PICCOLO GRANDE SCHERMO - Che coppia! Tatiana Maslany e Penn Badgley insieme al cinema (indipendent)

La “strana coppia” formata dalla sempre più lanciata Tatiana Maslany di “Orphan Black” (Premium Action dal 3 giugno) e Penn Badgley di “Gossip Girl” (Mya, ogni martedì) sarà al cinema nel film indipendente “The Paper Store”, la storia di una ex studentessa che per sbarcare il lunario vende esami e compiti “su misura”. Il tutto si complica quando uno studente-cliente s’invaghisce di lei e quando si viene a comporre un triangolo pericoloso con il professore dei due. Il film, atteso nelle sale nel 2015, sarà diretto da Nicholas Gray, alla sua seconda regia.

Olivia Munn is a feed of constant entertainment. Take, for instance, her story of a surreal weekend in Miami during the 2010 Super Bowl. The night before the game, Munn and a girlfriend found themselves sipping vodka tonics in a penthouse suite, surrounded by strangers. "They're like, 'We're going to a strip club,' and I'm not a strip-club kind of girl, but we're like, 'OK.' We ended up at the Walmart of strip clubs. There's naked strippers of every size, shape: big ones, skinny ones, midget ones doing upside-down tricks. Someone sticks us next to Nelly and Diddy, and this is when I became friends with Jamie Foxx.... So he starts singing a song, and all of a sudden we hear, 'Olivia Munn, come to the stage!' The next thing you know, I'm onstage singing along, probably to 'Gold Digger.'" Here, Munn poses in a silk-blend Jacquard robe, bra, and silk georgette pants by Gucci, and patent-leather shoes by B Brian Atwood.
Currently, Munn is dating Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman, star of The Killing and RoboCop, a fantasy for someone who grew up quoting the original, as Munn did. "If there was ever going to be a girl who would want her man to bring home a RoboCop suit, it would be me," says Munn. "Joel is truly fantastic in it." Here, makeup artist Dotti touches up Munn's bronzer.
Munn, shown here in her cover shot, is at the top of her professional game. She will star with Eric Bana in the thriller Deliver Us From Evil and with Johnny Depp in the art-heist comedy Mortdecai. Then there's her role in The Newsroom as financial reporter Sloan Sabbith. "What I really love to do for a role is make the woman unapologetic for who she is," says Munn. "They wanted to put me in a turtleneck, and I said no. They're like, 'We want people to take her seriously,' and I said, 'People will take her seriously because of her brain. It's not her problem what somebody sees when they look at her.'"that makes carbs disappear as they go into your body. I prefer the truth," says the actress, who had melon and green tea. "Broadchurch", non solo giallo

"Non bisogna perdersi la serie inglese «Broadchurch», iniziata sul canale di telefilm Giallo (canale 38 del digitale terrestre, lunedì, ore 21.05). Insieme ad altri esempi recenti (come «Sherlock» e «Downton Abbey»), la serie dimostra che anche fuori dagli Stati Uniti si possono realizzare fiction di alta qualità. La storia è ambientata in un piccolo paese affacciato sulla costa: poche anime, una vita che si anima d'estate con l'arrivo dei turisti attratti dalle scogliere e dall'incantevole spiaggia. A «Broadchurch» tutti si conoscono, le relazioni di vicinato sostanziano l'esistenza dei suoi abitanti in un clima di pigra e rassicurante noia. Per questo, quando il cadavere di un bambino di undici anni, figlio di una famiglia molto nota in paese, viene ritrovato sulla spiaggia, non sono sconvolte solo le vite dei suoi genitori ma quelle di tutta la comunità. Iniziano i misteri, parte la girandola dei sospetti, non da ultimo inizia lo sciacallaggio dei mezzi di comunicazione che immediatamente si buttano sul caso. Tra le cose più interessanti della serie c'è il rapporto tra i due investigatori che guidano le indagini, Alec Hardy e Ellie Miller. La coppia di poliziotti è un classico del racconto giallo, ma «Broadchurch» la colora di nuove sfumature: Alec è un uomo all'apparenza freddo e molto determinato, che presto si scopre essere anche ombroso e tormentato da un passato misterioso. Ellie è nata e cresciuta a Broadchurch, è un membro portante della comunità: a tratti goffa, molto emotiva, sembra subire la leadership del collega Alec ma dimostrerà un buon fiuto investigativo. L'importante sarà lasciare da parte la confidenza nei confronti dei sospettati che conosce da una vita, sgretolare tutte le proprie certezze arrendendosi all'idea che anche dietro al più innocuo vicino si può nascondere un assassino". Rumor has it that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her actress wife Portia de Rossi's marriage is splitting under the strain on accusations of infeditaity. The Hollywood power couple are reportedly divorcing because Portia thinks Ellen is sleeping with X-Files icon Gillian Anderson and DeGeneres thinks Portia is sleeping with everybody. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi relationship has been under the microscope ever since the Arrested Development actress started appearing around town sans wedding band. Though the pair have tried to assure the public things are back to normal; reports are beginning to surface that Portia is unhappy once again. According to ShowBiz Spy de Rossi caught DeGeneres texting NBC Crisis's Gillian Anderson, and once again, the stuff hit the fan:
"Ellen and Gillian adore each other...Ellen and Gillian have been close friends for years and set tongues wagging when they were caught sharing a steamy lip lock in 2000.

