La sfida impegnativa di "Homeland"

"È una sfida impegnativa quella che affronta la quarta stagione di «Homeland», una delle serie più importanti degli ultimi anni (Fox, venerdì, ore 21). Si può dirlo senza rischiare di cadere nello spoiler, visto che «Homeland» è stata integralmente trasmessa anche in Italia: il personaggio di Brody (Damian Lewis) è uscito di scena sul finale della terza stagione, lasciando Carrie (Claire Danes) sola a combattere con i suoi fantasmi (una sindrome bipolare che sfocia nella mania), ad affrontare la minaccia terrorista e gli intrighi interni della Cia. Di fronte alla necessità di dare un passo nuovo alla serie, privata di uno dei suoi protagonisti (è quello che in gergo tecnico si chiama reboot, una sorta di «ristrutturazione» del mondo narrativo), gli autori hanno spostato la scena in Pakistan, dove Carrie ha preso il comando dell’agenzia locale della Cia. Tutto sa di fuga da un lutto non superato, dalle responsabilità inaffrontabili legate al fatto di aver dato alla luce la figlia di Brody. Sin dalle prime, esaltanti puntate, è stato chiaro che la serie giocava il suo fascino sulla tragica forza di attrazione che spingeva i personaggi di Carrie e Brody l’uno verso l’altro. Il bilanciamento tra il racconto di questa passione e delle vicende di spionaggio internazionale, con tutto un carico di verità opache che spesso ha anticipato la cronaca, ha segnato le sorti di «Homeland» lungo il corso delle stagioni: prossima alla perfezione la prima, altalenanti le successive. Privata di questa dinamica, la serie sembra ora tutta concentrata su trame spionistiche, credibili e avvincenti. ESCLUSIVA - Telefilm Cult intervista in esclusiva Robin Lord Taylor, il "Pinguino" (futuro) di "Gotham" (Premium Action ogni lunedì)!

You play an incredibly iconic character in Gotham. How much pressure do you feel to honour previous incarnations of The Penguin, or are you able to create your own version of the character?

It’s a little bit of both. When you follow in the footsteps of Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito – amazing actors and incredible performances that are part of all of our lives – it’s hard not to be influenced. I’m sure they inspire my performance in a certain way, but at the same time we’re showing a different part of the character that no one’s ever seen before. In that sense, I feel like I have a lot of freedom. In Gotham, Oswald is younger. This show is an origin story, so it’s before these villains have been incarnated. In that sense, I feel like I have freedom to create and stretch the character, which is exciting.

Do you feel any added pressure because The Penguin’s origin story is the tale that kicks off Gotham? In the pilot episode, we see a glimpse of The Riddler, Catwoman and Poison Ivy – but The Penguin is front and centre in the plot…

I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel any pressure, but I’m at the point where I’m just going along for the ride. I’m having the best time ever on Gotham, so I’m just trying to show up at work and get my head around what we’re doing each day. I’m having a blast.

Are you involved with many stunts in the show?

Not at this point, but who knows what’s coming down the road? At the moment we have some tussling and stuff for my character, but nothing too crazy.

Are you looking forward to the more physical side of the role?

That’s the thing about The Penguin; he isn’t a physically strong, imposing person. He plays people off each other to do his bidding. But it will certainly be interesting to see if I end up on crane somewhere doing something physical.

Does this mean you’re eager to do your own stunts?

To a certain extent, I’m eager to do them. Yes, definitely – because I feel like authenticity is really what we’re going for in the show. Anything that helps the authenticity is great with me.

The Penguin is a very fierce villain at times. How do you get into the mindset of such a violent character?

To be honest, the script is written so well that it’s all right there on the page. It doesn’t take a lot to get into character. In fact, it’s so fun and it’s written so well that it’s a dream for me. The way we shoot the show also helps. We move so fast with filming that’s it’s almost as though you get swept up into it and the energy just carries you through.

How evil is Oswald Cobblepot when we first meet him in Gotham?

As far as evilness goes, he’s finding his footing. He starts the show at a very low place in the totem pole – and at the end of the pilot, he ends up even lower, so he’s basically crawling his way back to Gotham City. In a way, the evilness is his tool that he uses to gain power. His drive for power is his only motivation.

What is his ultimate goal?

His end game is to run the show. He absolutely refuses to be powerless. He refuses to be stepped on and used because that’s how he’s been treated his whole life. He wants to make a change.

Do you see The Penguin as a character that is dealing with a lot of failures, as well as this quest for power?

Absolutely. I think that’s what fuels his homicidal tendencies. His failures are what push him towards those really dark, violent, sadistic places.

