Gina Rodriguez looks totally badass and beautiful on the new September 2016 cover of Latina magazine. Here’s what the 32-year-old Jane the Virgin star had to share with the mag:
On Latinas in Hollywood: “We are definitely helping one another. One thing that I love about Jewish culture is that anthill effect. Every ant brings food to the anthill and everybody eats. Sadly our culture has been living the crab-in-the-barrel effect. We’re so afraid there isn’t enough room for all of us that we fight to get to the top. We don’t need to do that. There’s room for all of us. We’re stronger in numbers. As Latinos, we put Barack [Obama] in office. We could do the same in making sure that Donald Trump doesn’t get in office. We are that strong.”
On shaving her head for a role: “I think it all plays into the idea of being your own hero and not feeling like you have to live up to other people’s expectations. I am not my beauty. Who I am is not my f-cking hair, and to be an actor is to transform. To represent a community is to commit, to give my entire all. So if I’m going to represent Latinos in the industry and in art, if I’m going to represent my little cousins in Chicago, they’re going to know that I went full out. Who are we afraid of? What are we afraid of? The worst thing that can happen is we die. Anything else you can handle.”

What is the tone of the relationship between Leslie Thompkins and James Gordon after everything they went through?
I think Leslie’s been left a little rattled after her last experience with Barbara Kean [played by Erin Richards]. But she’s a very a strong person and they are both survivors. They are trying to deal with the hand they were dealt. He’s in a bit of a dark spot, so I think there’s going to be a little bit of a push/pull into that world of darkness this season as they see if they can come out and survive. He’s going to be going through quite a lot, so we’ll see if they’re able to survive it – and where his priorities lie. I would guess that it’s going to be very complicated.

Are you the light pulling Gordon away from the darkness?
I don’t know if light is the right word. She’s supportive, but she’s also got her own things that she’s grappling with. The Gotham world is a difficult world!

Would you agree that there’s a darker tone to the show this year?
Essentially, I think every character is going to be tested a lot this season. There’s a lot more darkness everywhere. I think a lot of the characters are going to be deciding which side they’re on.

Does this mean there will be lots of internal battles as well as physical battles?
There’s a great film noir saying: ‘Looking into darkness and darkness looking into you.’ I think that’s what everybody’s going to be dealing with this season. Who is able to flirt with that and extricate themselves and not get sucked into the evilness of it? I think that every character is going to have that a little bit this year.
Leslie Thompkins is one of the strongest female characters in the GCPD. What is that like to play?
It’s fantastic. It’s really great. I love how smart the show is written. I like that it pushes the boundaries and that it goes into the dark places.
How would you describe Leslie’s role in the show?
Well, the season one storyline for my character was very simple – I was brought into the show to be a love interest for Gordon, so they planted that seed very early. It developed into quite an interesting relationship where they were supportive of each other, and he had a little bit of light in a very dark world. She brought a little bit of humour to him and a bit of lightness, and then they became very good partners and very good comrades. She then started working at the Gotham City Police Department, which melded their worlds together a little bit more, so we’ll see where that goes from here.

In the comic, Leslie creates her own medical clinic. Will we see any of that in Gotham?
Eventually, I think so. I’m not really sure what their plan is with the whole arc for this character, but she does form other relationships apart from just the Jim and Leslie relationship.
How much do you enjoy the action scenes?
I like them. I think they’re fun. I don’t like to get hurt, but it can be fun.

Are you yourself a comic fan? As well as this role, you voiced Gideon in The Flash…
I am a fan in the sense that I grew up with a brother who read a lot of the comics, so they were always around the house. I do love the genre, but I haven’t read the Batman comics, so if you asked me about rare characters, I wouldn’t know them.

How much do you enjoy filming in New York?
It’s great, especially in the summer months. When it gets into the winter, it’s not so great. The writers forget about the cold of New York because they live in LA. They write all these exterior night scenes where we’re out there all night long, freezing our butts off. The look of New York is very Gotham – and they do such a great job of using all the really great buildings and gritty locations for the show. It’s great.