"Ellen has always had a major crush on Gillian, but she's sworn up and down to Portia nothing happened between them. But Portia doesn't believe her...and wants them to stop communicating." If you believes the sources, it's the lack of trust, even more than the violence and booze, that are tearing the aging lesbians apart. The not-quite reputable Celeb Dirty Laundry reports that the turmoil between the Ellen and Portia has hit a fever pitch, and something has just got to give:
"Some sources say that it's Ellen's trust and insecurity issues, and that she's constantly accusing Portia of cheating on her or flirting with other women.
"Portia, on the other hand, reportedly feels like Ellen instigates a lot of fights for no reason, and she doesn't like being in such a negative environment. Basically, it's a lose-lose situation."
If Portia really wants to hurt Ellen she'll sleep with David Duchovny next.

"This is the first interview I've ever done where I'm not wearing panties. Lucky you," says Kristen Bell. She has just stripped down for Allure's annual nudes shoot (in the May issue of Allure, on newsstands now). And so did three other courageous actresses: Minnie Driver, Jenna Dewan Tatum, and Nia Long. "I was a little bit nervous, but I actually really love my body—it's done amazing things for me," says Driver of the experience. "There's such a grace to being confident in who you are." We asked the women what it feels like to disrobe for America.

Kristen Bell is candid about her body: "My belly skin has made me self-conscious, and it's only gotten worse since I've had a baby," says the 33-year-old actress (House of Lies, Veronica Mars). "I have definitely and happily used a body double. It's a very nice thing to be able to rely on." So why pose nude for Allure less than a year after having her baby? "I talk a big game about being comfortable no matter my size," she says. "I wanted to put my money where my mouth was."
What's your favorite body part? "I'm a big fan of buns. Buns and cakes. On anybody. Not just my own. I mean, I'm a fan of my own buns. I'm very happy with the amount that I've been given, and I often attempt to sculpt them into something more than what I've been given. But I notice other people's buns quite a bit."
Were you comfortable with your body while you were pregnant? "I was terribly frightened that I would feel like a schlub and not at all beautiful. But I've never been so comfortable with my body. When I looked in the mirror, I saw Cindy Crawford."
How did you exercise after your daughter was born? "I started doing Pilates, then I realized it wasn't as torturous as regular cardio, so I've kept it up. I'm more in shape now than I've been at other times in my life."

