Director Ava DuVernay is already preparing to head into the world of comic books with an adaptation of the DC Comics property New Gods, and things must be going well on the project in development because she just struck a deal to adapt another title from DC Comics. HBO Max has ordered a pilot directed and executive produced by Ava DuVernay that will adapt the comic book DMZ, originally created by writer Brian Wood and artist Riccardo Burchielli. The high concept story imagines a second Civil War splitting the United States, which unfortunately doesn’t sound as much like a sci-fi plot as it used to. And that’s probably why HBO Max chose to announce it today. Deadline has word on the DMZ TV series that would be available on HBO Max, but that’s only if the forthcoming streaming services like what they see from the pilot episode. Ryan Murphy has amassed a roster of names befitting the title of his latest Netflix project, Hollywood. In addition to those cast members previously announced — Darren Criss (American Crime Story) as Raymond, David Corenswet (The Politician) as Jack, Jeremy Pope as Archie and Patti LuPone (Pose) as Avis — the following have also been confirmed as series regulars: Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) as talent agent Henry Willson, Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story) as Ernie, Joe Mantello (The Normal Heart) as Dick, Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men) as Ellen Kincaid, Samara Weaving (SMILF) as Claire, Maude Apatow (Euphoria) as Henrietta, Jake Picking (Chasing Life) as Rock Hudson and Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) as Camille.
Described by Murphy as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown,” the period drama will cover “several narratives from 1940s Hollywood.” And Hollywood is just one of several Murphy projects currently in the works at Netflix. His Ben Platt-led dark comedy The Politician dropped today; he recently revealed that he cast Ewan McGregor to play iconic fashion designer Halston in a yet-untitled series; and Ratched, a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel starring Sarah Paulson as Nurse Ratched, has already received a two-season order. He’s also bringing us filmed versions of recent Broadway hits The Boys in the Band and The Prom — the latter of which boasts a cast that includes Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Ariana Grande.

Al via dal 4 ottobre in esclusiva su Sky “1994”, l’ultimo capitolo della trilogia Sky Original prodotta da Wildside, parte di Fremantle, che racconta gli anni che hanno cambiato il Paese a cavallo fra Prima e Seconda Repubblica. Gli otto episodi della serie sono ambientati in quello che è un anno cruciale della nostra storia recente, raccontato attraverso gli occhi e le storie di persone comuni, la cui vita si intreccia con quelle dei protagonisti del terremoto politico, civile e di costume che segnò la prima metà degli Anni ’90. Nella serie, diretta da Giuseppe Gagliardi e da Claudio Noce, ritroviamo il cast di protagonisti Stefano Accorsi, Guido Caprino, Miriam Leone, insieme ad Antonio Gerardi, Giovanni Ludeno e Paolo Pierobon. “1994” è in onda dal 4 ottobre ogni venerdì alle 21.15 su Sky Atlantic e in simulcast su Sky Cinema Uno. Nel 1994 l’Italia cambia per sempre: è l’anno della restaurazione. Lo sa bene Leonardo Notte (Stefano Accorsi): ha capito che conquistare il potere è difficile, ma mantenerlo è davvero una missione impossibile. Così come sembra impossibile per Pietro Bosco (Guido Caprino) riuscire a cambiare: anche ora che ha un ufficio al Viminale, non riesce ad abbandonare i suoi vecchi difetti, né riesce a dimenticare l’unica donna che ha davvero amato. Veronica Castello (Miriam Leone) deve infatti decidere chi sarà il suo compagno di vita, ma nel frattempo capisce che non vuole più essere solo la donna di uomini potenti e inizia così a giocare in prima persona la partita per il potere, diventando una parlamentare. Ritroveremo anche il PM di Mani Pulite Antonio Di Pietro (Antonio Gerardi), che continua la sua battaglia, Silvio Berlusconi interpretato da Paolo Pierobon e Dario Scaglia (Giovanni Ludeno). Con loro anche Maurizio Lombardi, già visto in 1992 e 1993 nel ruolo di Paolo Pellegrini, uomo di Berlusconi e neo-onorevole, che vive in adorazione del Cavaliere. "1994" è creata da Alessandro Fabbri, Ludovica Rampoldi e Stefano Sardo. L’idea del progetto è di Stefano Accorsi, che partecipa allo sviluppo creativo della serie. Beta Film è il distributore internazionale.