NEWS - Calamity Cassidy! L'attrice sarà in tutti i serial super-eroici CW (10 foto per capirne il motivo)

News tratta da "TvLine"
Katie Cassidy is the latest Berlantiverse actor to ink one of those cool new deals, by which she is now a series regular across multiple CW superhero shows — namely The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and her original stomping grounds, Arrow (on which she will appear in the Season 5 premiere). Wentworth Miller, who transitioned from The Flash to Legends (for a one-season stint), was the first actor to sign such a grounbreaking pact; Arrow vet John Barrowman followed, earlier last month. Both Miller and Barrowman, it has since been announced, will play key roles in Season 2 of Legends, as Captain Cold, Malcolm Merlyn, along with Reverse-Flash (played by The Flash‘s Matt Letscher) and Damien Darhk (Arrow‘s Neal McDonough), form the Legion of Doom. Shortly after Cassidy’s Laurel Lance was killed off of Arrow this past spring, Cassidy popped up on sister series The Flash, as Miss Lance’s Earth-Two doppelganger, the minxy metahuman Black Siren.

NEWS - Il nuovo "Star Trek" tv ("Discovery") sarà come un...romanzo!

News tratta da Collider.com
At their Comic-Con panel, executive producer Bryan Fuller announced that CBS’ new Star Trek series is titled Star Trek: Discovery. The title will keep with the trend that the show is named after the signature ship. In this case, it’s the USS Discovery, designation U.S.S. Discovery (NCC-1031). While unfortunately that means this show’s acronym is STD, we’ll all have to learn to get over that. Some ointment should help. Unfortunately, details on the show were scarce beyond the title. We still don’t know what Discovery is about, although Fuller confirmed to the crowd that unlike past, episodic Trek series, this new one would be more “like a novel,” which suits its streaming platform, CBS All Access. It should be interesting to see Trek put into a longform storytelling mode, especially if Fuller has a story worth telling in that format. It seems like Fuller really gets Trek, and I’m very curious to see how he can bring the uplift the show requires with the conflict that’s heavy enough to demand a season-long story. Fans were also treated to a look at the Discovery leaving spaceport, and it’s a fine looking ship. The design is pretty different than the other major ships we’ve seen. Unfortunately, its design doesn’t really tell us much about when this new Star Trek is taking place. It doesn’t looks ancient or anything, but if you told me that it’s from the same era as The Original Series, I could buy that. I could just as easily see it as a post-Voyager ship. So unfortunately, there are no clues there. Thankfully, Star Trek Discovery arrives in January 2017, so hopefully we’ll find out more about the show in the near future.

Although Joss Whedon’s acclaimed show Buffy the Vampire Slayer lasted for seven seasons, his follow-up — a space western called Firefly — was canceled after barely one. Luckily for fans, the series has lived on in other media, first in the 2005 sequel film Serenity and then in various Dark Horse comic series.
“I think that it’s the characters and their relationships first and foremost that keeps people coming back for more, followed pretty closely by the richness of the setting and the backstory,” comic writer and iZombie co-creator Chris Roberson tells EW. “There’s just so much to explore.”
Roberson is now getting his own chance to explore the world of Serenity with a new comic from Dark Horse, Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse, illustrated by Georges Jeanty. Jeanty illustrated the previous Serenity comic, Leaves on the Wind, and No Power in the ‘Verse picks up about a year and a half after the conclusion of that storyline.
“The characters have been busy in the meantime,” Roberson teases. “They’re just wrapping up a job when they get a call from an old friend who is in desperate need of their help, and things get complicated pretty quickly.”
The title of the series harks back to one of River’s (Summer Glau) most famous quotes from the original series, that “no power in the ‘verse can stop me.” Roberson says that the reference is no accident, and River (now the pilot of Serenity after Wash’s death in the film) will play a big part in the new series.
“River plays a pretty central role in this story, in more ways than one,” Roberson says. “She’s really come into her own as the pilot of Serenity, for one thing, but now that Zoe’s daughter Emma is toddling around on her own by this point, River is always on hand to help look after her as well. But the Alliance is still hunting for River, which is going to continue to put the rest of the crew in the crosshairs.”
Above and below, check out the cover for the first issue of No Power in the ‘Verse (from a total of six) and an interior page featuring River and Zoe playing with little Emma in Serenity’s recognizable cargo hold. The issue goes on sale Oct. 26.