NEWS - "Le serie tv non sono l'ufficio stampa del male": Roberto Saviano dixit alla vigilia di "Gomorra-La Serie" (by Sky Atlantic)
(ANSA) - ROMA, 29 APR - "Credo che guardare Gomorra e poi emulare le gesta dei personaggi sia profondamente improbabile. Ma per una ragione: quei fatti gia' avvengono. Guardare alle serie televisive come a un ufficio stampa del male e' uno sguardo un po' superficiale. Possono al massimo dare spunti a chi ha scelto di essere un criminale. Si torna sempre al punto di partenza: alla realta' che ha fatto fare una scelta del genere. Il film non puo' mai essere un'educazione al crimine. La realta' e' gia' oltre, non e' la fiction che puo' indurre qualcuno a intraprendere la strada del crimine nella vita. La materia su cui intervenire e' quella realta', non il film che la racconta. In 'Gomorra - La Serie' noi raccontiamo la realta' cosi' com'e'. E' la nostra finzione perche' ovviamente la serie e' una finzione, fatta da attori. Non e' un documentario". E' quanto sottolinea Roberto Saviano in un'intervista a Sky Atlantic Hd trasmessa nell'ambito della presentazione oggi a Roma dell'anteprima del colossal Tv in 12 episodi "Gomorra - La Serie", il cui debutto nei primi due episodi e' atteso per il 6 maggio su Sky Atlantic Hd. Il Colossal e' stato realizzato da Sky con due delle maggiori societa' italiane di produzione televisiva e cinematografiche, Cattleia e Fandango, in collaborazione con La7 e in associazione con Betafilm. Il primo ciak e' stato battuto nel marzo 2013 per la regia di Stefano Sollima (lo stesso della serie cult Romanzo Criminale) che ha curato anche la supervisione artistica. Dietro la macchina da presa anche Francesca Comencini e Claudio Cupellini e un maxi cast di giovani attori legati al territorio su cui spiccano tra tutti Marco D'Amore, Fortunato Cerlino, Maria Pia Calzone, Salvatore Esposito, Marco Palcetti e Domenico Balsamo. Prima ancora del suo debutto Tv, Gomorra la Serie ha destato l'interesse dei principali mercati televisivi internazionali e gia' oggi e' stata venduta in 40 Paesi tra cui gli Stati Uniti. Dal libro, al film, alla serie, quanto c'e' di realta' e quanto di fiction, perche' un racconto seriale? "Perche' - ha fatto notare Roberto Saviano in un'intervista a Sky - mi ero reso conto che erano rimaste fuori tante storie e una serie avrebbe potuto raccontarle". Che garanzie ha chiesto in fase di sviluppo? "La garanzia - ha risposto lo scrittore - che ho chiesto agli sceneggiatori e allo stesso Sollima e' stata soltanto una: noi raccontiamo i meccanismi della realta', non la semplifichiamo, non la traduciamo neanche. Non indichiamo soluzioni. Noi dobbiamo raccontare. La garanzia che ho chiesto e' stata soltanto questa. Dal momento in cui si e' deciso di stare dentro questo metodo - ovvero raccontare la ferocia ma allo stesso tempo la stupidita', non rendendo nulla etico, ma neanche temendo di mostrare qualcosa che in qualche modo attrae - dal
momento in cui ho capito che questa era anche la volonta' dei produttori, degli sceneggiatori e del regista, ho riconosciuto il mio progetto". Saviano ha fatto notare che era importante girare a Scampia e non in altri luoghi perche' Scampia e' protagonista, e' un attore, non e' una quinta che puoi ricostruire, e' il dna della serie".

"Game of Thrones", il fantasy che intriga
"Una delle cose migliori seguita all'arrivo di Sky Atlantic, il canale dedicato ai telefilm di qualità, è stata la possibilità di vedere la quarta stagione de «Il Trono di spade», la più bella serie fantasy di sempre, a distanza molto ravvicinata dalla sua trasmissione negli Usa. Per accorciare il processo di lavorazione, prima della trasmissione dell'episodio doppiato, le puntate sono proposte in lingua originale e sottotitolate in italiano, così si possono apprezzare tutte le sfumature della recitazione dei protagonisti americani (mercoledì, ore 23.10). Dopo il finale choc della scorsa stagione, con le «nozze di sangue» che hanno fatto uscire contemporaneamente dalla storia tre dei suoi protagonisti, le sorprese e i colpi di scena non sono mancati anche alla ripresa dei nuovi episodi. Le casate che si contendono il Trono di spade, emblema dei sette regni, sono in lotta per la conquista del potere nelle scontornate terre di Westeros e nei territori dell'Est: Daenerys Targaryen e i suoi draghi sono diventati molto potenti, gli Stark invece sembrano ormai senza speranze, sono stati decimati e si affidano ai membri apparentemente più deboli, un figlio illegittimo, due ragazzine, un ragazzo paralizzato con poteri sovrannaturali.In questi primi episodi gran parte dell'attenzione è rivolta ai Lannister in seguito alla morte del perfido re ragazzino Joffrey, ai destini del nano Tyrion e dei suoi fratelli incestuosi Jamie e Cersei. Molto discutere ha fatto una scena dell'ultimo episodio in cui si suggerisce un rapporto sessuale non consenziente tra i due: fiumi di inchiostro sull'inopportunità della rappresentazione della violenza in tv. Ma nel mondo primordiale del «Trono di spade», la vera sanzione della colpa arriverà, se deve arrivare, dalla penna degli sceneggiatori, dalle loro decisioni sul destino dei personaggi".

