARIS:  Oh, gosh.  I think ‑‑ I think how satisfying it is; how much, as an actor, I feel like I've grown, I think.  I think you tend to look at the television world as, like, maybe not as ‑‑ maybe not as satisfying as the film world, or maybe you're not playing ‑‑ maybe you're playing, I don't know, characters that ‑‑ or maybe the journey isn't ‑‑ the vision isn't as grand or something.  I don't know.  But I think, for me, this is ‑‑ this has just been ‑‑ it's been amazing.  I love that ‑‑ shooting in front of a live audience is amazing because I grew up doing theater, and so it taps into my love for that.  But the best part is they laugh at everything. I mean, they're the most generous ‑‑ I mean, they want to be there, and they're so generous.  And so you can sort of do no wrong.  So it's kind of the best audience you could have. So I'm just loving it.

Fino all’avvio di “Satisfacion” (Premium Stories dall’11 settembre), riguardante gli eventi che inducono un tranquillo investitore finanziario a diventare un gigolò dopo aver scoperto la moglie a letto con uno di loro. Anna Faris ha festeggiato il rinnovo della sit-com “Mom” (Joi) con la copertina di “Health”. La CBS ha rinnovato infatti per la 3° stagione il titolo ideato da Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky e Gemma Baker. Protagonista è Anna Faris nel ruolo di Christy, una giovane mamma single con un passato da ex alcolizzata e tossicodipendente che decide di trasferirsi a Sonoma County, in California, per dare una svolta alla propria vita. L’attrice è invece il ritratto della salute sulla cover della rivista “Health” di aprile (vedi foto allegata). Nell’intervista al suo interno, Faris rivela che il creatore Chuck Lorre e la CBS non le hanno mai chiesto di dimagrire, seppure fosse un po’ più in carne all’inizio delle riprese della 1° stagione. E alla domanda su quando si senta sexy l’attrice non ha dubbi: “Probabilmente a casa con mio marito (l’attore Chris Pratt di “Parks and Recreation”, altra sit-com di Joi, 7° stagione inedita dal 29 maggio, ndr). Mi fa sentire bellissima anche quando mi sento disgustosa”.

NEWS - I nuovi "Friends" di "Undateable" sono la Joi di Mediaset Premium


IN ANTEPRIMA ASSOLUTA

“Undateable” (in anteprima assoluta su JOI dal 25 novembre) è, secondo i critici Usa, “LA sit-com dell’anno”. Un gruppo di “Friends” sulla trentina si ritrova ad essere, per un motivo o per l’altro, non…frequentabile. Ovvero: non fidanzabile. Lo stesso protagonista – interpretato da Chris D’Elia – seppur donnaiolo impenitente, non riesce a gestire il rapporto con l’altro sesso se non per una notte e via. La firma della sit-com è DOC: quel Bill Lawrence già dietro i successi di “Friends”, “Scrubs”, “La tata” e “Cougar Town”. La storia di fondo è basata sul best-seller “Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating Or Having Sex” di Ellen Rakieten e Anne Coyle, sui comodini di tutti i single più impenitenti d’America.

Ad Halloween si ride! Dal 31 ottobre Rebel Wilson – soprannominata in patria “la Adele delle comedy” - vi farà sbellicare con “Super Fun Night” su JOI. Il venerdì un trio di protagoniste in carriera si scatena in serate che al sabato mattina faranno fatica a ricordarsi. Oltre ad esserne la protagonista, Wilson firma la sit-com da ideatrice e produttrice. L’idolo-teen Ashley Tisdale è tra le interpreti principali. Brooke Shields e Charles Shaughnessy sono tra i volti noti di passaggio.

I PROSEGUIMENTI DI CULTO IN PRIMA TV

Le due sit-com più premiate, popolari (e costose) d’America sono in anteprima su JOI.

