Sofia Vergara is the reigning queen of television.
The “Modern Family” star is the world’s highest-paid TV actress for the fifth year in a row, according to Forbes. With $43 million (before management fees and taxes), her salary is almost $20 million more than that of runner-up Kaley Cuoco, who earned $24.5 million. Unlike the list of film stars, she makes more than her male counterparts.

Aside from the hit ABC sitcom, Vergara can also thank a handful of lucrative product endorsements (from Head and Shoulders to Ninja Coffee Bar to Careisma Scrubs — a line of medical scrubs) for the 66% spike in earnings over the previous year.

Cuoco, who stars in “The Big Bang Theory,” tied with Vergara on last year’s Forbes list, when both actresses netted $28.5 million. Unlike the Colombian actress, Cuoco’s haul is based almost solely from her pay as Penny on the CBS comedy, for which she commands $1 million per episode. Like Vergara, Cuoco and her TV ensemble costars negotiated their salaries together, making the gender wage gap on TV narrower than on film.
Mindy Kaling is the biggest climber on this year’s ranking, rising from eighth to third place with $15 million, between June 2015 and June 2016.
“Quantico’s” Priyanka Chopra cracked the list for the first time, coming in eighth with $11 million. The Bollywood star can also soon be seen on the Hollywood big screen alongside Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest-paid actor, in the “Baywatch” movie.
Mariska Hargitay and Ellen Pompeo rounded out the top five, while Kerry Washington, Stana Katic, Julianna Margulies, and Vergara’s “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen made this year’s top 10. The 15 highest-paid stars commanded a combined $208.5 million — $43.5 more than last year’s total of $165 million.

On having children with Joe: “Well, I don’t think you can think about it seriously when you’re already 43 years old. It is what it is and I cannot just expect anything natural any more. So we’ll see what happens. It’s not something that doesn’t let us sleep. But it’s not something I am completely opposed to.”

On being a single mom while forging a career path: It’s not something I chose consciously, it’s just something that happened in my life. Now that I look back, I never really needed the help of anyone. Of course I had help, my manager and my agent, but not really someone that was a husband or a boyfriend. So yeah, it does feel great to look back and know I’ve done it all by myself. It’s rewarding. Not that there’s anything wrong with a man taking care of you and helping you.”

On whether she considers herself a feminist: “Umm… I’m in the middle ground. As a Latin woman, I love having a husband, someone to be there waiting for me, supporting me. I don’t see anything bad with getting help from somebody that loves you and treats you well. That’s an amazing job and a lot of effort to do it right. I think the beauty of a woman nowadays is that we can do everything. We have more options and we should do everything we can. But why not have support and love? And if somebody can help you in any way, why not take the help?”

And I’m like, Jesse, no, he’s too handsome. Then, after two days of Jesse trying to convince me, I’m like, O.K., give him my number. I’m thinking, I’m in New Orleans shooting, and he’s in L.A. Nothing’s going to happen. But we started talking a lot, and then he showed up in New Orleans. Since then we’ve been inseparable. There’s nothing about him I’d change other than the fact that he’s four years younger than me.”
On her accent: “I hired the speech coach, and you have to work so much. It’s exhausting. It’s also boring. And I have a bad ear, you know? I’ve been in this country for 20-something years and I still sound like this..So I was going to auditions and the only thing I could focus on was the position of the tongue. I was not acting. And then I thought, If I can’t get a job with my accent, this is not a job for me.”
On her body: “My boobs are, like, huge. My whole life, buying a bra was a nightmare. What I used to do when I moved to L.A., I found places like Frederick’s of Hollywood that make bras for [strippers]. Believe me, I wish I had fake boobs. What would you be working on if you didn’t get Modern Family?

Who knows! I would still be acting that’s a given. But what project? That’s a roll of the dice.

What chapter of your life do you see yourself opening post Modern Family?

I can’t imagine my life without my Modern Family. Maybe more TV? I definitely want to do more films. Whichever seems right for me at the time.

What’s your favorite prop from the set of Modern Family?

It’s my favorite and least favorite at the same time. The painting Dylan gives Haley for Valentine’s Day. It’s awful and cheesy but it’s so iconic. Definitely something I want to keep.

Which of your peers in the industry do you look up to and why?

Sofia Vergara and Taylor Swift. They are both amazing business woman. Let alone beautiful, talented and funny. I don’t think people give them enough credit as to how smart they really are. I admire them tremendously.

Who is the guest list for your ideal dinner party?

My closest friends! And maybe Paul Rudd.

What’s the funniest rumor you’ve read about yourself?

When I was 20 there was an article that I was engaged and Julie Bowen did not approve. The whole thing was a fabrication out of left field. I thought it was ridiculous. I know some people in Hollywood get engaged young, but I won’t be one of them. I love my work. And my friends. And I do love LOVE, but you have to be smart about it. Especially in LA.

Do you have any irrational fears?

I can’t ride a bike because I’m afraid of falling off and scraping my knee. It’s so stupid. Kids twenty years younger than me can do it but I start to hyperventilate as soon as I get on one. I was always a very wary kid. I don’t like getting hurt.

