GOSSIP - Kerry Washington su "Marie Claire" svela chi siano i suoi due "maestri"
Kerry Washington is on the cover of Marie Claire magazine’s November “Power” 2018 issue, on newsstands October 18.
Here’s what the Scandal star and American Son Broadway actress had to share with the mag…
On her family: “The last time I did theater, it completely transformed my life. That’s where I met my husband [Nnamdi Asomugha]. I love being with my family. My days off look like homework, reading and watching stuff. Just hanging out, doing things we love to do.”
On learning from her children, Isabelle, 4, and Caleb, 2,: “My children are my teachers. We get sent by God the kids we need so we can grow in order to be the parents they need us to be. The children I got sent came in perfect, and I have to figure out how to grow and evolve so that I can support the truth of them. I’m in a constant state of learning and challenging myself to make room for their perfection and beauty.”
On her work with Times Up: “Our priority has been to not reinvent the wheel, to not feel like, ‘Oh we’re going to come in and do what nobody has been able to do,’ but rather to acknowledge that there are so many communities of powerful women committed to advocacy, and our job is to leverage whatever power we have to support that work, grow that work, shed light on that work.”

NEWS - Clamoroso al Cibali! Originariamente Olivia Pope di "Scandal" doveva essere bianca e interpretata da Connie Britton!

News tratta da "Vulture"
Before Kerry Washington donned Olivia Pope’s white hat, ABC pushed for Connie Britton to be Washington D.C.’s leading fixer. In an oral history gathered by The Hollywood Reporter, Shonda Rhimes recalled Scandal’s most important casting decision: picking Pope. Rhimes said she felt certain that Olivia was a black woman, especially since the character was inspired by real-life D.C. crisis fixer Judy Smith. “Nothing felt more important than the sense of outsiderness,” Rhimes said. “I didn’t know that there hadn’t been a drama series with a leading black woman for 37 years. When the show got picked up [to pilot], I got a phone call from somebody who said, ‘This would be the perfect show for Connie Britton.’ I said, ‘It would be, except Olivia Pope is black.’” ABC also suggested Britton: “The network was reading us their top choices,” casting director Linda Lowey said, “and it was Connie and all white women. I panicked. Somebody finally piped up, ‘We’re going to have to redo this list.’” After auditioning Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose, they hired Kerry Washington. The rest is history, but Washington agreed that the Nashville star would have been a sensible choice: “This would have been a great role for Connie Britton!” she said.

NEWS - Regina Sofia!

Sofia Vergara is the reigning queen of television.
The “Modern Family” star is the world’s highest-paid TV actress for the fifth year in a row, according to Forbes. With $43 million (before management fees and taxes), her salary is almost $20 million more than that of runner-up Kaley Cuoco, who earned $24.5 million. Unlike the list of film stars, she makes more than her male counterparts.

Aside from the hit ABC sitcom, Vergara can also thank a handful of lucrative product endorsements (from Head and Shoulders to Ninja Coffee Bar to Careisma Scrubs — a line of medical scrubs) for the 66% spike in earnings over the previous year.

Cuoco, who stars in “The Big Bang Theory,” tied with Vergara on last year’s Forbes list, when both actresses netted $28.5 million. Unlike the Colombian actress, Cuoco’s haul is based almost solely from her pay as Penny on the CBS comedy, for which she commands $1 million per episode. Like Vergara, Cuoco and her TV ensemble costars negotiated their salaries together, making the gender wage gap on TV narrower than on film.
Mindy Kaling is the biggest climber on this year’s ranking, rising from eighth to third place with $15 million, between June 2015 and June 2016.
Quantico’s” Priyanka Chopra cracked the list for the first time, coming in eighth with $11 million. The Bollywood star can also soon be seen on the Hollywood big screen alongside Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest-paid actor, in the “Baywatch” movie.
Mariska Hargitay and Ellen Pompeo rounded out the top five, while Kerry Washington, Stana Katic, Julianna Margulies, and Vergara’s “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen made this year’s top 10. The 15 highest-paid stars commanded a combined $208.5 million — $43.5 more than last year’s total of $165 million.