ESCLUSIVA - LINDSAY LOHAN SHOCK: USCITA DAL REHAB, SI DIMENTICA LE BATTUTE SUL SET DI “2 BROKE GIRLS” (E IL SUO CELLULARE SUONA IN MEZZO ALLA SCENA-CLOU!). LE TRAGEDIE NON VENGONO MAI SOLE: LA MADRE FERMATA PER GUIDA IN STATO DI EBREZZA

Pur essendo uscita da poco dal rehab, pur avendo promesso davanti a milioni di spettatori dal salotto di Oprah Winfrey di volersi riprendere la propria vita, lontana dagli stravizi che ultimamente l’hanno portata alla ribalta più delle capacità artistiche, Lindsay Lohan sembra esserci ricascata. L’attrice è stata chiamata nei giorni scorsi al suo primo impegno professionale dopo l’uscita dal rehab: l’interpretazione di un cameo nella sit-com “2 Broke Girls” (in Italia in onda in prima tv su Joi – Mediaset Premium ogni martedì in prima serata), nei panni di una futura sposa assai indecisa se salire all’altare. Fatto sta che secondo alcuni spettatori presenti alla registrazione (n.d.r.: in America le sit-com sono girate davanti a un pubblico vero) Lohan avrebbe dato segni di mancanza professionale. Dimenticanza delle battute, ritardi nei ciak e addirittura il suo cellulare che si è messo a suonare nel bel mezzo di una scena. “E’ stato come vedere un treno uscire dai binari  – ha scritto letteralmente uno degli spettatori sul suo blog – ci sono volute più di 5 ore per registrare 45 minuti. Nella prima scena doveva recitare 5 battute e ha impiegato 5 ciak diversi, uno per ciascuna battuta. Chiunque tra il pubblico avrebbe recitato meglio di lei”. Secondo il testimone metà degli spettatori avrebbe abbandonato gli spalti a metà registrazione, quando è avvenuta la classica goccia che ha fatto traboccare il vaso. Nel bel mezzo della scena-clou in cui l’attrice compariva vestita da sposa si è sentito un cellulare suonare ed interrompere il ciak. “Era quello della Lohan! E’ stato incredibile – racconta il testimone delle riprese – Lohan ha abbandonato il set per rispondere e chiedere di richiamare più tardi”. Dopo l’interruzione, secondo il testimone, circa la metà dei 200 spettatori presenti avrebbe abbandonato la sala.

Le circostanze della registrazione-shock sono state smentite via twitter dalle due protagoniste dellla sit-com giunta alla 3° stagione (in onda su Joi, dove prossimamente andrà in onda l’episodio con Lohan): “Lindsay è stata molto carina, non è giusto attaccarla”, ha twittato la bruna Kat Dennings; “è stata professionale e sa quel che fa”, le ha fatto eco la collega bionda Beth Behrs. E siccome le tragedie non vengono mai sole, è di questa settimana la notizia che la madre di Lindsay Lohan, Dina, è stata accusata formalmente di aver guidato in stato di ebrezza. La polizia aveva fermato la donna a settembre per eccesso di velocità a New York. Alla prova dell’alcol-test, Dina Lohan è risultata fuori norma del doppio rispetto ai limiti consentiti. Il procuratore ha chiesto per lei 100 ore di comunità e una multa di 3000 dollari. La sentenza è attesa per il 3 giugno. L’avvocato difensore ha consegnato agli atti la difesa della donna chiosando che “si tratta di una brava persona, la sua vita è stata dedicata a crescere i suoi 4 figli”. Lindsay compresa…

NEWS - "OITNB" su Mya (Mediaset Premium) da giugno: dopo "House of Cards" su Sky (Atlantic), Netflix semina i suoi gioielli sulle reti (ipoteticamente) concorrenti in vista del suo (lontano?) approdo 