How many Batman comics did you read in preparation for the role?

I read loads! I found a couple of origin story comics, which were great. There’s a secret origin special where it talks about The Penguin’s childhood and how he was a bullied kid in prep school. That part of his childhood informed a lot of where he’s coming from in terms of his drive for power. Then someone gave me a Penguin: Pain And Prejudice comic book, which helped me get into his head even more. It’s an awesome read. How rare is it to play a character when there’s 75 years of resource material to look through? It’s like the research is all there for me; it’s fantastic.

Looking back through the past 75 years of DC villains, what is it about them that resonates the most with you?

The thing that resonates with me most is the fact that these are all mortal people. There are no real supernatural abilities going on here, so that’s what I relate to and that’s what speaks to me the most. All of the villains are coming from an actual, real place; like from being a bullied kid. That’s something we can all relate to. It’s fascinating that it was written in the late 40s and early 50s, but it still resonates today.

How would you describe The Penguin’s relationship with Bruce Wayne?

The great thing about The Penguin is that ultimately as Bruce Wayne/Batman grows up, he realises that he needs my character. They both play off each other in a really fascinating way. They almost have a partnership and they are always connected, which I think is great. It’s like two sides of the good and the evil, and then the fact that they have to interact together and work together; it’s a great, great thing to play.

How would you describe The Penguin’s relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith’s character in Gotham, the villainous Fish Mooney?

When we start the show, Fish is my boss. She’s the one who teaches him everything about the world, the fine underbelly of Gotham City. In a way, she’s very much like a mother figure. However, The Penguin’s desire for power is relentless, and he will use absolutely anyone to get what he wants. He will do whatever it takes. With Fish, the two of them begin so connected – but ultimately there’s not room for two of them in Gotham City.

Paramount Television is again reaching into the studio archives, announcing that it is partnering with Jerry Bruckheimer on a television adaptation of the 1980 Richard Gere-Lauren Hutton film “American Gigolo.”
Bruckheimer, who was a producer on that crime drama centered around a superficial male escort in Los Angeles, will exec produce the project. Paul Schrader, the film’s director and writer, will serve as exec consultant.
Bruckheimer TV’s Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed and Michael Azzolino will exec produce, co-exec produce and produce, respectively. “American Gigolo” will be a Paramount Television production.
“With its signature noir aesthetic, ‘American Gigolo’ has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I’m thrilled to partner with [Paramount's] Brad [Grey] and Amy [Powell] on remaking it into a television series,” said Bruckheimer on behalf of Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Bruckheimer signed a first-look film deal with Paramount last year, where he is developing film sequels to his “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Top Gun.” Among other TV deals, Bruckheimer TV and Michael Bay also recently partnered with TNT on a pilot based on the 1970s Florida drug trade that is penned by “Masters of Sex’s” Michelle Ashford.
“When it comes to making great television entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer Television is in a league unto themselves and we take enormous pride in collaborating with Jerry, Jonathan and KristieAnne on developing a drama series that is every bit as cinematic, suspenseful and stylish as the film,” said Paramount TV prexy Amy Powell.
Paramount TV has also announced plans for a TV adaptation of “Ghost” and is partnering with Fox on a live stage version of “Grease!.”

Poche settimane fa il comico americano Hannibal Buress lo aveva attaccato dal palco della sua città natale, Filadelfia. «Sei uno stupratore seriale», aveva detto davanti a decine di spettatori, uno dei quali lo ha ripreso in un video diventato virale sui social media. Bill Cosby, 77 anni è diventato famoso con I Robinson, è stato accusato da 13 donne di violenze sessuali e oggi deve affrontare nuove accuse.

«Mi ha drogata e stuprata, quell’uomo è un mostro», ha raccontato l’attrice Barbara Bowman, 47 anni, al Daily Mail. Al tempo delle violenze la donna aveva solo 17 anni e si era affidata a Cosby per la sua carriera di attrice. Ha deciso di raccontare i dettagli della sua storia per aiutare altre vittime, nonostante siano passati oltre 25 anni. «La mia speranza è che chiunque abbia subito abusi sessuali non sia intimidita e spinta a stare in silenzio perché è stata abusata da un uomo ricco, famoso e potente. Se posso aiutare anche solo una persona con le mie parole allora ho fatto il mio dovere».