Her’s the full list of TV’s highest-paid actresses:
1. Sofia Vergara — $43 million
2. Kaley Cuoco — $24.5 million
3. Mindy Kaling — $15 million
4. Ellen Pompeo — $14.5 million (tie)
5. Mariska Hargitay — $14.5 million (tie)
6. Kerry Washington — $13.5 million
7. Stana Katic — $12 million
8. Priyanka Chopra — $11 million
9. Julianna Margulies — $10.5 million

GOSSIP - "Scandal" in copertina! La Washington furiosa per i ritocchi di "Adweek" sulla cover che la rendono irriconoscibile: "ormai siamo una società di ritoccatori di foto!"
Kerry Washington is speaking out after she was photoshopped on the cover of Adweek‘s latest issue to a point where she was unrecognizable.
“So…You know me. I’m not one to be quiet about a magazine cover. I always celebrate it when a respected publication invites me to grace their pages. It’s an honor. And a privilege. And ADWEEK is no exception,” the 39-year-old Scandal actress wrote on Instagram. “I love ADWEEK. It’s a publication I appreciate. And learn from. I’ve long followed them on Twitter. And when they invited me to do a cover, I was excited and thrilled. And the truth is, I’m still excited.”
“I’m proud of the article. And I like some of the inside images a great deal. But, I have to be honest…I was taken aback by the cover,” Kerry added. “Look, I’m no stranger to Photoshopping. It happens a lot. In a way, we have become a society of picture adjusters – who doesn’t love a filter?!? And I don’t always take these adjustments to task but I have had the opportunity to address the impact of my altered image in the past and I think it’s a valuable conversation.”
“Yesterday, however, I just felt weary. It felt strange to look at a picture of myself that is so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror. It’s an unfortunate feeling,” she continued.
“That being said. You all have been very kind and supportive. Also, as I’ve said, I’m very proud of the article.”
“There are a few things we discussed in the interview that were left out. Things that are important to me (like: the importance of strong professional support and my awesome professional team) and I’ve been thinking about how to discuss those things with anyone who is interested, in an alternate forum. But until then… Grab this week’s ADWEEK. Read it. I hope you enjoy it. And thank you for being patient with me while I figured out how to post this in a way that felt both celebratory and honest. XOXOXOX.”
James Cooper, the editorial director of Adweek, released a statement saying: “Kerry Washington is a class act . We are honored to have her grace our pages. To clarify, we made minimal adjustments, solely for the cover’s design needs. We meant no disrespect, quite the opposite. We are glad she is enthusiastic about the piece and appreciate her honest comments.”

GOSSIP - Keep mom and Kerry on! La Washington su "Elle": "Scandal mi ha aiutata nella maternità"
Kerry Washington looks so sultry on the cover of Elle magazine’s April 2016 issue, on newsstands. Here’s what the 39-year-old Scandal star had to share with the mag:
On speaking for what she believes in: “I’m a person who’s always been politically active and passionate about people’s rights. I marched against the [2004] Republican Convention. And as my career has expanded, it’s been important for me to not stifle that voice. Because you want to be popular, you want people to hire you, and I have to make sure I don’t do it less because I’m an actor.”
On how playing Olivia Pope helped her with motherhood: “Even though Olivia Pope has obviously made the decision that she is not a mom…playing her made me feel like I could be a mom. Because she knows there’s always another way—there’s always a way to fix it, there’s always a way to solve it, to win. And I feel like playing her made me feel like, All right, I can do it. I will figure out how to juggle it all.”
On her mentor/boss Shonda Rhimes: “She’s been such an amazing resource, as a mom, and as a working mom…I am on one show and I have one kid, and she has three shows and three kids.”