La serie-fenomeno “Orange Is The New Black” di Netflix, ambientata all’interno di un carcere femminile, andrà in onda in anteprima assoluta su  Mya dal 12 giugno, ogni giovedì in prima serata. Si tratta di uno dei titoli seriali di cui la stampa americana si è occupata maggiormente nell’ultima stagione – sia per i temi affrontati che per l’alta qualità di messa in scena – non da ultima l’ultima copertina del prestigioso “Entertainment Weekly” in edicola che lo definisce letteralmente “strangest, kinkiest and most surprising hit on tv”. La serie racconta le vicende di Piper Chapman, una donna del Connecticut che viene condannata a scontare 15 mesi nel carcere federale di Litchfield per aver trasportato una valigia piena di soldi per conto di una trafficante di droga internazionale un tempo sua amante. Guarda caso quest’ultima finisce nello stesso carcere di Piper…Girata col taglio dramedy (a metà strada tra la black comedy e il drama), tratta dal libro di memorie omonimo di Piper Kerman, “OITNB” è stata ideata da Jenji Kohan, già ideatrice della serie cult – assai chiaccherata anch’essa – “Weeds”, su una vedova che alla morte del marito si mette a spacciare cannabis per mantenere i due figli. “La serie indaga sull’auto-distruzione e sulla brutalità che si annida anche nell’animo femminile – ha dichiarato l’ideatrice Kohan – la prigione è solo un megafono di questo aspetto”. In America, il debutto del serial è stato più visto di un altro titolo Netflix come “House of Cards”. Tra i riconoscimenti si contano un People’s Choice Award e un Peabody Award. Jodie Foster dirige il terzo episodio della serie che è già stata rinnovata per la seconda stagione. Le due interpreti principali, la bionda Taylor Schilling e la bruna Laura Prepon, sono diventate in patria icone di stile e idoli della comunità lesbo. La serie vanta per la prima volta un transgender negli interpreti principali. Il tema musicale, “You’ve got Time”, è eseguito da Regina Spektor.

NEWS - Netflix, se mai arriverà in Italia, sarà dopo il resto d'Europa (anche la Polonia prima di noi!)

Netflix sale (+6,7%) a Wall Street dopo i conti trimestrali. La società, partita nel 1997 come servizio di noleggio di film in dvd per posta, dal 2008 ha cambiato pelle e ora è un vero e proprio network televisivo via Internet di successo: negli ultimi tre mesi ha registrato utili per 53,1 milioni di dollari con ricavi a 1,27 miliardi (+24%). Il grande colpo del fondatore Reed Hastings è stato l'acquisto, nel 2012, dei diritti della fortunata serie «House of cards».
L'intrigo a sfondo politico interpretato da Kevin Spacey era finito a Netflix grazie a un'offerta per i diritti, superiore rispetto ai canali via cavo Amc e Hbo, di cui ora è il principale concorrente. E per dimostrare la stretta connessione che ormai sussiste tra pay tv e tv via Internet, in Italia, dove il servizio di Netflix non è ancora disponibile, è SkyAtlantic a trasmettere «House of Cards».
L'intreccio tra la banda ultralarga e la pay tv sembra sempre più stretto. Telecom e Sky venderanno contenuti e abbonamenti a banda ultralarga. E presto potrebbe arrivare un'altro accordo tra la stessa Netflix e Vodafone.
Netflix comunque è già in Europa. Nel 2012 è sbarcata in Gran Bretagna, mentre l'anno scorso è toccato a Olanda e Scandinavia. Presto si dovrebbero aggiungere Francia e Germania, ma non l'Italia, che pare essere meno interessante persino rispetto a Spagna e Polonia, poiché la penetrazione Internet nelle case è del 55% contro la media Ue del 72%. Inoltre, le prestazioni della rete sono mediamente inferiori certamente anche a causa della bassa diffusione della fibra.
Telecom, infatti, fatica a investire nella rete di nuova generazione perché, al momento, le richieste di collegamento a banda ultralarga latitano. La speranza è che l'accordo con Sky riesca a dare impulso alla domanda. Negli Usa il successo di Netflix è dovuto anche al fatto che l'abbonamento alla tv via cavo (che comprende Internet) costa circa 100 dollari al mese, mentre il costo di Netflix (più Internet) ammonta a circa 60 dollari. L'ad e fondatore Hasting ha, infatti, prospettato una «lieve» modifica del prezzo. In Italia Netflix ha fatto proseliti. Mediaset ha lanciato, un paio di mesi fa, un servizio simile (Infinity) a 9 euro al mese. E ieri, proprio in concomitanza dei conti positivi di Netflix, anche Mediaset ha messo a segno una crescita del 3,3% in Borsa. Certo è che, negli Usa, i colossi locali della tv via cavo non stanno a guardare. Ieri Netflix ha chiesto alle autorità Usa di bloccare la fusione da 45 miliardi di dollari tra Comcast di Time Warner Cable. Secondo l'ad Hastings, infatti, l'operazione concederebbe al nuovo colosso il controllo di oltre il 60% del mercato della tv online ad alta velocità. Una minaccia per Netflix che sta ancora lottando duramente per crescere.