L’8° stagione inedita di “The Big Bang Theory”, quella di cui si è tanto parlato per il record di compensi storico raggiunto dagli interpreti di ben 1 milione di dollari a testa a episodio, partirà dal 6 gennaio forte dei 7 Emmy Awards e i 5 Critics Choice Awards vinti, tra gli altri premi, fino ad oggi.

“Due Uomini e Mezzo” con Ashton Kutcher (attore più pagato del piccolo schermo Usa per il 3° anno consecutivo forte dei 26 milioni di dollari in tasca la scorsa stagione) è attualmente in onda con la 10° stagione inedita (ogni martedì). Miley Cyrus è tra i volti noti a far da capolino in due puntate. I 9 Emmy Awards raccolti fino ad oggi la candidano a diventare tra le sit-com più premiate di tutti i tempi.

“Mom”, in scaletta su JOI dal 2 gennaio, vanta il fresco Emmy Award vinto da Allison Janney nella categoria “comedy”, nonché la verve di Anna Faris, regina delle parodie americane al cinema. Entrambe in una sit-com su misura confezionata da Chuck Lorre, ideatore dell’ipercult “The Big Bang Theory” (altro titolo fiore all’occhiello di JOI). La protagonista, Christy, è una madre single di due figli con un passato di abusi di alcol e droghe che tenta di rifarsi una vita come cameriera e con l’aiuto della genitrice.

Coppie anomale o di fatto sono quelle portate in scena da “Mike&Molly” (5° stagione inedita su JOI dal 3 febbraio) e “2 Broke Girls” (la 4° stagione inedita su JOI dal 3 marzo), dove le disgrazie in salotto o in una tavola calda si scontrano con temi caldi, se non bollenti, quali la crisi economica, la politica o la società. Kim Kardashian è tra le guest-star annunciate della nuova stagione di “2BG”.

Il miglior legal drama degli ultimi anni, quello che “Variety” ha definito “un Vesuvio in eruzione sul genere legale”, è “Suits”, con la 4° stagione inedita in partenza su JOI ad aprile 2015.

“Shameless” (5° stagione inedita su JOI prossimamente) capeggia le famiglie sui generis alle prese con i problemi di tutti i giorni (crisi economica, tradimenti, figli degeneri, genitori da cattivi esempi). Nel frattempo la protagonista Emmy Rossum conquista in America una copertina dopo l’altra ed è sempre più lanciata al cinema.

“Parks&Recreation” con Amy Poehler, eletta da “Variety” tra le 3 donne più influenti della tv americana dopo il successo della sit-com che svaria tra cinismo e politica, promette di far ridere con intelligenza anche con la 7° stagione inedita (su JOI prossimamente). Un Golden Globe e 3 Critics Choice Awards sono già in bacheca tra i premi che contano. Attenzione a Megan Mullally di “Will&Grace” che torna a vestire i panni della svitata Tammy nella 2° puntata.

Toh, chi si rivede! Il dottore per Vip di “Royal Pains” (6° stagione inedita su JOI dal 3 novembre) si avvale sempre più spesso dei servigi di Sonia Braga (la regina indiscussa delle telenovele) e Henry Winkler (l’indimenticato Fonzie di “Happy Days”), presenti in più di una puntata nella nuova stagione.

Infine, il “consulente sensitivo” Shawn Spencer (James Roday) ha sempre più bisogno della spalla amica di Gus (Dulé Hill) in “Psych” (8° stagione inedita attualmente in programmazione su JOI).

“The Middle” (JOI dal 6 febbraio) vede una famiglia barcamenarsi al centro della crisi economica. Patricia Heaton di “Tutti amano Raymond”, già vincitrice di un Emmy Award, è la mattatrice della sit-com.

