When Hannibal ended on an all too literal cliffhanger at the end of its third season, fans never quite gave up hope that Mads Mikkelson’s Hannibal Lector and Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham would return to their screens again eventually. As is the case with most of Fuller’s shows, it was cut unceremoniously short, and the devoted group of supporters — in this case “Fannibals” — have continued to obsess over the details long after it was gone. Hannibal was breathtaking, violent, and cerebral, and a true rarity on network television.
Well, showrunner Bryan Fuller is here to put a little bit of wind in your sails. The American Gods mastermind recently sat down with Shock Waves podcast to discuss what could still be for the cult show. At the very least, he clarifies whether or not our leads would survive that fall.
“There weren’t going to be any bodies found floating in that lagoon. And the whole point of showing Gillian Anderson sitting at a table with two additional place settings and her leg on the table was there was a big splash and dinner guests are coming.”
According to Fuller, he would like to tackle Silence Of The Lambs in a potential fourth season, and the rights for that novel revert back in August of 2017. Still, Fuller makes it clear that this is not an attempt to “fix” the film, but merely an opportunity to expand.
“I think the film adaptation is a perfect film, but there’s a lot of interesting nooks and crannies to explore in a television series. I hope we get to tell the story.”
Fuller explains that a “6 to 8 episode miniseries here and there” would be ideal for the cast and creative team, which sounds perfect to me. The show’s entire run is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, so how about throwing some money at them as penance for cancelling Good Girls Revolt?

NEWS - Achtung, compagni!

You might know Zach Braff from that movie where Alfred the Butler, God, and Argo F*ck Yourself rob a bank, or that other film where Natalie Portman is the president of the Shins’ fan club, but he also starred on this show called Scrubs that people seem to like. The medical-comedy ran for nine seasons — the last two of which aren’t as strong as the first seven, but they did introduce us to Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings) and Kerry Bishé (Halt and Catch Fire), for which I’m forever thankful — but because no show is truly “over,” not when Fuller House is a thing that exists, Braff isn’t saying no to a reunion. During a recent question-and-answer session with fans on Twitter, via the Huffington Post, Braff said, “You never know about making more Scrubs episodes, it’s something we all talk about, especially now that all these people are going back and doing Netflix versions of their shows. I am very jealous of all this Gilmore Girls attention and Full House.” He added, “We talk about it every now and then. So you never know, it could happen. I’d do it.”

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is bringing his high-tech hijinks to a classic sci-fi property with a TV miniseries adaptation of the iconic 1927 film Metropolis. THR reports that the writer-director is in early development on the TV retelling of Fritz Lang‘s revered film, which centered on a pair of star-crossed lovers in a classist futuristic society.
Esmail is prepping the series with Universal Cable Productions (where he has an overall deal), where he will Executive Produce alongside Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton. Esmail’s exact role in the miniseries is still being negotiated. Should Esmail want to keep his attention focused on Mr. Robot (he single-handedly wrote and directed every episode of the critical darling’s second season), he’ll have the time. The report states that UCP’s current plan is to launch the Metropolis miniseries in two to three years, which would give him time to conclude Mr. Robot‘s planned four to five season run.
Despite its current status as one of the most celebrated silent films of all time,Lang’s Metropolis was critically panned when it first arrived in theaters. At the time of release, the German film was one of the most expensive movies ever made thanks to its epic scope and groundbreaking visual effects. That precedent certainly conjures up all kinds of exciting possibilities for Esmail’s take on the material considering how far visual effects have come in the near-100 years since the film’s release, and I’m excited to see how much Esmail will harken back to Lang’s visionary aesthetic and how he will integrate it into a new vision of a futuristic society. Whatever he envisions, he’ll have the budget, as UCP is reportedly willing to throw down $10 million an episode.
Whatever he envisions, he’ll have the budget, as UCP is reportedly willing to throw down $10 million an episode. While the studio usually prioritizes NBCUniversal owned networks (of which Mr. Robot’s home network USA is one), but Metropolis comes with no in-house mandate and will likely be shopped around to other cable and streaming networks. Wherever it lands, it’s exciting that Esmail and his team are getting the time and budget to truly craft the series into something special.
As for the story, the plan is to keep it the same. Per THR’s report,
Like the original film, the small-screen adaptation will take place in a future society where wealthy industrialists rule the vast city from high-rise tower complexes, while a lower class of underground-dwelling workers toil constantly to operate the machines that provide its power. Risking everything they know, two star crossed lovers from opposite sides of the divide must find a way to bring down the whole system.
However, the main story focus right now is figuring out how to adapt the film into an episodic format. The writer’s room will reportedly be very small, with only two or three scribes in the mix who currently more focused on cracking the concept than breaking scripts.
Esmail is currently in production on Mr. Robot Season 3, which is slated to return to USA in 2017.

NEWS - Tutti a casa! Sony produrrà i reboot dei cult di Norman Lear "I Jefferson", "Arcibaldo", "Maude" e "Good Times"

News tratta da "Variety"

Sony Pictures Television is in
very early stages of rebooting
several classic sitcoms from TV
legend Norman Lear as
miniseries — including
All in the Family,” “The
Jeffersons,” and “Good Times
Variety has learned
exclusively. The idea currently
being discussed by Lear and
Sony executives would be to
have new actors recreate
classic episodes of the shows,
working from the original scripts, and package them as short,
six-episode anthologies.
The scripts would be
treated similar to plays
being mounted in new productions.
“There is some talk about doing some of the
original shows, redoing them with today’s stars,”
Lear told Variety. “There is a possibility that
we’ll do ‘All in the Family,’ ‘Maude,’
The Jeffersons,’ “Good Times.'”
Discussions about remaking more of Lear’s
catalogue come as Sony gears up for the premiere of the new
One Day at a Time,” which re-imagines Lear’s ’80s sitcom
about a single mother raising two children. The new series,
which premieres on Netflix Jan. 6, focuses on a Latino family with
a female Army veteran at its center. Lear serves as executive
producer on the new “One Day at a Time,”
with original scripts coming from the show’s writing staff and
showrunners Gloria Calderon-Kellett and Mike Royce, with
contributions from Lear.

Sony has been in discussions with Lear about the miniseries-reboot
concept since before development began on “One Day at a Time.”
That series was developed specifically for Netflix, and was never
shopped to other buyers. No network or streaming service is yet
attached to the miniseries projects.
The miniseries project is a separate idea from the possible
“All in the Family” reboot that Lear discussed two years ago at a
Paley Center event, which would have seen the show revived with
new characters, possibly Latino. That idea was set aside in favor
of the new “One Day at a Time.”

“We’re exploring it,” Glenn Adilman, executive vice president
of comedy development for Sony toldVariety. “It’s sort of tricky to
figure out what the business of that is and what that would be and
how it would work. But its something we’re trying to figure out.”
Adilman added, “It’s tricky for a lot of reasons, and it’s something
we’re exploring.”
Sony controls most of Lear’s TV library through its 1985
acquisition of the producer’s Embassy Communications.

L'EDICOLA DI LOU - Stralci, cover e commenti sui telefilm dai media italiani e stranieri