Bowman è nata e cresciuta a Denver, Colorado, e fin da bambina ha studiato per diventare attrice. A 13 anni faceva già parte dell’agenzia J.F. Images, nota nell’ambiente. Nel 1985 ha ottenuto un provino privato con Bill Cosby. «Quando mi ha vista mi ha chiesto di andare in bagno e bagnarmi i capelli. Poi ha voluto che facessi il provino ubriaca mentre lui mi prendeva il collo da dietro». Cosby non si è spinto oltre in quell’occasione. In poco tempo l’attore sembrava voler passare sempre più tempo con Barbara. Le dava lezioni per migliorare la voce e la sua presenza scenica. Poi ha cominciato a pagarle i voli quando lui era in trasferta. «Diceva che faceva parte della sua valutazione e voleva capire se valeva la pena che lui mi aiutasse con la mia carriera». Per poi dirle: «Se vuoi avere successo come attrice devi abbassare le barriere, essere vulnerabile». A quel punto Barbara aveva capito che c’era qualcosa di sbagliato, soprattutto perché Cosby le continuava a ripetere: «Fidati come se fossi tuo padre», sapendo che la ragazza non l’aveva. In Nevada, nel 1986, Cosby l’ha fatta sdraiare sul divano e ha cominciata ad accarezzarla. «È stato così invadente, umiliante. Mi ha preso la mano e l’ha messa sul suo pene. Non potevo dirlo a mia madre e non lo potevo ammettere a me stessa. Ho persino provato a cancellarlo dalla mia mente. Mi sono convinta che era la prima volta e non ci sarebbe stata una seconda occasione». 

Si sbagliava. «Mi ha invitata a cena a casa sua a New York. C’era tutto il suo staff. Mi ha offerto un bicchiere di vino. Poi il buio». Barbara ha raccontato che non si ricorda nulla. Il primo ricordo dopo il vino è lei che vomita in bagno con Cosby che le tiene i capelli. Addosso mutande e una maglietta da uomo. «Sono sicura che mi abbia drogata e stuprata». Ma lei si è sentita obbligata a continuare a vederlo e ogni volta che prendeva un aereo sperava che quelle circostanze non si ripetessero. Intanto lei ha cominciato ad avere successo. Quindi a 19 anni si è trasferita a New York.

L’ultima volta che ha visto Cosby è stata ad Atlantic City, quando l’attore avrebbe cercato di stuprarla, tenendola ferma nel letto. Ma lei ha urlato talmente tanto che alla fine si è fermato. Da quel momento Cosby, dice Bowman, ha cercato di fargliela pagare. L’ha fatta buttare fuori di casa e perdere il lavoro. Anni dopo Bowman ha cercato di andare da un avvocato, «mi ha riso in faccia».

Dal 2004 le vittime di Cosby hanno cominciato a parlare. Almeno 13 donne lo hanno accusato di violenze sessuali. Insieme gli hanno fatto una causa collettiva. Al contrario di altre donne, Barbara non ha preso soldi e non ha firmato contratti. Sono state le parole di Hannibal Buress a spingerla a parlare. «Nonostante le minacce dell’ambiente lui ha continuato a dire la verità. E per questo lo ringrazio».

In Italia, “The Big Bang Theory” genera il maggior numero di page view d’inizio stagione, a cui seguono le storie su “Game of Thrones” e “The Walking Dead”. 

“The Big Bang Theory” trionfa anche, in quanto a popolarità, in Germania e Stati Uniti, mentre in Francia, Giappone e Singapore gli utenti sono catturati dagli intrighi di “House of Cards”. Per gli spagnoli “Grey’s Anatomy” è al primo posto tra le serie che generano più interesse in rete; nel Regno Unito invece  si preferisce “Modern Family”; in India prevale “Game of Thrones”; in Australia “Orange is The New Black”.