Christmas can come early for Disney fans who sign up for a Disney+ pre-order now. The forthcoming Disney streaming service is now available for pre-order, with a seven-day free trial beginning with the platform’s launch in November. Disney is offering customers in the U.S. the option to sign up early for a monthly subscription to Disney+. The pre-order is now live for the general public on Disneyplus.com with both monthly and annual subscriptions available for purchase at $6.99 and $69.99, respectively. Those who pre-order now will get a seven-day free trial that starts with the launch of Disney+ in November. However, those subscribers who want to purchase the $12.99 bundle — which includes Disney+, ESPN+, and an ad-supported Hulu subscription — should wait until the launch date on November 12, 2019, Disney said in a press release. All subscription packages will automatically renew, according to Disney, but subscribers have an option to cancel any time before the renewal date. The seven-day free trial will also be available to all new Disney+ subscribers. Disney has been heavily promoting its forthcoming streaming platform, with Disney+ subscription packages offered to select Disney membership holders, D23 attendees, and even for free. Lucky customers in the Netherlands also got a chance to peek an early beta version. Within its first year, Disney+ is set to debut 25 original series and 10 original films including highly anticipated titles like The Mandalorian, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and the live-action Lady and the Tramp movie. The service will be packed with movies and shows from the Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20h Century Fox archives as well. You can see all that and more once Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019

It seems you can’t keep “Shamy” apart: The Big Bang Theory costars Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons are reuniting for the new comedy Carla, which has landed a series order at Fox, our sister site Deadline reports. Bialik, who will executive-produce alongside Parsons, stars as a 39-year-old woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that you can not have everything you want and still be happy. That’s why she spent the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a cat café in Louisville, Ky. Parsons is not slated to have an onscreen role on the show. The multi-cam is based on the BBC sitcom Miranda, which ran for three seasons between 2009 and 2015, and starred creator Miranda Hart and Tom Ellis, among others. Darlene Hunt (The Big C) penned the Fox adaptation, which is slated for fall 2020. Parsons and Bialik, of course, portrayed husband and wife Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler on the long-running CBS hit The Big Bang Theory, which just wrapped up its run this past May.

La rivoluzione femminile in Africa occidentale passa anche dalle serie tv. Dal Senegal alla Nigeria sono sempre di più le produzioni che vedono protagoniste donne emancipate, indipendenti e libere di affrontare tematiche vietate fino ad oggi come la sessualità femminile. Storie alla Sex and the City in salsa africana, capaci di ribaltare dinamiche secolari di società a maggioranza musulmana fondate sul patriarcato. Tra tradimenti e colpi di fulmine c'è spazio anche per temi profondi e delicati, dato che, in questa zona d'Africa, le donne sono spesso vittime indifese. Dalle violenze sessuali, alla poligamia, agli abusi domestici. Situazioni frequenti per milioni di donne costrette a subire la supremazia di genere a volte tutelata anche dalle leggi dello Stato. Un movimento che sta incollando agli schermi di w e smartphone, per chi assiste su YouTube, milioni di adolescenti africane e che sta destabilizzando le autorità statali garanti del pubblico decoro. In Senegal, uno dei Paesi più progressivi dell'Africa occidentale, il Consiglio Nazionale che regola le trasmissioni televisive (CNRA), ha minacciato di oscurare la diffusione della serie Maitresse d'un homme marié (L'amante di un uomo sposato), i cui contenuti sono ritenuti «una minaccia alla preservazione della cultura e dell'identità nazionale». La serie, in onda due volte a settimana sia su Youtube che sul canale senegalese privato 2STV, è stata scritta da una ex giornalista televisiva, Kalista Sy, e racconta le vicende sentimentali di quattro donne che lavorano in un'impresa edilizia alle porte della capitale Dakar. La protagonista del feuilleton, Marème Dial, intraprende una relazione extra coniugale con Cheikh, un uomo sposato con Lalla, archetipo della sposa tradizionale. «Ero stanca di vedere personaggi femminili ideati da uomini o stranieri - ha detto l'autrice Kalista Sy in un'intervista al New York Times - in Senegal è arrivato il momento di mostrare le donne per quello che sono senza nascondere pregi e difetti». Anche in Ghana, nella fiorente industria cinematografica di Gollywood, grazie all'entrata in scena di numerose registe donne, l'immagine femminile è stata ribaltata. Non più personaggi deboli,o passivi, ma pieni di forza ed autonomia. E il caso di Scorned (Respinta), uno dei film più emblematici di questa rivoluzione culturale, in cui una casalinga tradita, si vendica del marito fino a diventare un'eroina. In Nigeria, la più sviluppata industria cinematografica del Continente e seconda al mondo per numero di film prodotti, stanno emergendo sempre più serie e film in cui si affronta anche il tema dell'omosessualità femminile, pratica condannata per legge nellamaggior parte degli Stati africani di fede musulmana. Anche Netflix, il gigante americano dello streaming online, arrivato in Africa solo nel 2016 e che, con grande difficoltà sta provando a recuperare il terreno perso, ha deciso di puntare su produzioni al femminile.

