NEWS - Clamoroso al Cibali! Lo spin-off di "Dexter" è possibile (ma non senza Michael C. Hall)

Even before Dexter ended its eight-season run, we heard a lot about the idea of Showtime doing a Dexter spinoff. During the Television Critics Association this week, Showtime president David Nevins admitted that it’s still a thing that could happen.
However, Nevins noted that it wouldn’t be a spinoff because it would continue to be about Michael C. Hall’s character, Dexter. Indeed, he said, Showtime wouldn’t do the “spinoff” without Hall involved, and not as a producer, but as a character.
However, Nevins also noted that, if they were to make the series, “I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I want it to feel different – not just a continuation of the old show.” So, it wouldn’t be a continuation, it would be a new “concept” and “configuration”? That doesn’t make a damn bit of sense unless they plan to bring Dexter back to focus only on his life as a lumberjack in Alaska. I mean, you can do a new configuration — Dexter develops a new family in a different location — but you can’t really change the “concept” unless you nix the part of Dexter that’s about him being a serial killer, which is THE POINT OF THE CHARACTER, so why even bring him back?
If it’s about Dexter, and Dexter is still a serial killer, then no matter how you try to spin it, that “spinoff” is a “continuation” of the series. You may as well call it Dexter, season nine.
Meanwhile, referring to the finale of Dexter, Nevins also said this:

WHY THE HELL NOT? Seriously? In a show about a serial killer, there was never even a THOUGHT to killing him in the end? You’re telling me that the most logical and just ending to the series NEVER EVEN ENTERED THEIR MINDS?
No wonder Dexter ran off the rails in the end. The people behind Dexter were suffering from a severe case of headupass.

EXCLUSIVE: Snake Plissken is back! Fox has emerged from competitive bidding and closed a deal to remake the 1981 John Carptenter-directed cult classic Escape From New York. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman’s The Picture Company will produce. The original was released by Avco Embassy, and the rights were own by Studiocanal. Carpenter will be an executive producer and will exert creative influence over the project. Fox’s Mike Ireland brought it in and will steer. The hope is to reinvent the property with an eye toward launching a new franchise. In the original, Kurt Russell played Plissken, an eyepatch-sporting tough guy who is conscripted to rescue the president of the United States after Air Force One — en route to a summit that could head off WWIII — goes missing after it crashes in New York, which has been relegated to a maximum security prison. Plissken, a former special forces operative convicted of trying to rob the Federal Reserve, is given 22 hours to liberate the president and a tape he carries which holds the key to peace. If he fails, he’s wired to explode. The cynical original, hatched by Carpenter after the Watergate scandal, was set in a futuristic Gotham circa 1997. There have been remake overtures before, but not with Carpenter involved. New Line tried it with Neal Moritz. It’s the second producing project set up by The Picture Company, after they set Nottingham And Hood at Disney. TPC has a deal with Studiocanal. While there was a spate of rumors earlier this fall that the film was about to be cast with the likes of Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, I’m told those rumors amounted to wishful thinking by fans, because there was no rights deal made until now, and there is no script. They are starting from scratch. That said, the notion of Hunnam playing the Snake, or Chris Hemsworth who was another one rumored, seems like pretty inspired ideas from here. I saw Russell at an AFM buyers event for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, and he certainly looked robust though you can’t do a remake with the original guy.
All of that is fantasy league stuff and the reality comes down the road when they hire a scribe and a filmmaker and the studio gets a script it likes. Who else is worth considering for Plissken?

On being five feet tall and having a ton of self confidence: “It’s an internal thing. I know that I’m petite but I never think like I am, ever. The truth is, there are times when I feel as big and tall as Will!”
On her upbringing: “Often we feel in order to be strong we have to take on male attributes. I grew up on the streets of Baltimore and had to put out an energy that said, ‘You do not want to mess with me.’ But I’m okay. I feel safe now…I can focus on love, compassion, openness, and yes, vulnerability.”

Here’s what the 32-year-old Fifty Shades of Grey and "The Fall" actor had to share with the mag:
On his interest in playing Christian Grey: “[It had to do with] an attraction and understanding I have for people that are broken in some way. Not that I’m some broken bird, but there’s a massive element of me that’s fractured from losing my mother so young, and I’m drawn to characters who are wounded.”
On staying away from the Internet after his casting news was announced: “I think my publicist said, ‘Yeah, mostly good.’ [I’m] very aware of opinion regarding the film, whether it be positive or negative. It is, by its nature, an easy target.”
On his biggest fear: “I almost don’t want to put this out there into the ether, but I fear I’ll get murdered, like John Lennon, by one of those mad fans at the premiere. Because a lot of people are very angry that I’m playing this character. And I’m a father now, and a husband. I don’t want to die yet.”
On joking about his biggest fear: “And when I do get murdered, people will say, ‘God, isn’t it haunting how he did that interview in Details magazine and predicted his own death on the red carpet?’”