The Newsroom tends to take a sanctimonious approach to recent history, and many journalists take issue with the show's apparent desire to tell them how they should have done their jobs. In an interview with former Obama speech-writer Jon Favreau on Monday night at a Tribeca Film Festival discussion, Aaron Sorkin tried to make amends with the press corps. “I’m going to let you all stand in for everyone in the world, if you don’t mind,” Sorkin told the audience. “I think you and I got off on the wrong foot with The Newsroom and I apologize and I’d like to start over.”

He continued:

I think that there’s been a terrible misunderstanding. I did not set the show in the recent past in order to show the pros how it should have been done. That was and remains the furthest thing from my mind. I set the show in the recent past because I didn’t want to make up fake news. It was going to be weird if the world that these people were living in did not in any way resemble the world that you were living in… Also, I wanted the option of having a terrific dynamic that you can get when the audience knows more than the characters do… So, I wasn’t trying to and I’m not capable of teaching a professional journalist a lesson.

Later, in response to an audience question about whether he is happy with The Newsroom, Sorkin responded with an unusual amount of candor, saying that he feels like he's "just now starting to learn how to write it.” Just in time for season three's fall 2014 premiere, we hope.

I’ve very proud of The Newsroom. I have the time of my life working with the people that I work with, but there is a learning curve and unfortunately, those lessons are learned in front of several million people. Again, that’s what you sign up for. I wish that I could go back to the beginning of The Newsroom and start again and replicate what you have with a play, which is a preview period… But I’m feeling really good about how the third season is going. I’ll look back on it fondly and proudly and wish I could get every scene of every episode back so that I could do it all over again.

All in all, a very nice apology, particularly from someone who is not known for his skill with apologies. Now if we can just get a mea culpa for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, we'll finally be able to move on with our lives.

"A couple of years ago I sat in the audience for a panel discussion on queer representation in entertainment; the presentation included a breezy tour through the gay history of the media, complete with Powerpoint slides of Rosie, Ellen and old People magazines from when you needed to be on the cover of something to come out. The overview was greeted warmly, until we got to Will and Grace, where one of the show's characters, Jack McFarland, proved a sticking point. Jack, a sassy sidekick whose flamboyance towed the line between camp and parody, has long been a lightning rod of discussion in the community. You could feel that discomfort in the room.

Our tour guide diffused the tension by reminding the mostly-male audience that Jack might be a stereotype, but many of us know a Jack in real life. The audience laughed with delight and recognition. They nodded to friends as if to say, "Oh, yes. That's true." What he didn't say is that many of us are Jacks, but I wondered how many people would laugh at that statement.

I thought of this moment after NBC announced that the network would be pulling Sean Saves the World, the freshman sitcom starring Sean Hayes, who played Jack on Will and Grace. For those who haven't seen the show (read: all of you), Sean Saves the World was about a father forced to take sole guardianship of his estranged (yet adorable!) daughter after her mother abandoned her. The show was NBC's attempt to relive its glory days by borrowing from what worked in the '90s, with Hayes playing nearly the same character, a little older and wiser, but with all the trademark pitfalls. Even the stilted laugh track made it sound like the laughter was echoing in from 15 years ago.