L'EDICOLA DI LOU - Shonda su onda! "EW" dedica ben 4 cover alle "creature" della Rhimes...
Shonda Rhimes and her leading ladies, Kerry Washington, Ellen Pompeo, and Viola Davis take the cover of EW‘s latest issue!
There are four separate covers highlighting Shonda‘s hit ABC shows Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, and Scandal. Here’s what the cast had to share about their shows:
Ellen, on the sexist response to McDreamy: “All of a sudden, Patrick [Dempsey] leaves, and it’s like, Oh my God, Meredith’s gonna get killed with Alzheimer’s! The show couldn’t possibly go on without the man!”
Viola, on colorism in the entertainment industry: “You have to come from Detroit or Atlanta to be black. If you have John Denver on your iPod and you come from Central Falls, Rhode Island, then: Eh, you trickle-down black woman.”
Kerry, on why it’s different to work for a female showrunner: “I was talking to an actress who’s pregnant and really worried about telling her bosses, and I said, ‘Yeah, when I told my boss I was pregnant, she literally jumped up and down in my trailer.’ I don’t know if there’s a male showrunner who would do that.”

GOSSIP - Keep tonic and Kerry on! La Washington conquista pure la cover di "Self" (ormai le mancano solo quelle di "Sale e pepe" e "Hustler"...)

Kerry Washington wakes up early. I learn this when her publicist emails to ask if I’d like to do pilates with the actress at 6:30 a.m. before we sit down for our interview. A cursory Google search of Washington suggests I’m in trouble: This is, after all, a woman who moved to India after college and became certified as a yoga instructor. But my fear of pilates-induced humiliation is outweighed by my desire to watch Olivia Pope work out.
Washington, 38, arrives in sweats, with no makeup and no entourage, looking infinitely more relaxed than the character she plays on television. She’s a new mother with a hit show, but her face betrays none of the stress that must entail. Instead, her skin glows, her smile is bright, her eyes somehow managing to convey warmth, strength and vulnerability all at once.
“Hi, I’m Kerry,” she says, extending her hand to meet mine. We are on the Scandal set in Hollywood, standing in a dressing room that has been converted into a small gym for the actress. The space houses a pilates machine, blocks, resistance bands and a smattering of free weights. Washington’s trainer, Julie Turner, arrives, and they begin a quick exchange about the day’s workout; their shorthand has been honed by two to six pilates sessions a week for the past five years.
Though she and the other Scandal actresses have made regular hikes around Los Angeles a group ritual, pilates is Washington’s anchor. “There are a lot of forms of exercise where you have to leave yourself out of the room while you force yourself to do this thing,” she explains. “With pilates, I get to bring my true self. I cry, I laugh. I get to go: Where is my body today? What do I need today? How can I take care of myself and push myself past my comfort zone? How can I be both loving and challenging?”

GOSSIP - Keep Glamour and Kerry on! La Washington di "Scandal" da cover...
Kerry Washington makes looking good, look easy -- which is why she recently landed at the top of Vanity Fair's Best-Dressed List and now on the cover of Glamour's October 2013 issue.
However, the 36-year-old star revealed to the glossy that fashion used to be an afterthought before she took some time to fine tune her sartorial skills and develop "Red-Carpet Kerry." Well, she could have fooled us.
And speaking of skills, Kerry might not be the crisis management pro she so superbly plays on "Scandal," but she can definitely impart some sage advice on the fly. In a behind-the-scenes video from Glamour's cover shoot, the glossy gets Kerry to field some pressing issues sent in by readers.

And here's a look at Kerry's Glamour cover and one of our favorite photos from her feature. Head over to Glamour.com to see more!