NEWS - Mamma single ex alcolizzata e tossicodipendente con figli e madre a carico: non è un dramma, è la sit-com della stagione! Da domani "Mom" su Joi

Una mamma single ex alcolizzata e tossicodipendente con figli e madre a carico in salotto, con un posto da cameriera in un ristorante chic dove si mette a piangere quando serve ai tavoli di coppie felici o quando ordinano torte di compleanni…Ma non è un dramma: è la sit-com della stagione, firmata da quel Chuck Lorre di “The Big Bang Theory” (5 Emmy Awards e un Golden Globe). Dal 28 marzo, in anteprima assoluta approda su JOI (Mediaset Premium) “Mom”, ogni venerdì, alle ore 21.10.

Anna Faris, regina delle parodie americane al cinema, debutta in una sit-com su misura confezionata da Lorre, ideatore dell’ipercult “The Big Bang Theory” (altro titolo fiore all’occhiello di JOI).

La protagonista, Christy, è una madre single di due figli con un passato di abusi di alcol e droghe che tenta di rifarsi una vita come cameriera. Vista la crisi economica, la nostra si vede costretta, per dividere le spese, a ospitare la madre Bonnie (Allison Janney, vincitrice di 4 Emmy Awards per “West Wing”), anch’essa con un passato turbolento di droghe e alcol, sua compagna di banco nei rehab. Le risate in sottofondo sono ispirate da una scrittura a tratti cinica che sfocia nello sferzante all’interno di un microcosmo familiare non del tutto anomalo ai giorni nostri.

La sit-com è stata rinnovata in Usa per una seconda stagione. Jon Cryer di “Due Uomini e Mezzo” (in onda su JOI dal lunedì al venerdì alle ore 18.50), altra sit-com cult firmata da Chuck Lorre, compare nella puntata-pilota.

“E’ una sit-com che mette alla berlina i rancori tra madre e figlia – ha commentato ‘Variety’ – esorcizzando l’autodistruzione con più di una risata”.

Chi è la vera Anna Faris? L’interprete esplosiva di “Mom”, una delle sit-com più detonanti dei luoghi comuni familiari in arrivo su Joi dal 28 marzo, è stata avvistata nelle scorse settimane in 3 fasi differenti, ciascuna rappresentativa della sua multiforme personalità alla quale dà vita anche sul set. 
1) look grunge da sopravvissuta alla crisi economica a West Hollywood, subito dopo esser andata a farsi le unghie (si suppone per pochi spiccioli), con jeans stracciati che manco Jena Plinsky di “1997 fuga da New York” approverebbe oggi come oggi.  
2) elegantissima sui Red Carpet dei Grammy Awards e della prima di “The Lego Movie”, al primo evento in abito stile Morticia degli Addams, nel secondo con tubino a scacchi anni ’80 degno delle coriste degli Human League 
3) sexy come nessuna secondo i lettori della rivista “Glam’Mag”, i quali a marzo 2014 l’hanno eletta “attrice più attraente dell’anno” (forse ricordando il celebre servizio fotografico di qualche tempo fa su “GQ”…).

Se è vera la tesi che la serie televisive siano diventate uno specchio fedele della realtà, se non addirittura nuova letteratura che rilegge classici e capaci di anticipare il futuro, dando una scorsa ai titoli seriali del 2014 di Mediaset Premium non ci sono più dubbi. L’offerta delle tv digitali a pagamento di Mediaset è quanto mai varia e appetitosa di temi e spunti ancorati alla realtà anche quando si tratta di grandi classici o ci si proietta in racconti ai confini della realtà.

IN ANTEPRIMA ASSOLUTA

“DRACULA”, che MYA programma dal 15 marzo in anteprima assoluta. Il cult di Bram Stoker, firmato dalla stessa produzione di “Downton Abbey”, assume un taglio inedito nonostante le molteplici riletture divise tra grande e piccolo schermo. L’ultima in ordine temporale vede Jonathan Rhys Meyers nei panni di Vlad Tepes che, fingendosi un imprenditore americano, si reca nella Londra vittoriana per introdurre la scienza moderna. La conoscenza della bella Mina Murray (Jessica De Gouw), apparente reincarnazione della defunta moglie Ilona, sconvolgerà i suoi piani. L’aspetto new-romantic e di amor fou prende il sopravvento su una trama che nella consuetudine ha calcato la mano (e i canini) sul tema vampiresco, qui inserendo oltremodo il concetto del demone interiore – Dracula, per l’appunto – che alberga dentro l’animo di un protagonista con la sete, più che di sangue, di vendetta.