 But in getting (rightly) cancelled by NBC, audiences weren't just leaving '90s sitcoms behind. They were leaving behind the Jack McFarlands, a relic of the Queer as Folk era of gay TV, when a show like Queer as Folk (for all its whitewashed issues) could give us three effeminate gays in its lead cast: Emmett, Ted and Justin. The recent television movement has been a push toward post-gay representation, creating male characters who just so happen to be gay. On the critically lauded Brooklyn Nine-Nine, that's the entire point of Andre Braugher's Captain Holt. His sexuality is as inscrutable as the rest of his persona, a hard-ass who has learned to blend in to survive in a homophobic workforce. The recent new HBO addition Looking was celebrated for the same thing. Although many critics chided it for being dull (which it is), defenders of the show found it liberating that gay characters got to be boring on television just like everyone else.

However, there's a certain type of character that gets the privilege to be post-gay, guys whose sexuality doesn't stand out in the same way that Jack's did. In order to get on television today, gay characters are butching it up, becoming like Captain Holt to prove they can hang with the boys, camouflaged with masculinity. Looking's characters are all fit hipster bros who call each other "dude" a lot. On the recently departed Happy Endings, the schlubby, hairy Max acted as a deconstruction of gay stereotypes. It was a running joke that Max was "less gay" than the show's straight dudes, much like gay characters on Nashville and GCB. This might be what it takes to fit in, but it looks awfully heteronormative.

Even recent shows that depict effeminate male characters use them primarily as the butt of the joke, a Lucy character who is always causing trouble. They act in counterpoint to a straighter man, who is seen as the voice of reason. The now-cancelled Ryan Murphy sitcom The New Normal provided Bryan — a shallow, judgmental television executive — primarily as a counterpoint to his angelically understanding partner David, a doctor who watches football and has no other character traits. David's role is "The Problem Solver." On Modern Family, Mitchell and Cameron have a similar dynamic, but Mitch seems to increasingly resent Cam for his effeminate tomfoolery. Their growing animosity has led many viewers to wonder if they secretly hate each other.

More than Mitchell, it's the community that has a complicated relationship with flamboyancy, much like the guys that I sat on the aforementioned panel with. It's a lot easier to pretend the queens don't exist than try to represent them, or we'd have to admit we have something in common. I remember that my mother once told me how much I reminded her of Jack and I remember how much it bothered me. I never stopped to ask myself why.

In being the newest gay show on TV, many will look to Looking to fix the problems surrounding gay representation and fill in the gaps in our media spectrum. Such is the inherent burden of representing a community, but we need to recognize why those cracks exist in the first place and why certain character types might push our buttons when it comes to masculinity and internalized homophobia. Fixing one TV show won't solve a problem that's bigger than HBO. With True Blood’s Lafayette and Glee's Kurt Hummel on shows that are on their last legs, our effeminate males are quickly becoming an endangered species.

On Girls, Lena Dunham's Hannah recently mourned the death of her complicated and quick-witted editor, David Pressler-Goings, played by the ever-androgynous John Cameron Mitchell. As David ascended to TV heaven to be with Sean Hayes, Hannah recalled that he had been her champion, the only one who believed in her work. TVs Davids, Jacks and Emmetts need champions too. They might not be represented on the air anymore, but it doesn't mean they aren't still here in real life and wondering what happened to their television counterparts".

Scandal returns on Thursday with the second half of its third season, and fans can't contain their excitement. But it seems some people would rather the #Gladiators stay quiet.
The show is often disparaged unjustly — people call it a soap opera because of its melodramatic plot. But they have no idea what they're talking about, because it's one of the smartest, most progressive shows on TV: The show may be gripping, but it's actually incredibly advanced in its representations of diversity.
To celebrate Olivia, Fitz and Darby Stanchfield's mole, here are seven ways Scandal has improved TV way more than the haters let on: 

1. It makes sexuality an afterthought.

Cyrus Beane is a lot of things — the White House Chief of Staff, a workaholic and the guy you call when you need to clean up a murder. He's also gay, but that's not the point. His sexuality gets less attention than his day job, and the show's choice to treat it as an aside is incredibly progressive.
Creator Shonda Rhimes has said that the character's marital choice wasn't part of her original plan, which may explain why Cyrus' marital issues are never related to him being gay — they're related to him being a total jerk. Now that's equality. 