GOSSIP - Una First lady come amica! Sarah Jessica Parker e Kerry Washington si spintonano per essere al fianco di Michelle Obama sulla cover di "Glamour"
Kerry Washington, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the First Lady Michelle Obama share the cover of Glamour magazine’s May 2015 issue, on newsstands April 14.
Here’s what the ladies had to share:
Kerry, on diminishing the stigma of mental health: “I think it’s really important to take the stigma away from mental health…. My brain and my heart are really important to me. I don’t know why I wouldn’t seek help to have those things be as healthy as my teeth. I go to the dentist. So why wouldn’t I go to a shrink?”
Sarah Jessica, on the issues female veterans face: “I feel like there’s a laundry list of issues they face…. Being a working mother, serving, returning from Iraq or Afghanistan—I almost don’t know where to begin…. And I feel intimidated by their service; I feel ashamed that I haven’t served. So I almost feel like I’m patronizing by inquiring how to help. When you see a serviceman or -woman, you always—I always—say, ‘Thank you for your service.’ But you know that’s not enough…. What do we do? Every community has a community of veterans. Where do we begin?”
First Lady Obama, on the importance of asking for help: “I never try to come close to comparing my life to these women’s lives. But, if you think about it, when you [have] a spouse who travels or is away a lot, women do adapt…. The challenge is when the missing spouse comes back and they’re trying to reintegrate into a well-oiled machine…. How do you let yourself become vulnerable when you don’t know when that call will come, and they’ve got to [go away again]?… And many of these women are young. When I was going through this [when President Obama got into politics], I was in my thirties, I had my career, and I had family with me. I [try to] put myself in the place of some of these young women—maybe they’re in their twenties, they have their third kid, they’re not established in their careers, they’re miles away from their family—and imagine the stresses. So my advice is, ask for help. Keep asking. Because that’s the only way I survived. My women friends—how we get through is we reach out.”

NEWS - Keep calm and Kerry on! La Washington di "Scandal" dalla cover di "Marie Claire": "con Shonda Rhimes ballo il valzer e conduce lei!"
Kerry Washington is pure elegance in white on the cover of Marie Claire magazine’s April 2015 issue, out on newsstands on March 24!
Here’s what the 38-year-old actress had to share with the mag:
On privacy: “Earlier in my career, I was much more super-sharey. There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn’t have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they’re in and you don’t get to say, ‘Oh, I want this for myself.’”
On fashion: “I just put myself in a boot camp of figuring it out—and realized that I really loved it. I guess because I came to it later in life, I realized, ‘Oh, going to a fashion show is like going to the opening of Degas at the Met or going to see Swan Lake.’”
On collaborating with Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes: “I’m very respectful of Shonda’s vision of who Olivia [Pope] is, but she has said that she is informed by the choices I make. If we were waltzing, she’s definitely leading. And she picked the song, and she probably dressed us, but it is a waltz.”

GOSSIP - Che...Scandal! Kerry Washington sulla cover di "In Style" schiarita alla Michael Jackson! E' il Photoshop, bellezza...

Does Kerry Washington's latest magazine cover, on InStyle's March issue, make her look too light?
Once again, social media lit up Thursday with another controversy over the intersection of beauty, race and Photoshopping in the media, with Scandal star Washington as the latest case-in-point.
The new cover has her brightly lit in a white, shoulder-baring dress, hands on hips, her hair fan-swept in that new artfully disheveled long-bob style.
Does her skin tone look lighter than she really is? Maybe it depends on your perspective.
Not that she was perturbed. She was "THRILLED" with the photo, she said on Instagram. "So honored. And crazy excited," she added.
But some of her fans were not.
"I get that you're happy to be on the cover of @InStyleMagazine ... but WHO IN THE HECK is on this cover? #Scandal #Photoshop#BadPhotoshop," posted isthatkeyon under the photo.
"dang. why'd they do that? you don't need photoshop," added tamhasty.
InStyle was quick to respond with a statement denying that Washington's skin was deliberately lightened.
"While we did not digitally lighten Kerry's skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern. We understand that this has resulted in disappointment and hurt. We are listening, and the feedback has been valuable. We are committed to ensuring that this experience has a positive influence on the ways in which we present all women going forward," the magazine said, according to the Associated Press.
Washington approved and tweeted her thanks:
These cover contretemps are not new, not even for Washington. Lucky magazine was accused of manipulating Washington's image for a December/January cover in 2013 that some fans also declared unrecognizable.

