Like galactically minded father, like son: Eugene Wesley “Rod” Roddenberry Jr. has signed on to executive-produce CBS’ Star Trek reboot, TVLine has learned.Roddenberry Jr., president of Roddenberry Entertainment, will join fellow EPs Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin and showrunner Bryan Fuller for the Eye Network’s new take on his father’s classic space-exploration series.
Star Trek will launch on CBS in early 2017; subsequent episodes will then be available exclusively on CBS All Access, the network’s on-demand and live streaming service.
Roddenberry Entertainment chief operating officer Trevor Roth also has boarded the series as an executive producer.
“Gene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy, left a finely feathered nest for all who love ‘Star Trek’ to enjoy,” Fuller said in a statement. “And it is only fitting that Rod Roddenberry and Roddenberry
Entertainment join our new Trek adventure to ensure that his father’s legacy of hope for the future and infinite diversity in infinite combinations runs through our tales as Gene Roddenberry intended.”
Roddenberry Jr. voiced his excitement about the series via statement, as well. “Moral dilemmas, human issues, complex characters and a genuine sense of optimism: These are the cornerstones of Star Trek and are what have made it such an influential and beloved franchise for the last 50 years.” He added: “While I will always be humbled by its legacy and the legions of fans who are its guardians, it’s a genuine honor to be joining a team of imaginative and incredibly capable individuals whose endeavor it is to uphold the tenets of Star Trek’s legacy while bringing it to audiences in a new era and on a contemporary platform.”

NEWS - Fermate l'Enterprise, voglio scendere! William Shatner vuole far diventare "Star Trek" un musical!
News tratta da "Uproxx"+"The Guardian"
If there is any human being who is fully aware that Star Trek and pop music do not mix, it should be William Shatner. But either greed or simple boredom has overwhelmed Sbat er, so he’s trying to get a Star Trek musical off the ground for the 50th anniversary.
The good news, as Shatner notes to The Guardian, is that so far nobody’s bitten. But one fears it’s only a matter of time:
I’ve been actively trying to do a 50th anniversary show … We had a big company say: ‘What about a musical or a music variety show?’ That got some traction – but nothing’s come of it yet.
While some of Star Trek‘s past crew members are more than capable of a song and dance, in most cases, Star Trek‘s brushes with the pop music end of things do not go well. It was a trend that started when Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics to collect royalties off the theme song and has painfully continued ever since. We’ll be lucky if we get a song as catchy as I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper. That said, if Shatner put together a musical revue where you performed your classic album Has Been with the original musicians, we’d be there opening night. Seriously, tell us you don’t want to see this cover of Common People live.

PICCOLO GRANDE SCHERMO - Star dentro o Star Trek? JJ Abrams si teletrasporta fuori dall'Enterprise?

Articolo di Devin Faraci per "BadAss Digest"
Excellent sources have revealed to me that the new writers for Star Trek 3 have been found, and as expected Bad Robot is hiring from within the ranks of past collaborators. Continuing with the first two films' tradition of having writing teams, the script for Trek 3 will be written by duo Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. You know them as the guys who wrote the first Thor and who have a writing credit on X-Men: First Class. They also worked as writers and producers on Fringe, making them part of the Bad Robot family. They also have some Gene Roddenberry experience thanks to their work on the schlocky TV show Andromeda.
Don't get too excited about certain writers taking their hands off the property - Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci are still on as writers. I heard that they were instrumental in making the decision about going after Stentz and Miller. What their day-to-day involvement moving forward will be I couldn't say.
Keep in mind this isn't a done deal, so it's possible that someone else could end up getting the gig. And there's no guarantee they're the final writers on the project. But as of right now it's Stentz and Miller's job to lose. And since Paramount wants this movie out in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, expect work to begin on it ASAP.
Speaking of losing jobs... why is it that I keep hearing tons of rumors that JJ Abrams is on the verge of dropping out of Star Wars? This has been something I've heard for a while now, and from multiple insiders. I know that he didn't want to shoot the movie in England and was overruled, but that happened a while ago. This weekend at Comic Con I continued to hear these whispers. No director for Trek 3 has been found yet - might Abrams end up coming back after all, leaving Star Wars to someone else? I'm expecting Star Wars news out of the German Star Wars Celebration at the end of the month - if there is some sort of announcement of a title or casting and Abrams isn't there, start wondering.
UPDATE: I just want to make it clear that I never said Abrams is leaving. I'm just saying that I have heard rumors from MANY sources that he's been considering/threatening it. Other web types have heard the same. We've all been hearing it for MONTHS. There have been a lot of other sites that have been running with this part of the story as if it's in stone, and it isn't even close.

NEWS - Che Fantasy!