Altro titolo già da Top-Tweet ancor prima di partire è “THE ORIGINALS”, in arrivo in prima tv su MYA dal 9 febbraio. Lo spin-off di “The Vampire Diaries”, con le firme DOC di Kevin Williamson e Julie Plec della serie-madre, è ambientato nel quartiere francese di New Orleans e segue le vicende di Klaus (Joseph Morgan), l’ibrido della stirpe dei Vampiri Originali che scopre di aspettare un figlio dalla licantropa Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). I genitori si rassegnino: i classici teen-drama son quasi estinti come i vampiri all’alba e le storie adolescenziali si innestano su trame che utilizzano i confini della realtà per suggerire che essere “diversi” (vampiri, licantropi o super-eroi che siano) può non solo essere disdicevole ma addirittura cool.

I PROSEGUIMENTI DI CULTO IN PRIMA TV

Una famiglia (allargata) da tener d’occhio è quella dei Braverman di “PARENTHOOD” (5° stagione inedita su MYA dal 17 febbraio) con al centro la madre single Sarah (Lauren Graham). Produce Ron Howard, già regista del film del 1989 dal quale è tratta la serie.

Se si vuole avere un’istantanea della generazione tablet già impressa in “PRETTY LITTLE LIARS” (la 4° stagione inedita su MYA dal 23 aprile) e “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES” (la 5° stagione inedita su MYA dal 13 febbraio, il 100° episodio in onda il 20 marzo).

Le questioni di cuore unite alla voglia di cambiar vita sono al centro della 2° stagione inedita di “HART OF DIXIE” con Rachel Bilson (su MYA dal 4 agosto).

Nel frattempo la protagonista Emmy Rossum conquista in America una copertina dopo l’altra ed è sempre più seguita dallo showbiz.

Dulcis in fundo, le tre sit-com più premiate e acclamate d’America, in onda tutte su JOI. “THE BIG BANG THEORY”, manifesto della generazione nerd (e non solo) al grido di “Bazinga!”, è attesa con la 7° stagione inedita dal 1 aprile con la bacheca colma di 7 Emmy Awards, 1 Golden Globe e 2 People’s Choice Awards.

“PARKS&RECREATION”, fresca vincitrice del Golden Globe assegnato alla protagonista Amy Poehler, è attualmente in onda con la 6° stagione inedita ogni martedì.

Il futuro immaginato da J.J. Abrams nel nuovo “ALMOST HUMAN” (in partenza su PREMIUM ACTION dal 1 marzo) è in qualche modo alle porte di una società che cambia. Nel 2048 la scienza ha permesso di affiancare ai poliziotti di Los Angeles una serie di androidi del tutto simili agli esseri umani. John Kennex (Karl Urban), detective del dipartimento che si è appena risvegliato dal coma dopo un attentato, si ritrova a pattugliare la città con il collega androide Dorian (Michael Ealy), dalle inaspettate reazioni emotive. Secondo più di un critico, il fatto che il protagonista-robot sia di colore – in piena presidenza Obama – rappresenta una sorta di tacito manifesto dell’integrazione contro il razzismo della diversità. Che il progresso della scienza sia uno dei nuovi trend seriali lo prova anche l’arrivo in prima tv della serie-evento “ORPHAN BLACK”, in onda su PREMIUM ACTION dal 20 maggio e già inserita dal prestigioso “Entertainment Weekly” tra le “3 miglior serie della stagione”. La storia è quella di Sarah Manning (interpretata dall’astro nascente Tatiana Maslany), una ragazza orfana che, dopo avere assunto l’identità di una persona a lei straordinariamente somigliante, scopre di essere frutto di un esperimento scientifico.