Patty Jenkins is joining Netflix’s high-profile crowd of creators. The director of Wonder Woman and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix to produce new TV series for the streaming service. It will be her latest foray into television after directing this year’s TNT limited series I Am The Night. Variety broke the news that Jenkins has signed a multi-year overall TV deal with Netflix that is valued at around $10 million over three years. Under the Patty Jenkins Netflix deal, the director-writer-producer will produce new TV series for the streaming service. “We’re thrilled to welcome Patty Jenkins to Netflix,” said Channing Dungey, vice president of original series at Netflix. “Her trailblazing work has pushed boundaries and she confidently tells stories that leave an unforgettable mark. We look forward to fostering her many ideas and helping them come to life,”. “I’m so excited to embark on a great journey of making the new world of television with a company and group of people I admire as much as Ted, Cindy, Channing, Peter and the team at Netflix,” Jenkins added. “I look forward to digging in to some great work together soon.”
It’s unclear what kind of TV series Jenkins will be producing, and whether they will be original works or adaptations. But Jenkins signing on with the streaming giant is just another marker of her Hollywood success, which had already been cemented when she took the title of highest-paid female director in the industry. Netflix has been fast accumulating high-profile talent in incredibly expensive deals that often exceed seven figures. I’m a little surprised that Jenkins is limiting herself to producing TV for the service, but perhaps she is reserving feature filmmaking for the big screen. Though Jenkins is best known for her acclaimed feature directing and writing debut Monster, she has frequently worked in TV before, directing episodes of Arrested Development, Entourage, and The Killing, and most recently executive producing and directing I Am the Night, which reunited her with Wonder Woman star Chris Pine.

Ennesima serie italiana tratta da un libro
Spietato come la lotta per la supremazia delle rotte della merce più distribuita al mondo, la cocaina. Sconvolgente, come i sistemi criminali e familiari diversi tra loro ma ugualmente assetati di potere. Ecco il teaser trailer di ZeroZeroZero, la serie originale Sky Studios diretta da Stefano Sollima e tratta dall’omonimo libro di Roberto Saviano, edito in Italia da Feltrinelli. Già dalle prime immagini rilasciate oggi, emerge in tutta la sua potenza il quadro raccontato da ZeroZeroZero, una produzione Cattleya - parte di ITV Studios - e Bartlebyfilm per Sky Studios, CANAL+ e Amazon Prime Video. Nel cast internazionale della serie, in otto episodi, ci sono Andrea Riseborough, Dane DeHaan, Gabriel Byrne, Giuseppe De Domenico, Adriano Chiaramida, Harold Torres, Tcheky Karyo e Francesco Colella. La serie sarà in anteprima mondiale come Evento Speciale fuori concorso alla 76ª Mostra internazionale d'arte cinematografica di Venezia il prossimo 5 settembre.