2. It treats race like an afterthought, too.
Similar to Cyrus' sexual preference, Olivia Pope's race is essentially a non-issue. When other characters talk about Olivia, they dissect her professional skills and gossip-worthy love life — not her skin color. The New Yorker calls Scandal a "post-racial fantasy," and that's a good thing. 

3. It features feminists of all shapes and sizes. 

Hollywood is slowly starting to understand that "feminist" is not a dirty word, but Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes has known that for quite some time.

Rhimes' female characters speckle the map. They range from career women in love with married men to pro-life Republicans who kill their husbands. Though the validity of either camp's feminism is up for debate, Scandal relies on shades of gray in its portrayal of strong female characters. Their gender is treated as neutral, and their actions prove that seeking out a corporate position, a higher political rank or an orgasm doesn't make you any less of a feminist than shaving your armpits. 

4. It doesn't take rape lightly. 
Season three is Scandal's craziest plot-wise, and one of its most traumatic moments involves First Lady Mellie's rape. The scene is gut-wrenching, but the morning after the assault, she makes the conscious decision to keep the events to herself. Critics claim that the show followed trends of using sexual assault and silent victims as plot devices and easy exits, but its authenticity in portraying these brutal events is worth praising — her silence is only another level of pain that isn't overlooked — it's impossible to forget. 

5. It let Lisa Kudrow rip American sexism to shreds.
Leave it to Phoebe to tell it like it is. Lisa Kudrow only joined Scandal for a few episodes to play senator Josephine Marcus, but one of them happened to contain the show's most memorable monologue — an astute feminist tirade about how Americans tend to "speak in code" about gender. Kudrow's delivery is fantastic, but it's Kerry Washington's glance of agreement during the speech that makes this moment stick. Teamwork feminism is the best feminism. 

6. It rocks the female anti-hero. 
Breaking Bad and House of Cards set Americans on a bad guy binge, but bad girls are a trickier genre to crack. Olivia Pope does it by misleading us. We're told every few episodes that she "wears the white hat," but she's rigged elections, denied information that could have saved a mother's life and had an on-going affair. It's not gender stereotypes that mask Olivia's dark side — Rhimes described Scandal's characters as "monsters running around in human skin," and it's their ethical shortcomings that make it easy to forget Olivia's. But Olivia Pope still leads her gladiators — let's not forget what "gladiator" means.

7. It mocks everything that's wrong with American politics. 

It's easy to focus on the long looks shared by star-crossed lovers, but much of Scandal is sneakily satire. The government hardly governs — only once have foreign affairs made their way into the plot line. And, of course, POTUS's affair with Pope gives a whole new meaning to "domestic affairs."

Though Fitz has a party affiliation and charisma, he has done little in terms of policy. The NSA drama is not a matter of national security, but selfish image-control. When terrorist attacks and murders are concealed with a flick of the wrist, it's easy to dismiss the show as "lazy," but the critique implied in Rhimes' vision reminds us that our government is seriously flawed. Scandal's government is more of a PR agency than a governing body.
It's hyperbole, sure. But it's not wrong, and it's only one of the many ways that this show is far smarter than critics let on.

NEWS - Stendiamo un Draper pietoso! "Mad Men" giù di 1 milione di spettatori alla prima della 7° (peggior score dal 2008)

(ANSA) - NEW YORK - 'Mad Men' perde oltre un milione di telespettatori durante la serata di avvio della settima stagione. Per la serie tv ambientata negli anni '60 che parla delle vicende dell'agente pubblicitario Don Draper (Jon Hamm) e company si tratta di un vero e proprio tonfo. Il peggior risultato dal 2008. Il primo episodio della settima e a quanto pare ultima serie e' andato in onda sul network Amc domenica scorsa e ha totalizzato poco piu' di due milioni di telespettatori contro i quasi tre milioni e mezzo del precedente inizio di serie nel 2013. Secondo quanto scrive l'Huffington Post sembra che 'Mad Men' non riesca a tenere il passo di serie piu' fortunate come 'The Walking Dead' e 'Breaking Bad'. Inoltre, la sera in cui e' andato in onda, ha sofferto la concorrenza di 'Games of Thrones' e 'Mtv Movie Awards'.