Thriller politico ad alta tensione ambientato alla Casa Bianca è l’inedito “HOSTAGES”, in prima tv su PREMIUM ACTION dall’8 giugno. La dottoressa Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) è il chirurgo prescelto per operare il Presidente degli Stati Uniti. Prima dell’operazione, la dottoressa e la sua famiglia vengono presi in ostaggio da un agente del FBI che intima alla donna di uccidere il Presidente se vuole salvare i suoi cari. Prodotto da Jerry Bruckheimer, firma DOC di “CSI” e dei procedural più di successo dell’ultima decade.

E il tutto in attesa degli arrivi settembrini di “BELIEVE” altra produzione di J.J. Abrams sugli sviluppi genetici incontrollati della scienza, in arrivo su PREMIUM ACTION.

I PROSEGUIMENTI DI CULTO IN PRIMA TV

Un futuro che scorre in parallelo e fa riflettere anche nella 2° stagione inedita di “REVOLUTION” (su PREMIUM ACTION ogni mercoledì) dello stesso Abrams, dove un black-out misterioso ha gettato l’umanità agli antipodi della civiltà e dei rapporti umani.

A tener alta la bandiera dei super-eroi ci pensa invece “ARROW”, la serie tv più vista in Italia nel 2013 e nei primi mesi del 2014 che torna con gli ultimi episodi inediti su PREMIUM ACTION dall’11 febbraio, in onda a pochi giorni dalla trasmissione americana in lingua originale con i sottotitoli.

La 3° stagione inedita di “GRIMM” (su PREMIUM ACTION dal 3 marzo), in cui il detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) vede il lato oscuro delle persone, le "bestie selvagge" che si nascondono nelle persone che lo circondano. Il più delle volte con cattive intenzioni.

Curiosità: nell’era Obama, “IRONSIDE”, remake della celebre serie del 1967 con Raymond Burr, vede il detective protagonista costretto su una sedia a rotelle assumere origini afro-americane, interpretato da Blair Underwood. Al via su PREMIUM CRIME dal 1 maggio.

Nella schiera dei detective a puntate entra in squadra anche l’ispettore inglese Alan Banks (Stephen Tompkinson) di “DCI BANKS”, tratto dalla saga best-seller omonima. In prima tv dal 27 agosto su PREMIUM CRIME. E il poliziesco “CHICAGO PD” (su PREMIUM CRIME), nuova e attesissima creatura di Dick Wolf di “Law&Order”…

I PROSEGUIMENTI DI CULTO IN PRIMA TV

Anche nel genere crime e nelle sue derivazioni le “strane coppie” funzionano.

Sono due facce della stessa medaglia dark quelle di Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) e Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) lungo la 2° stagione inedita di “THE FOLLOWING”, in anteprima assoluta su PREMIUM CRIME ogni lunedì.

Ci sono titoli poi che la realtà addirittura la anticipano. E’ il caso clamoroso di “PERSON OF INTEREST” – altra produzione di J.J. Abrams, in collaborazione con l’ideatore Jonathan Nolan – capace di prevedere la vicende del Datagate fin dal 2011. Nella serie che va in onda con la 3° stagione inedita su PREMIUM CRIME dal 16 febbraio ogni singolo cittadino risulta 'person of interest', soggetto sotto controllo ed intercettazione per prevenire crimini e, originariamente, atti terroristici

Un classico riletto alla stessa stregua di “SHERLOCK”, pluripremiato adattamento contemporaneo dei romanzi di Sir Arthur Conan Doyle con l’ormai divo consacrato Benedict Cumberbatch. La 3° stagione inedita della serie vincitrice di ben 7 BAFTA Awards (gli Oscar inglesi) sarà su PREMIUM CRIME dal 5 aprile.

