Baywatch has faced a tsunami of middling to bad reviews, but that won’t stop the comedy-action movie from jetting forward to a sequel, and possibly, a franchise. Producers and writers are already planning a sequel to Baywatch with the cast, led Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, returning in their roles. Baywatch itself is a big-screen reboot of the popular ’90s TV show starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, and a sequel would somewhat follow the footsteps of the successful movie reboot of 21 Jump Street. Though, according to reviews, that’s the only thing they have in common. Baywatch producer Beau Flynn told Variety that he and writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who co-wrote the script for the first movie, have a rudimentary plan for Baywatch 2.

“We have an amazing story already. We’re bringing back Shannon and Swift who wrote on the first one, and I know Dwayne would be in, I know Zac and all the girls would be. We just have this really cool idea to put them in this whole new world. We would take it overseas.”

The “girls” in the cast that he mentions are Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach, and other cast members include Jon Bass and Ilfenesh Hadera. They all seem game for another lap at the Baywatch pool, according to Variety.

Rohrbach, who made her feature film debut in Baywatch and takes over Pamela Anderson’s role from the original series, was especially excited.

“Of course! I couldn’t have asked for a better cast on my first film. These guys are awesome. They’re hilarious, they’re loving, they’re generous. We really were a family and I think that comes though on the screen, as well.”   Daddario agreed, adding: “Yes! I would love to. I think it’s very cool to be part of a franchise, and I think it helps get other work. It’s fun. You get to travel the world and work with these amazing people, and you get to make people laugh, so I’m completely down for it.”

Chopra is the villain of the film so it seems unlikely she’ll return for the second. And what of Johnson and Efron? Well, Johnson is this movie’s most dedicated hype man, and is one of the driving forces behind the movie making it to the big screen, acting as the lead star and producer. With Johnson at the forefront of other massive blockbusters like Fast and Furious, the upcoming Jumanji, and solo supervillain movie Black Adam, the world’s best paid actor would have his hands full. But he would probably sign on for a sequel anyway.

Even before the premiere of Spectre in November, rumors were swirling about who might be the next person to play 007 — or one of the spy’s many love interests. One of the names that’s been bandied about is Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, but in a new interview with Complex for the magazine’s latest cover story, she revealed that she has no interest in being considered for a role as a Bond girl.
“I get that all the time,” she told Complex. “But f— that — I wanna be Bond.”
In the wide-ranging interview, Chopra also said that she’s excited for her part in the upcoming Baywatch movie, adding that her role as the bad guy was originally written for a man.
Chopra stars as the icy Victoria Leeds in Baywatch (out May 19, 2017) alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, and earlier this year, Chopra spoke to EW about her villainous ambitions on the Oscars red carpet. “I wanted to play a bad guy for a really long time,” she said at the time. “And I’m doing that in Baywatch, so I’m excited.”

With Baywatch set to hit the big screen one year from today (May 19, 2017),  Paramount Pictures has today released a special Baywatch postcard that offers a look at the film’s cast. From left to right, the Baywatch team includes Jon Bass, Alexandra Daddario, Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera. Check out the full version of the Baywatch postcard in the gallery viewer below!
Also starring Priyanka Chopra and Hannibal Buress, Baywatch offers a big-screen take on the television series that originally premiered on NBC in 1989. The original Baywatch cast included David Hasselhoff, Parker Stevenson, Shawn Weatherly, Billy Warlock, Erika Eleniak, Peter Phelps, Brandon Call and Holly Gagnier. The series was initially not a success and was cancelled after a single season. Plans were made, however, to move Baywatch into first-run syndication and, in 1991, Baywatch returned to the airwaves where it continued for a full decade, bringing in new cast members like Yasmine Bleeth and Pamela Anderson. The show also received a short-lived spinoff, Baywatch Hawaii.

Although several writers have been attached to the Baywatch movie, the most recent draft hails from the Friday the 13th pair of Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon is helming the new Baywatch film, which is being produced by Dwayne Jonson alongside Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Ivan Reitman and Douglas Schwartz.

If you’re actually going to portray a lifeguard, there’s a lot going on—how you enter the water, how you get to a victim…You gotta be legit or you’re gonna look like crap on TV,” David added. “I’m sure he’s struggling because I trained for like three months before we started filming with a real lifeguard, Mike Newman. He kicked my butt. It was hard. The water’s freezing, you’re running in in your shorts, and you’re spending a lot of time in the water, and the waves, you kinda get used to it.”

Priyanka Chopra might be heading to the beach. The breakout lead of Quantico is negotiating to join Baywatch, led by Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, industry sources confirm. The star of the ABC procedural would be the latest in a torrent of casting decisions. Paramount’s big-screen remake of the ’90s TV drama last week added Kelly Rohrbach as C.J. Parker, the character originally played by Pamela Anderson. Alexandra Daddario reunited with San Andreas costar Johnson when she dove in last November. Information on the project is under wraps, but the plot reportedly centers around an elite squad of lifeguards, led by Johnson, who must team up with a former Olympian and hothead (Efron) to protect their bay; Chopra reportedly would play the villain. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) will direct. Quantico marks a U.S. breakout performance for Chopra, the first South Asian woman to headline a network series; the 33-year-old is one of Bollywood’s premier stars.