What was your latest splurge and was it worth it?

Hmmm a birthday party or a vacation. I like spending my money on experiences rather than items. Although, I guess I am dying to buy a pair of Christian Louboutin flats. They are like men’s tuxedo shoes for women.

Which charities do you support?

I’m a youth ambassador for the George Lopez Foundation. It’s an organization that helps kids with kidney disease go to camp when they normally wouldn’t be able to. I’m also a part of No Kid Hungry. We can end starvation for children in the US by just spreading the word of programs that are already set in place to help out kids. I love This Bar Saves Lives. It’s a granola bar that helps out children all over the world dying of malnutrition. I have my hands in a lot of cookie jars, but I love it.

What are some of your beauty secrets?

Always take your foundation from your face to neck so that you don’t look like a clown. And remember that eyebrows make a difference.

What makes you laugh?

My girl friends and crazies on the bachelor.

What makes you cry?

Movies like The Color Purple and The Notebook. As much as I swear and can’t do my own makeup, I can be a real girly girl.

The "Modern Family" actress stuns in Shape magazine's November issue as she rocks a black bikini with a plunging top and, of course, her famous smile. Vergara opens up about feeling comfortable in her skin and embracing her figure.
"I was always very happy with what I have. I mean, like any woman I'd complain that my thighs were too big or whatever, but I felt comfortable with my curves –- people expected me to have them," she tells Shape. "Then I hit 40 and started seeing a softness everywhere on my body… I knew it was time to do something.”
Vergara has been using the Megaformer machine, which is based on Pilates and the Strengthen, Lengthen and Tone philosophy. She also lifts free weights and drinks vegetable juices. Her motto? "No pain, no cake!"

Not many people know about Sofia Vergara's battle with cancer. The "Modern Family" star was diagnosed with the disease when she was just 28 years old and underwent surgery to remove her thyroid. Following the operation, Vergara, now 40, was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and has been taking the medication Synthroid to control her hormone levels every day ever since. She is now the spokeswoman for the new campaign "Follow the Script," made possible by AbbVie, which aims to educate individuals with hypothyroidism about the importance of being consistent with the treatment their doctor prescribes.
HuffPost Celebrity was on hand for the launch of the campaign at the Trump SoHo in New York City on April 17, where Vergara discussed her own battle with the condition and what she does to stay happy and healthy. Vergara revealed that she discovered her thyroid issue while at her son Manolo's doctor's appointment in 2000. The physician convinced her to get a check-up and then found out that her thyroid was abnormal just by touching her throat. They did a biopsy and uncovered that her thyroid was, in fact, cancerous.
"They removed my thyroid and since then I have to use medication," she told reporters at the event. "I got rid of the cancer and then for me it was, ‘Oh shoot, now I have to live with this condition my whole life ... I have to be on medication my whole life and I don’t have a thyroid.' So, of course I had to make myself realize what was going on with my body and I have to say in the past ten years, I never had a problem. I’m very very straight with the way I try to do what the doctor says and I go to my doctor religiously and get my blood tests."
Vergara also makes sure to take her prescription at the same time every morning, although she does find it difficult since she doesn't get to eat for a half hour afterward.
"I have the thing [prescription bottle] in my night table and before I go to sleep I put [a pill] out, so I just open my eyes and take it," she explained. "Usually I’m a morning person, so I want to have breakfast and immediately eat and everything, so for me this is torture! Like, if I’m working it's fine because the minute I wake up I shower, so while I’m showering a half hour, an hour goes by, but when I’m on the weekend, I’m like in my bed, ‘This is torture waiting [to eat] 29 minutes … 30 minutes … ok, I can eat something!’" she joked. "But I mean it’s simple, it’s like everything –- you get used to it."
Still, don't assume the Colombian bombshell eats anything she wants. Vergara admitted she believes in moderation.
"You shouldn’t do too much of anything -- that could mean working out, that could mean dieting like crazy. I mean, I drink alcohol, but like a little bit. You have to live your life and be happy because I think being happy and not stressing all the time also helps you. You know, having your good times and being healthy," she explained. "But it’s important to go to the doctor, to have your checkups, to workout, eat healthy, everything. Do everything that you can."
But Vergara confessed that she did get a little crazy about her diet after discovering she had cancer.
"At the beginning when I had the cancer, I thought, 'I'm going to eat everything organic, everything healthy,' because you’re thinking, 'What caused this cancer?' You know, I didn’t smoke, I didn’t do many things that were unhealthy, so I did become a little crazy, but after three months I realized this is so exhausting!" she said, continuing, "It was insane, like having shots of spinach, I mean crazy! So I tried to do healthy things, but not [get] crazy."

"I think the most important part for me is my dosage and not thinking because I have hypothyroidism, [I have to be healthy]," Vergara admitted. "I think everybody should try to eat healthy and work out and exercise for everything. Even for anti-aging, you’re going to look better you’re going to feel better for everything."