Così come sono ormai coppie d’indagine assodate quelle formate da Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) e Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) di “THE MENTALIST” (la 6° stagione inedita su PREMIUM CRIME dal 1 aprile) e da Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) e Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) in “RIZZOLI&ISLES” (4° stagione inedita su PREMIUM CRIME dal 26 febbraio). O il duo composto dalla protagonista di “NIKITA” (Maggie Q) e Michael (Shane West) nei complotti al centro della serie in onda con la 4° stagione inedita su PREMIUM ACTION ogni lunedì. La detective Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) di “MAJOR CRIMES” (la 2° stagione inedita su PREMIUM CRIME dal 6 marzo) deve invece vedersela con il fantasma di Brenda Johnson di “The Closer”, del quale la serie è spin-off.

Summary: Based on the Nick Hornsby novel and Hugh Grant film, a loutish bachelor (Walton) finds his priorities in life shifting after he befriends the awkward son (Benjamin Stockham) of his neighbor (Driver).
Pedigree: Parenthood's Jason Katims will write and executive-produce the comedy with originalBoy producers Robert DeNiro, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Jane Rosenthal. Jon Favreau will helm the pilot.
Why we like it: Walton (Perfect Couples, Bent) is perfectly cast as a man-child in this heartwarming comedy that makes us want to be a kid again.
Why it has a shot: It already has a built-in fan base, which will make NBC's job easier. Plus: The network is hot on Katims, after giving Parenthood a full 22-episode season.

Believe (NBC)
Starring: Jake McLaughlin, Kyle MacLachlan
Summary: An unlikely relationship develops between a young girl (Johnny Sequoyah) with a gift and a man (Jake McLaughlin) sprung from prison who has been tasked with protecting her from the evildoers who covet her power, among them Skouras (McLachlan), a mysterious billionaire.
Pedigree: Harry Potter's Alfonso Cuaron and The Forgotten's Mark Friedman will write and executive-produce the drama with Lost's J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.
Why we like it: The script was bursting with what will likely turn into visually stunning shots and effects at the hands of Cuaron.
Why it has a shot: The pedigree alone should be enough to land this drama a spot on the network's schedule, especially since Abrams' Bad Robot gave NBC its only bona fide hit last season with Revolution.

Beverly Hills Cop (CBS)
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Brandon T. Jackson, Christine Lahti
Summary: In a sorta-sequel to the movie franchise, the police officer son (Jackson) of Axel Foley (Murphy) patrols the rich and famous of Beverly Hills under the leadership of Lahti's Captain Chernick.
Pedigree: The Shield's Shawn Ryan will write and executive-produce the drama with Murphy.
Why we like it: Axel Foley's young son is just as hilarious — if not more so — than his legendary pops!
Why it has a shot: Even those who never saw the original films will be attracted to the lavish, gritty world of California's sunshine-noir. Plus: CBS isn't likely to pass up the opportunity to bring Murphy back to TV.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox)
Starring:, Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews
Summary: A group of detectives — including Samberg, Braugher and Crews — form an odd family in a police precinct in an outermost neighborhood of New York City.
Pedigree: Parks and Recreation's Mike Schur and Dan Goor will write and executive-produce the comedy with 30 Rock's David Miner.
Why we like it: Samberg, the former SNL goofball, has a chance to prove he can navigate both comedy and tragedy, bringing to mind Hill Street Blues and M*A*S*H.
Why it has a shot: Schur, Goor and Samberg all know comedy cold.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC)
Starring: Clark Gregg, Ming-Na
Summary: It's based on Marvel Universe's fictional and secret law-enforcement agency, Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate.
Pedigree: The Avengers' Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will write and executive-produce the drama.
Why we like it: An action-packed thrill ride that resurrects Agent Coulson (Gregg) and introduces Ming-Na as a steely new agent? Count us in!
Why it has a shot: The Avengers has grossed $1.5 billion worldwide. Need we say more? Fine, Whedon also brought Buffy, Angel and Firefly to our TV screens!

