GOSSIP - Kelly Rowan di "The OC", come Salma Hayek, si fa impalmare da un miliardario e va all'altare!
TORONTO (CP) - Kelly Rowan may have played a wealthy wife on the American teen soap "The O.C." but the role was nothing compared to the life she could soon be living as the spouse of Canadian billionaire David Thomson, head of what is estimated to be the 10th richest family in the world. Rowan and Thomson are engaged to be married and will walk down the aisle later this year, Rowan's publicist, Jennifer Plante, said Wednesday from New York. Rowan was not available for further comment. Thomson, 50, is the son of the late Ken Thomson and chairman of the Thomson Corp. The Thomson family's holding company, Woodbridge Corp., is a minority shareholder of the Globe and Mail. Among the family's estimated US$20 billion in assets is the recently acquired Reuters news agency. He and Rowan, 41, an Ottawa native, met last year and she reportedly moved into his Toronto estate in recent weeks. "Their family and friends couldn't be happier for them," a source close to the couple told People magazine, adding: "She's really happy". Rowan portrayed the well-heeled Kirsten Cohen on the Fox prime-time soap "The O.C." for more than three years. The series ended in February. Thomson is the father of three children - two teenaged girls from his first marriage, and an infant son from his second union. Maclean's magazine reported last year that Thomson stunned his second wife, Laurie Ludwick, by serving her divorce papers last year just hours after she'd checked out of the hospital where she'd given birth. The baby, Benjamin, is Thomson Corp.'s designated heir. The blond and lanky Thomson is reclusive, seldom granting interviews to the media and maintaining a low public profile. In a rare interview given to James FitzGerald, who wrote a book in 1994 about Upper Canada College, the elite Toronto private school they both attended, Thomson was scornful of the business world. "When you try to live a more balanced life, traditional businessmen think that you are not a real man. But who is not the real man? You are telling me? You have not taken a weekend with your wife, you have no spare time that you use constructively, you do not have any hobbies, you do not know how to spell Mozart. And here you are telling me that I am weak?" he says in "Old Boys: The Powerful Legacy of Upper Canada College". Rowan is scheduled to shoot a TV movie this week on Lake Simcoe, north of Toronto. In an interview in January, Rowan said she was craving a break from the tough pace of making a TV show and working on other projects, including the made-for-TV film about polygamy, "In God's Country," that aired on CTV in the winter. "They were projects that I really wanted to do and so it was worth it, but now I'm a little tired. I might take a vacation," she said. "I might take at least a couple weeks off ... Maybe I'll do a couple of projects and then take some time for travelling, just take some time for me."