"Gotham" ammicca ai fans per non deludere
"Una metropoli dalle tinte scure, soffocante, piena di ombre e priva di luci che non siano artificiali. Un agglomerato caotico di vicoli e sopraelevate. Questa è Gotham, alter ego immaginario dell'iper-reale New York, come si è costruita nei fumetti della DC Comics, nei tre film di Christopher Nolan e ora in una serie tv, «Gotham» appunto, in onda negli Stati Uniti su Fox e in Italia a poca distanza su Premium Action (ogni lunedì, alle 21), dopo l'anteprima in chiaro su Italia 1. Il telefilm, scritto da Bruno Heller (già autore di «Roma» e «The Mentalist»), tiene Batman fuori dallo schermo e dagli eventi narrati, per concentrarsi su quanto è avvenuto prima, sulle origini del mito. L'uccisione dei facoltosi coniugi Wayne di fronte agli occhi del piccolo Bruce, il futuro Cavaliere Oscuro, e la ricerca del colpevole tra depistaggi e false piste, ma non solo: il giovane detective James Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie, già in «The OC» e «Southland»), in coppia con il ben più scafato e disilluso Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), si muove in un sottobosco criminale fatto di degrado e corruzione, in una città allo sbando e senza punti di riferimento, in mano al boss criminale don Falcone. L'idea del prequel però da sola non basta: se le scene e la fotografia sono molto curate, la scrittura e la recitazione non sono sempre all'altezza. E i richiami costanti alla mitologia di Batman si affacciano sullo schermo, ancora giovani o bambini, molti dei suoi futuri nemici: il Pinguino, l'Enigmista, Catwoman sono forse l'indice più evidente di una narrazione che non trova appieno una sua originalità, ma è costretta a lanciare continue strizzate d'occhio ai fan per risultare interessante". NEW YORK (AP) — "Star Trek" may be the next frontier for William Shatner — again. Shatner, who played the original James T. Kirk, says he's meeting soon with Roberto Orci, who's directing "Star Trek 3," to discuss reprising his Kirk in the rebooted franchise.
"I had a talk with him the other day," says Shatner. "So there's talk — simply talk — about the next movie." Shatner has said J.J. Abrams, who produced and directed the 2009 "Star Trek" film and 2013 sequel, recently called to say Orci had an idea about how Shatner might be in the next film of the new franchise, which stars Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk. Shatner says he would do the movie if it's a meaningful part, "a role that had something to do with the turning of the plot." Still, the 83-year-old actor says he's not sure how they'd bring him back now — 20 years after his character was killed off in "Star Trek: The Next Generation". "That was so long ago. How do they bring me back physically like this? I don't know," he says.
Shatner isn't waiting around to find out. He stars in and produces the home renovation series "The Shatner Project," which premieres on the DIY Network on Thursday (10 p.m. EDT). The six-episode series follows Shatner and his wife, Elizabeth, as they revamp the Southern California home he bought 50 years ago.
He says allowing cameras into their home was a "terrible" experience, but he's happy with the result.
Shatner is also designing a motorcycle, a clothing line, a new kind of comic book, continuing his priceline.com ads and his "Brown Bag Wine Tasting" webisodes — and has three films due out.
Ask him about retirement and he says, "What does retiring mean? It means you want to step back from what you're doing and do something else that's more interesting." With a smile, Shatner adds, "I'm in the middle of such a fertile, febrile fantasy that anybody would wish for what I'm doing."

On the upcoming cover of Manhattan magazine he looks like a silver fox in a smart suit. The 48-year-old Grey's Anatomy leading man dives deep into his personal life, revealing his thoughts on plenty of topics, including audition nerves, his dangerous and expensive hobby... and his mother's legacy after a courageous battle with cancer.On the cover, Dempsey is decked out in a snowy gray blazer covering a classy and unassuming sweater. The conservative look is highlighted nicely by a bright blue handkerchief. Inside pages show him wearing a light bomber leather coat, a jeans-and-blazer combination and seated behind the wheel of a vintage convertible. Relaxed and ready for fall, the actor reveals the mind games that went on during his audition for Grey's Anatomy many years ago. 'At first I thought (show creator) Shonda Rhimes hated me, but she was calculating in her head where to put me and what I'd be right for. 'They liked me, but they wanted me to do a chemistry read with lead actress Ellen Pompeo. I had an immediate connection with her because she has a Boston accent, and I'm from Maine, so that disarmed me.' 

The show has made Dempsey a bona fide star, but as it enters its twilight in season 11, he's had other things keeping him busy lately. His mother recently died from ovarian cancer after a 17-year battle, and Dempsey has since turned even more of his attention to his passion project - the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer, Hope & Healing based in his hometown of Lewiston, Maine.

'The human touch is so healing, and when people come into the center, they're greeted usually by cancer survivors themselves who already know what's going on and are compassionate. I think that's really important, and sometimes you don't get that.'

Sofia Vergara is 42 and absolutely fabulous.
The "Modern Family" actress stuns in Shape magazine's November issue as she rocks a black bikini with a plunging top and, of course, her famous smile. Vergara opens up about feeling comfortable in her skin and embracing her figure.
"I was always very happy with what I have. I mean, like any woman I'd complain that my thighs were too big or whatever, but I felt comfortable with my curves –- people expected me to have them," she tells Shape. "Then I hit 40 and started seeing a softness everywhere on my body… I knew it was time to do something.”
Vergara has been using the Megaformer machine, which is based on Pilates and the Strengthen, Lengthen and Tone philosophy. She also lifts free weights and drinks vegetable juices. Her motto? "No pain, no cake!"