Mom (CBS)
Starring: Anna Faris, Allison Janney
Summary: A newly sober single mom (Faris) — who blames her own mother (Janney) for her issues — tries to pull her life together in Napa Valley.
Pedigree: Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre will write and executive-produce the comedy withMen's Eddie Gorodetsky.
Why we like it: True to form, Lorre doesn't skimp on the schadenfreude as Faris' hot mess Christy enables our own feelings of superiority.
Why it has a shot: It's doubtful CBS will say no to Lorre, who has given the network three hit series (Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly). Plus: The chemistry between Faris and Janney is sure to be undeniable.

Oxygen (The CW)
Starring: Aimee Teegarden, Matt Lanter
Summary: An epic romance ignites between a human girl (Teegarden) and an alien boy (Lanter) when he and eight others of his kind start attending high school in the suburbs.
Pedigree: The Good Wife's Meredith Averill will write and executive-produce the drama withMission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol producer Josh Appelbaum.
Why we like it: It feels like District 9-meets-Romeo and Juliet.
Why it has a shot: Sure, it's a Roswell-esque drama about aliens, but at its core, it's a high school love story — something at which The CW excels. Plus: 90210's Lanter and Friday Night Lights' Teegarden have valuable name recognition.

Rake (Fox)
Starring: Greg Kinnear, Miranda Otto
Summary: Kinnear stars as a brilliant, charming defense attorney whose biggest challenges existoutside the courtroom — he owes money to the IRS and a bookie, he's juggling overlapping affairs, and he has a cranky kid and an exhausted ex-wife (Otto).
Pedigree: Peter Duncan, creator of the original Australian series, and Rescue Me's Peter Tolan will write and executive-produce the drama.
Why we like it: It's not your typical legal series: Kinnear's character is at times more depraved than his clients, and watching his constant recalibration of his moral compass is intriguing.
Why it has a shot: Fox will likely want to repeat the success it had with bringing Kevin Bacon to TV in The Following by locking down Oscar nominee Kinnear. 

Super Fun Night (ABC)
Starring: Rebel Wilson
Summary: Kimmie (Wilson) and her two best friends (Lauren Ash and Liza Lapira) worry that their Friday-night tradition of staying home in their pajamas will be threatened when Kimmie gets a big promotion at her law firm and is invited to a party by the cute transfer from the London office (Kevin Bishop). It's time to take Super Fun Night on the road!
Pedigree: Wilson will write and executive-produce the comedy with Conan O'Brien and Conan'sJeff Ross.
Why we like it: As in all her roles, Wilson (Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect) dives head-first into Kimmie, who is both pathetic and endearing -- but mostly pathetic. And let's be honest, we all want to spend Friday night in our PJs. This way, we can do it vicariously with a sympathetic, hilarious heroine.
Why it has a shot: Fat Amy Wilson is among the hottest names in comedy right now; of courseABC wants to be in business with her.

Tomorrow People (The CW)
Starring: Peyton List, Robbie Amell (Arrow star Stephen Amell's cousin), Mark Pellegrino
Summary: Based on the U.K. series of the same name, it's the story of a group of young people from around the globe — List and Amell among them — who represent the next stage in human evolution and possess special powers like teleportation and telepathy. They work together to defeat the forces of evil. Genre stable Pellegrino (Lost, Revolution, Supernatural) plays the villain.
Pedigree: Chuck's Phil Klemmer will write and executive-produce with The Vampire Diaries' Julie Plec and Arrow's Greg Berlanti.
Why we like it: It's the promise that Heroes never quite fulfilled, combined with the CW's special talent for eye candy. Plus: What a great companion show for Arrow.
Why it has a shot: Ordering People to series would expand the network's relationship with Plec and Berlanti, two of the network's most valuable players.