sabato 19 aprile 2014

Scandal returns on Thursday with the second half of its third season, and fans can't contain their excitement. But it seems some people would rather the #Gladiators stay quiet.
The show is often disparaged unjustly — people call it a soap opera because of its melodramatic plot. But they have no idea what they're talking about, because it's one of the smartest, most progressive shows on TV: The show may be gripping, but it's actually incredibly advanced in its representations of diversity.
To celebrate Olivia, Fitz and Darby Stanchfield's mole, here are seven ways Scandal has improved TV way more than the haters let on:

1. It makes sexuality an afterthought.

Cyrus Beane is a lot of things — the White House Chief of Staff, a workaholic and the guy you call when you need to clean up a murder. He's also gay, but that's not the point. His sexuality gets less attention than his day job, and the show's choice to treat it as an aside is incredibly progressive.
Creator Shonda Rhimes has said that the character's marital choice wasn't part of her original plan, which may explain why Cyrus' marital issues are never related to him being gay — they're related to him being a total jerk. Now that's equality.

2. It treats race like an afterthought, too.
Similar to Cyrus' sexual preference, Olivia Pope's race is essentially a non-issue. When other characters talk about Olivia, they dissect her professional skills and gossip-worthy love life — not her skin color. The New Yorker calls Scandal a "post-racial fantasy," and that's a good thing.

3. It features feminists of all shapes and sizes.

Hollywood is slowly starting to understand that "feminist" is not a dirty word, but Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes has known that for quite some time.
Rhimes' female characters speckle the map. They range from career women in love with married men to pro-life Republicans who kill their husbands. Though the validity of either camp's feminism is up for debate, Scandal relies on shades of gray in its portrayal of strong female characters. Their gender is treated as neutral, and their actions prove that seeking out a corporate position, a higher political rank or an orgasm doesn't make you any less of a feminist than shaving your armpits.

4. It doesn't take rape lightly.
Season three is Scandal's craziest plot-wise, and one of its most traumatic moments involves First Lady Mellie's rape. The scene is gut-wrenching, but the morning after the assault, she makes the conscious decision to keep the events to herself. Critics claim that the show followed trends of using sexual assault and silent victims as plot devices and easy exits, but its authenticity in portraying these brutal events is worth praising — her silence is only another level of pain that isn't overlooked — it's impossible to forget.

5. It let Lisa Kudrow rip American sexism to shreds.
Leave it to Phoebe to tell it like it is. Lisa Kudrow only joined Scandal for a few episodes to play senator Josephine Marcus, but one of them happened to contain the show's most memorable monologue — an astute feminist tirade about how Americans tend to "speak in code" about gender. Kudrow's delivery is fantastic, but it's Kerry Washington's glance of agreement during the speech that makes this moment stick. Teamwork feminism is the best feminism.

6. It rocks the female anti-hero
Breaking Bad and House of Cards set Americans on a bad guy binge, but bad girls are a trickier genre to crack. Olivia Pope does it by misleading us. We're told every few episodes that she "wears the white hat," but she's rigged elections, denied information that could have saved a mother's life and had an on-going affair. It's not gender stereotypes that mask Olivia's dark side — Rhimes described Scandal's characters as "monsters running around in human skin," and it's their ethical shortcomings that make it easy to forget Olivia's. But Olivia Pope still leads her gladiators — let's not forget what "gladiator" means.

7. It mocks everything that's wrong with American politics.
It's easy to focus on the long looks shared by star-crossed lovers, but much of Scandal is sneakily satire. The government hardly governs — only once have foreign affairs made their way into the plot line. And, of course, POTUS's affair with Pope gives a whole new meaning to "domestic affairs."
Though Fitz has a party affiliation and charisma, he has done little in terms of policy. The NSA drama is not a matter of national security, but selfish image-control. When terrorist attacks and murders are concealed with a flick of the wrist, it's easy to dismiss the show as "lazy," but the critique implied in Rhimes' vision reminds us that our government is seriously flawed. Scandal's government is more of a PR agency than a governing body.
It's hyperbole, sure. But it's not wrong, and it's only one of the many ways that this show is far smarter than critics let on.