Se "Downton Abbey" diventa più soap
"I tempi cambiano a «Downton Abbey»: il processo di democratizzazione avanza, la crisi economica erode il patrimonio ereditato da Lord Grantham, il vento del socialismo lambisce la tenuta. I tempi cambiano anche per la collocazione nel palinsesto: stretto su Rete4 tra «Centovetrine» e «Vento di passioni», la celebre serie inglese sembra accentuare il lato soap, che già è robusto di suo (giovedì, ore 21.20). Eppure è sempre un piacere seguirla: sarà per il capovolgimento attraverso cui la servitù sembra ancora più restia ai cambiamenti del padronato, sarà per quel perfezionismo che manca alla nostra fiction (la serie è un affresco d'epoca maniacalmente curato in ogni minimo dettaglio, dalla rappresentazione del cibo, agli abiti, alla postura che gli attori devono mantenere in scena), sarà per le dinamiche sociali fra «servo» e «padrone», secondo una consolidata tradizione drammaturgica inglese, sarà perché il mondo, come sostiene il maggiordomo Charles Carson, «gira attorno a una tavola ben apparecchiata», sta di fatto che la creatura di Julian Fellowes (il cui titolo nobiliare completo è Barone Fellowes di West Stafford), conservatore, di dichiarate simpatie monarchiche, è il racconto di un lento naufragio, che ha preso le mosse da quello vero del Titanic. A «Downton» il cambiamento fa paura: dai piccoli dettagli della vita quotidiana (ogni volta, tocca a Lady Violet esprimere il disgusto per il nuovo) ai grandi ideali, tutto è intriso di nostalgia per un tempo che si percepisce come irrimediabilmente finito, per uno stile di vita che è stato sacrificato sull'altare del «progresso» sociale. Come ogni soap che si rispetti (in questo caso ci troviamo di fronte a una soap «culturale»), «Downton Abbey» procede per colpi di scena emotivi, in un terreno dove soldi e sesso (molto mascherato), intesi come dinamiche di potere, rappresentano motori importanti per innescare gli snodi del racconto". Brunswick, N.J., psychiatry professor Anthony Tobia is teaching third
and fourth-year medical students in the hospital’s psychiatric rotation
about psychiatric disorders through the hit TV show’s eccentric
characters — an exercise dubbed “Psy-feld,” NJ.com reports. The students are required to watch two repeat episodes of
the show a week on TBS and come to class ready to discuss the
psychopathology “demonstrated” in each one. As Tobia told NJ.com,
“When you get these friends together the dynamic is such that it literally creates a plot: Jerry’s obsessive compulsive traits combined with Kramer’s schizoid traits, with Elaine’s inability to forge meaningful relationships and with George being egocentric.”

Parte l’8 gennaio in anteprima assoluta su Mya “Hemlock Grove”, la serie sui licantropi targata Netflix firmata dal mago del genere horror Eli Roth (già dietro le quinte di “Hostel” con Tarantino). L’appuntamento è per ogni giovedì in prima serata. Nella fittizia cittadina del titolo viene trovata una ragazza del liceo parzialmente smembrata nei pressi dell'acciaieria dismessa di proprietà della famiglia Godfrey. Le indagini dello sceriffo locale fanno emergere dettagli che fanno sospettare che la ragazza possa essere stata uccisa da un animale. Nella cerchia dei sospettati finiscono presto Roman (Bill Skarsgard), problematico rampollo della famiglia Godfrey che inizia ad indagare per conto suo, e Peter Rumancek (Landon Liboiron), un giovane e misterioso zingaro da poco trasferitosi nella cittadina, che viene accusato da una ragazzina del luogo di essere un licantropo…Nel cast spicca il volto di Famke Janssen (“Nip/Tuck”, “X-Men”) nei panni della matriarca di casa Godfrey. Roth firma da produttore esecutivo. La serie che si basa sul romanzo omonimo di Brian McGreevy è stata confermata da poco per la terza stagione e vanta il record di essere stato il primo titolo originale della storia di Netflix ad essere candidato agli Emmy Awards. Le musiche sono di Nathan Barr, compositore di “True Blood”, serie che in qualche modo può ricordare la commistione di creature sovrannaturali con gli umani. Le riprese sono avvenute nell’Ontario canadese (Hemlock Grove è stata ambientata a Port Perry). Il telefilm è stato lanciato con l’efficace claim “Even demons have demons”. “Variety” ha così commentato l’avvento del serial: “è come se qualcuno volesse fare a pezzi i ragazzi di ‘Dawson’s Creek’ e già solo per questo viene da tifare per lui! E’ la consacrazione del fatto che le generazioni attuali convivano con l’orrore che spesso non ha spiegazioni, se ne impossessa e le rende vittime quasi senza che se ne accorgano. ‘Hemlock Grove’ è una soap gotica dove la domanda ‘What are You?’ sostituisce definitivamente il classico ‘Who are You?”.

dell’attore Bill Cosby, accusato di vari stupri, intitolata “Not
the Cosbys XXX: Puddin' My D*ck Where It Don't Belong”, diretta da Will
Ryder e interpretata dalla pornostar Misty Stone. Uscirà su dvd il 21
gennaio. Dichiara
il regista: «E’ scioccante quando qualcuno tanto amato come Bill Cosby
finisce nell’occhio del ciclone con accuse così orrende. Abbiamo sentito
la necessità di alleggerire un po’ la situazione. Lo ringraziamo per
averci dato lo spunto e speriamo vivamente che sia innocente, anche se,
quando c’è molto fumo, in genere, da qualche parte, c’è anche il fuoco. I
suoi fan ameranno il nostro film». Quelle che lo accusano di stupro forse un pò meno.
